Starting Sunday 23rd Feb, BBC1, 9 pm.

It was a bit mundane, except for poor old Ted. I liked the bit in the church, I thought it was good seeing Celia & Alan discussing their differences and otherwise.

Harrison, he’s such a rascal, an old head on young shoulders! smile

Well, I really enjoyed it. I love the characters, especially Caroline and Gillian. It made me chuckle and it was lighthearted, just right for a Sunday evening when we’re looking at the chaos developing around us.

BlueBelle Sun 15-Mar-20 22:38:37

Well that fizzled out didn’t it
Think it’s had it’s day what a shame I was so looking forward to it too nothing to get your teeth in at all

janeainsworth Sun 15-Mar-20 22:27:59

I’ll have to watch it now, Gilly if only out of curiosity grin

Lisagran Sun 15-Mar-20 22:26:24

That was rubbish! What a disappointment

gillybob Sun 15-Mar-20 22:25:08

You didn’t miss anything janeA it was very poor .

Juliet27 Sun 15-Mar-20 22:24:12

Agreed - disappointing and I had trouble hearing much of what Caroline said.

janeainsworth Sun 15-Mar-20 22:23:01

Oh no! Just realised I forgot to watch it blush

gillybob Sun 15-Mar-20 22:17:20

Well that was a waste of an hour. It was as though they had to tie it all up but then wasted half the program on Alan and Celia sitting in the church . Thoroughly disappointing .

Calendargirl Sun 15-Mar-20 22:13:02

No one seemed to notice that Harrison had stolen a car, they just assumed he and Ted had taken the train.

Yes, it seemed they were trying to tie all loose ends up.

Another series, or is that it?

Pittcity Sun 15-Mar-20 22:08:15

What a hurried and unsatisfactory ending....

Eloethan Wed 11-Mar-20 16:21:50

I saw that film - The Mother. It was very good.

Greeneyedgirl Wed 11-Mar-20 14:21:16

A film released in 2003 entitled "The Mother" starred Anne Reid, which I have read about, but not seen.
You may recall it but if you don't, and don't want what you learn to pop into your mind every time you see Celia in Last Tango, stop reading now smile
In the film (she was apparently 68 at the time), she played an ageing widow and embarked on a torrid relationship with her daughter's much younger lover...........Daniel Craig.
She has gone up quite a lot in my estimation since I found this out grin

Jane10 Wed 11-Mar-20 06:33:19

Of course!

SueDonim Tue 10-Mar-20 20:41:42

Ooh, Rupert Graves! :lies down with damp flannel on forehead: grin

janeainsworth Tue 10-Mar-20 19:22:22

Oh yes thank you Lemon and Oldgimmer it's all coming back to me nowgrin

oldgimmer1 Tue 10-Mar-20 18:59:01

Yes, Gary was Alan's son by a fling he had whilst married to Gillian's mother. He was very high+profile, wealthy and, I think, owner of Huddersfield Town FC.

He was played by Rupert Graves. phwoarr.

Callistemon Tue 10-Mar-20 17:46:16

Only one more, I think, lemongrove

lemongrove Tue 10-Mar-20 17:11:45

Am sure that Caroline didn’t speak in the same little voice in the other series too, yes, she had a light voice but not like a little girl.
Wasn’t Gary the son of Alan by a different mother?
I thought the episode with the giraffe long drawn out and boring.
I expect I shall watch it to the end, but not watch any other new series, should one be made.

Didolizzy Tue 10-Mar-20 17:03:59

Love this series and I think Derek Jacobi is brilliant!

Jane10 Tue 10-Mar-20 16:58:30

I'm glad you asked janeainsworth. I can't picture him either!

janeainsworth Tue 10-Mar-20 16:57:02

Please could someone remind me who Gary is confusedblushgrin

Callistemon Tue 10-Mar-20 15:05:12

I'd forgotten Gary

How could I forget him? shock

Yes, it has lost its way, I think, that quirky freshness that was so appealing. All rather tired now.

oldgimmer1 Tue 10-Mar-20 15:00:01

I can't imagine silly-voiced Caroline turning around a sink school.

And what happened to Gary? (I have an unseemly crush on Rupert Graves). blush
.

Greeneyedgirl Tue 10-Mar-20 11:40:14

Sadly I think the current series has lost the plot.
Too many silly story lines, trying too hard, and more like a comedy, whereas before it was quirky but could be related to as part of real life, with humour and pathos.
I wouldn't watch another series, but I do think Sarah Lancashire is a fine actress.
