Neighbours- how sad am I?

I can remember berating my dear mother for watching “ such rubbish” 30 years ago. Now I’m hooked! I’ve been watching the 10pm showing during the day , and ( for anyone else who knows it) thought there would be some answers as to who didn’t make it. Still, we can only guess ,as people have been known to make miraculous recoveries.

Well, earlier in the week, I couldn't believe they would kill Toadie off but he gets bludgeoned (twice) and cast adrift in a dinghy. By the end of the week, he's in a bad way on the seashore and found by Paul. Whew! Only, now he and Paul are being held at gunpoint. I still think they can't get rid of Toadie.
For anyone using catch-up, sorry for the spoilers, folks!

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-20 13:16:39

Nooooooooo, they cannot kill Toadie, Ellie ? Yes, Toadie ? No

Atqui Sat 21-Mar-20 13:40:26

Oh I missed the gunpoint bit.Presume that was Harry who picked them up? But they can’t have the fire killing them all surely?

EllanVannin Sat 21-Mar-20 13:46:37

Gosh, Toadie still in it ? I stopped watching it years ago when some of the old cast left. Wasn't he very ill a few years back ?

Now, I've been hooked on Home and Away for years and when I was in Oz, we used to picnic on the beach where it's filmed. It's known as Palm Beach, not far from where the family live but in the series it's called Summer Bay.

Is Paul the same Paul from 30 odd years ago? That was when I watched it last, had no idea it’s still going.

Atqui Sat 21-Mar-20 16:47:47

Yes he’s still going strong!

Beechnut Sat 21-Mar-20 16:56:55

Paul must be the Ken Barlow of Neighbours.

ninathenana Sat 21-Mar-20 16:59:39

I watched this religiously when pregnant with DD 30+ years ago. In fact even before birth I'm convinced she recognised the theme tune.
Haven't watched it for about 20 yrs.

tanith Sat 21-Mar-20 17:46:52

One of my guilty pleasures I watch it on catchup while I eat my breakfast I just accidentally read which one of the other characters dies I'm surprised to say the least ?.

Charleygirl5 Sat 21-Mar-20 17:50:03

I have never watched Neighbours but I am less than happy that Casualty is not on tonight.

mary51 Sat 21-Mar-20 18:07:24

I love Neighbours and watch the early one whenever I can. Been watching on and off for about ten years. Plots are ludicrous and often repeated but I love the predictability and the way people are always falling in love. I haven't seen the 10pm ones. I like the constant heat and sunshine and tropical gardens. I wonder if it was Prue who had Finns bomb in the back of the car?!!!

Atqui Sat 21-Mar-20 18:56:05

Yes it was Prue. Perhaps I should have put Spoilers Alert on opening post. Sometimes in a group I go to ( went to)people like to discuss a tv programme and there’s always someone who says “ oh don’t say anything I haven’t watched it yet”- end of conversation!

Atqui Sat 21-Mar-20 18:56:49

Inagree plots are ludicrous but good escapism!!

tanith Sat 21-Mar-20 19:29:46

Yes Prue has died but this is someone else ?

Treebee Sat 21-Mar-20 19:36:16

I watch both Neighbours and Home and Away. I find them much more enjoyable than our home grown soaps. I watched all the End Game épisodes at 10pm last week and wish I hadn’t. Especially in these uncertain days, I found the storylines and the prospect of loved characters dying horribly very distressing, more so as they were broadcast just before bedtime. Next week’s daytime editions look no less worrying.

TerriBull Sat 21-Mar-20 19:59:49

Ninathenana like you I remember watching Neighbours when it was brand new over 30 years ago . The programme coincided when I sat down to give my son one of his middle of the day feeds as a newborn nearly 34 years ago, I remember Paul Robinson. Haven't watched it for years and years but Neighbours was always synonymous with stopping work and becoming a new mum

dragonfly46 Sat 21-Mar-20 20:12:43

I love Neighbours and watched it for years. My DD and I used to watch it together after school.
I agree Annie happy for Ellie to go but not Toadie.

mary51 Sat 21-Mar-20 20:14:54

So Harlow now has no mother and dad in jail. Thank goodness for Paul. They all have an endless stream of half and steps and long lost cousins.

Razzy Sat 21-Mar-20 21:36:06

Apparently Prue may not have died! Gary is definitely dead. I wonder if the actors who play Karl and Susan are leaving? Although Bea and Ellie or Harlow might also be leaving... we’ve had 1 death, 2 to go! Exciting! I’ve watched since it started! Although missed a bit when travelling.

tanith Sat 21-Mar-20 22:38:45

Razzy I was hoping people would not post more spoilers ?

QuaintIrene Sat 21-Mar-20 22:50:30

Can’t say I have watched much Neighbours. Apart from The Wedding,of course.
My dad loved Sons and Daughters, though.
Apparently a lot of the Prisoner cast have been in lots of Australian soaps, there mustn’t be as many actors over there?!
I knew a little boy called Toadie. His mum must have been a fan.

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-20 22:52:04

If I hadn’t read this thread I wouldn’t have known of the
10.00 programme, I record the week and watch Saturday, watched the 10,00 programmes this evening so thank you.
Finn may die ?

I find Ellie and Bea irritating

cornergran Sat 21-Mar-20 22:59:28

I also enjoy Neighbours. Have watched it from the beginning, not that I can remember that far back grin. Loved the late shows this week. Keen now to see who dies hmm.

annep1 Sat 21-Mar-20 23:48:34

I'm a Neighbours addict. Have always watched it. I'm watching the 10pm one. It's entertaining escapism, much needed at the minute.
I'm hoping Gary doesn't spring back to life like Toadie. I'll be glad to see the back of him!
