In my experience there are no subtitles on catch up TV, which is a glaring omission by BBC and ITV. It is to be hoped they remedy this soon. I too struggle without the subtitles.

I watch Britbox on my tablet.
You can 'cast' to your TV if you have Chromecast, which is a little gadget that plugs in to a HDMI socket on your TV. I think some of the modern smart TVs have a casting facility built in. The casting icon is at the top right of the Britbox screen (the same as it is on I player), and is a little square with curved lines in.
I hope this helps. Maybe other Gransnet members who have Britbox can explain better.

I'm not very technical so there may be answer to my problem that I am unaware of. My T.V. is programmed to have sub titles on at all times as I have a hearing problem and wear a hearing aid. But when I use the catch up feature on any of the channels none of the sub titles appear and I find it difficult to follow the story. That's why I prefer to watch "Walter Presents" programmes as they are all filmed in various European countries and therefore have English sub-titles.

Can anyone help this old duffer please? I’ve just joined Britbox on the free trial but can you watch on your tv Or do you just watch on your iPad? I feel so stupid.

There was a wonderful programme on BBC4 about a man who made all these cine films during the war and for the rest of his life. His family found them in boxes. I need to look up his name....

0ldgimmer; I still remember Miss Inia winning. In fact, she's the only winner I do remember. So beautiful and regal.

Thank you will give it a try, all the cookery programmes are getting a bit irritating as we can't try them with rationed food.

Line of Duty, entertains and shocks. There are several " OMG I didn't see that coming" moments, which are rare these days.

Yes enjoying The English Game. DH a mad footy fan so thought it might be a bit of a yawn, but plenty of content for both of us and very well acted.

We've not watched line of duty! Where is it available? Not bothered with Netflix before but may be turning to that. I did love Killing Eve, Tabboo, the Looming Tower that started off slowly but was fantastic, Summer of Rockets. Have taped Belgravia but somehow dont think it will be as good as Downton Abbey. Just thinking what else I enjoyed as I'm happy rewatching some things. Think I like to be surprised and so many dramas are a bit predictable.

Not watched Line of Duty? .

It's the absolute best thing that's been on in recent years. I've watched it 6 times .

I am truly envious of anybody who has not watched Line of Duty! I am now regretting all the winter binge watching as I have use up a lot of the goodies.

Self made is OK. Worth watching to see the lead characters amazing clothes if nothing else.

From 8- midnight series 6 of The Vikings on Prime.

DH recommends Line of Duty.
I suggested we have subtitles too but he got quite cross (not like him usually) and says he doesn’t want it-even though we both often say “what did they say”.
He also got cross about me suggesting I trim his hair too-he’s beginning to look like Wurzil Gummidge!

I watched the Miss World programme. I wasn't particularly shocked as this is exactly how I remember things being - women as objects.

Something that was omitted though - there was a non-Caucasian winner in 1966 - Miss India.

Why didn't the programme mention it?

We watched the Pilgrimage programme which was very interesting though not sure who some of the celebs were.

Then we watched two episodes of Spooks which has just been put on bbc i-player. I don't think I saw the first few series last time around and had forgotten how good it was.

Contagion was on the TV last night I think. Was tempted to watch it but forgot. Probably just as well - far too frightening.

Tonight I watched the celebrity pilgrimage programme which I enjoyed. The scenery looked beautiful. They're travelling a long way - do you think they all walked the full route? I think there are two more episodes.

I also watched a programme I'd recorded about the 1970 Miss World competition when it was disrupted by feminist protesters.

When I was young, I used to really enjoy Miss World - we, as a family, used to watch it. I remember it being Mum and I who were really keen to see it. My Dad wasn't the sort of man who ogled women or made lewd comments - unlike that revolting Bob Hope. I was 20 in 1970 and by that time my view of Miss World had changed completely and I found it really degrading. I absolutely supported those protesters. It was interesting that the rise of feminism also coincided with protests against apartheid - the fact that there was a white contestant for "South Africa" and a black contestant for "Africa South" highlighted quite clearly a far greater iniquity - the disgusting nature of the apartheid regime and the dishonesty of those who enforced it. The white government thought that including a black contestant as well as a white one would show it in a better light but, for many people, it did exactly the opposite
