Seeing as we're all staying in a little lot more, we'd imagine the telly is getting a fair amount of attention. If you want to chat about whatever you're watching while it's on (or the next day) please do check our Telly forum topic and join in if there's already a conversation running. If not, why not start one? There's almost certainly someone else on here who's watching alongside you and would love the opportunity to dissect the plot/suggest whodunnit/debate actor's suitability to role/just want to say they love or hate it. grin

Callistemon I think it is quite well done but do agree that it looks like it's going to be depressing. I'll watch the second episode and see if I'm interested enough to continue.

Kate1949 We don't have access to My Beautiful Friend as we don't have Sky. Has anyone read the book as well as seen the TV series and, if so, which is more engaging?

I've come to the conclusion I prefer the series that are not too long. The ones that go on for ever and ever I tend to lose interest in.

We watched The Luminaries on BBC1.
Dark, confusing and depressing.
Not at all what we need at the moment.

I have read historical fiction about the gold rush in New Zealand and the arrival of Europeans there and everything I have read is so much better than this.

Thank you so much to whoever suggested This is Us on Amazon Prime. I'm loving it.

Kate1949 Sun 21-Jun-20 10:06:03

We are so glad they've done another series of My Beautiful Friend. It's compelling.

Dancinjay

The solstice on-line. Much more interesting than the constant repeats - lol

Doesn’t this happen every year too? gringrin

Kalu Sun 21-Jun-20 09:09:31

We are watching Downton Abbey second time around too and enjoying the escape to another era.

Started watching a few episodes of The Bench but have given up as it was becoming pretty boring.

Watching two very different series from the beginning,
Downton Abbey and The Sopranos.?

NanKate Sat 20-Jun-20 17:02:47

They are repeating Strike by Robert Galbraith/JKR. I am enjoying it as much the second time around. It is on BBC IPlayer.

Jane43 Sat 20-Jun-20 12:08:21

Westendgirl is this the second series of My Brilliant Friend? I watched the first series which was very good. If it is the second series what channel is it on please?

Not about tonight's TV but I'm watching James Martin's Saturday Morning programme and was completely engrossed in Dr. Annie Gray's anecdotes from her book, 'Victory in the Kitchen' about Churchill's wartime cook, Georgina Landemare.

I could have listened for hours. This is definitely a 'must have' to put on my Amazon Wish List. I'm tempted to buy the hardback rather than add it to my ever growing list on my Kindle.

Fascinating stuff!

Watched a Netflix series last night, Unorthodox, about a young woman who wants to break away from Orthodox Jewish life in New York. Very enjoyable and worth watching.

Callistemon Fri 19-Jun-20 23:32:51

Supercharged Otters with Charlie Hamilton James.
Fascinating.

I loved ‘This is Us’ but be prepared with plenty of tissues, some sad tears and some happy ones - every episode! Daughter and I watch ‘Queer Eye’ and ‘Ru Paul’s Drag Race’ great fun

Mozart’s Magic Flute from Covent Garden.
My favourite opera of all time, bringing back happy memories of seeing it in Salzburg with my parents in my teens and with Paw when we lived in London many years later and also in Prague.

A Greek Odyssey Part 2

westendgirl Fri 19-Jun-20 19:01:03

At the top of my list is My Brilliant Friend . It's the second part. The first one was a joy to see, so I have high hopes.

I loved the books .

travelsafar Fri 19-Jun-20 15:53:17

I have been watching this and it is lovely. Tales of a family with stories of each character and how they all became linked. Something different but gentle with no violence or swearing. It is called 'this is us'

seacliff Thu 18-Jun-20 22:09:54

Netflix The Fundamentals of Caring. I would never have tried (or even found) this, but for a Mumsnet recommendation. A warm and funny road trip film with a difference. Not too long either.

MawB Thu 18-Jun-20 20:09:53

‘Small Island’ from the National Theatre.

Sillymoo Thu 18-Jun-20 19:43:15

Tess of the Durbeville's is starting on bbc4 tonight.

TerriBull Thu 18-Jun-20 19:11:53

As 've found myself unintentionally subscribing to Amazon Prime, I may well give "This is Us" a go as it comes highly recommended, once I've finished watching "Little Fires"

Pittcity Thu 18-Jun-20 17:47:37

Mimi22 I was recommended This is Us and am almost finished series 2. The way it moves from past to present and future is seamless. I'm hooked.

Sparklefizz Thu 18-Jun-20 10:50:06

Re the Salisbury Poisonings, I hope that Sergei and Yulia, wherever they have been relocated, are a bit more careful re security. He can't have been the sharpest of spies to have kept his original name, not to even have a burglar alarm fitted to his house, and to have photos of himself in his house wearing all his Soviet medals.

(I know an alarm would not have stopped Novichok being applied to the front door but still, it's the basic level of security for most people, let alone spies who have been double agents)

Sparklefizz Thu 18-Jun-20 10:46:48

Thanks for that recommendation, Mimi22. I'll take a look.
