It’s just started and I’m liking it straightaway! Stellar cast. Imelda Staunton (love her). Francesca Anuns.

The series follows three adult siblings – Helen, Jake and Natalie – whose lives are thrown into disarray when their recently widowed mum Vivien declares she’s fallen for a new man, retired GP Mark.

As Vivien nears her 70th birthday, her children grow suspicious when Mark begins to shift her priorities away from her family.

Gorgeous location see the photo!

I am always suspicious of someone who encourages the patient to make sure they drink their drink up. Plenty of odd people with dark motifs. Apparently it builds with every episode as you would expect. I will keep watching.

t is the attitude of the adult children which fascinates me; 'how dare their mother have a relationship and intimate their father was no angel'.
Looks promising. Just disappointed to discover Francesca Annis is the same age as me, so why don't I look like that?

Urmstongran Tue 25-Feb-20 09:33:55

Yes, notice the tablet to ‘help’? ‘It’s up to you whether Or not to take it’ to put her off her guard? And marriage this early on - to cash in on her estate? Red flags lady!

storynanny Tue 25-Feb-20 10:10:36

I think it’s too predictable that the doc is the baddie. Nosy neighbour gave widow cheese straws, maybe she is poisoning her slowly? Maybe she was the late husbands lover?
I think henpecked son in law is dodgy,
No idea who is in the body bag or the time scale of what happened when.

Welshwife Tue 25-Feb-20 10:23:53

I wonder how she got the food stain off the new dressing gown she tried on - I found that all very creepy!

travelsafar Tue 25-Feb-20 10:25:57

Loving this so far, lots of 'red herrings' for us all to discuss and digest like 'Miss Marple' until the end!!! lol. smile

tanith Tue 25-Feb-20 10:28:49

I was wondering that Welshwife at first I thought the doc had killed the neighbour when he’d realised she was spying but she was alive talking to the police after the event. I hope it doesn’t go down hill like the David Tennant one did.

Urmstongran Tue 25-Feb-20 10:32:52

^ I thought Francesca Annis came across as a bit doddery, even before her collapse^

Surely not Calendargirl? The episode opened with her jogging along the beach in her Lycra. She looked amazing!

Witzend Tue 25-Feb-20 10:38:42

Sounds good! Thanks for posting - I hardly ever know what’s coming up. Will find it on catch-up.

vegansrock Tue 25-Feb-20 10:38:57

It was filmed near Eastbourne on the Sussex coast. Love the houses and location.

Smileless2012 Tue 25-Feb-20 10:46:49

It's not fair is it eazybeegrin. I'm looking forward to tonight's episodesmile.

Calendargirl Tue 25-Feb-20 10:59:24

Yes Urmstongran,I agree with you about the jogging and looking good then. She just seemed to me to come across as, well, doddery, later on. I think it’s because I have seen her playing older type roles lately, i.e. Homefires. She is meant to be coming up for 70 in this, not sure how old she is in RL.
But yes, she is still a glamorous and elegant lady.
Perhaps doddery is not the right word- hesitant, tremulous, unsure of herself- all features of the role she’s playing?

granfromafar Tue 25-Feb-20 11:13:14

Francesca Annis is 74 and looking good in my opinion. Like Calendargirl , it reminded me of Gold Digger.

Dinahmo Tue 25-Feb-20 15:03:56

I hadn't seen the cast list and was surprised to see Francesca Annis. She's 74 and is wearing her age well. Didn't think her character was doddery.

Stephen Rea is 73. Looks as though he dyes his hair.

I think it's great that there are now several parts for actresses in their late 60's and seventies.

katie1 Tue 25-Feb-20 16:26:31

Storynanny, I wondered if the neighbour was the late husband's mistress? Or does she have a connection to the retired surgeon? I am enjoying it very much.

storynanny Tue 25-Feb-20 16:48:47

Ah yes I hadn’t thought about that, maybe the online doc and nosy neighbour have conspired to get her money
I’ll look for clues about that tonight. I’ve made a list of characters and am going to make notes tonight!

Callistemon Tue 25-Feb-20 16:59:36

I think Rea is playing a retired GP; "this little tablet will help you to relax" hmm
Creepy
I think Mary will be the culprit - but I'm not sure what the crime is yet.

Mrst1405 Tue 25-Feb-20 17:16:37

I really enjoyed it. I was torn between between that and Last Tango. I know the Halifax area well and always enjoy the scenery. By all accounts ,I chose the right one.

bikergran Tue 25-Feb-20 17:17:52

Not going to read the thread as recorded it, will record rest of it. Sounds intriguing.

Callistemon Tue 25-Feb-20 17:28:12

It's on for 4 night running, bikergran

bikergran Tue 25-Feb-20 20:49:15

Thanks...just caught up with episode 1 going to watch 2 very shortly..enjoyed the first episode.

suziewoozie Tue 25-Feb-20 22:02:45

Oh come on - are we supposed to take this seriously? Did enjoy the theft of the viagra though and the second therapy session - that was comedy gold although not supposed to be I expect. Love the house even more

Callistemon Tue 25-Feb-20 22:09:56

Oh, it was viagra, was it.

They bring a new meaning to dysfunctional family.

suziewoozie Tue 25-Feb-20 22:19:23

It’s a load of tosh with every lazy cliche going. The mother is a complete idiot who needs a good shake. The house is lovely

Nannylovesshopping Tue 25-Feb-20 22:21:01

?I thought Mary was going to take the viagra herself, not knowing what it was, well she likes to wear her clothes and use her perfume........
