Delighted that this show is back soon. Something to look forward to grin

Sadly not so much Grammaretto, but the social events connected to my work were often black tie do’s, so my female colleagues and I bought long dresses. For meetings it was suits.

We were heavily influenced by Sue Ellen & Pam in “Dallas“!

My sister still has beautiful colour-coordinated outfits, while I like to spend my days in gardening shorts or trousers.
I can scrub up well if the occasion arises ?

So the Grand Final next week.

I am still hoping Claire wins.

Ellianne Thu 18-Jun-20 07:45:25

Yes, Claire is very good. Her junk dress with the tubing was amazing.

Gaunt47 Thu 18-Jun-20 07:48:41

Another vote for Claire from me!

Grammaretto Thu 18-Jun-20 07:51:41

So few left. I felt sorry for Liz being sent home after getting best 20s dress.
Still between Claire and Nicole which was my original prediction.

vegansrock Thu 18-Jun-20 07:57:55

Nicole makes a load of mistakes every week which seem to get ignored. She should have gone not Liz.

Nandalot Thu 18-Jun-20 08:33:39

I am glad someone else is with me on this, vegansrock. Not only did she not ‘bag out’, Nicole was actually told by the judges where she was going wrong and so had a chance to rectify one of the key elements they were looking for. I think she is their favourite. My DH got fed up with me talking to the television and saying ‘But they told her where she was going wrong!’

gulligranny Thu 18-Jun-20 08:41:17

According to my dear departed Dad, I could " do anything with a needle bar sew", so I can't explain why I find this programme so enthralling - envy, probably.

Nicole does seem to escape by the skin of her teeth, while Claire is head and shoulders above everyone, IMO.

LesleyFi Thu 18-Jun-20 08:44:29

I love it too.....can’t sew to save myself but it doesn't matter!

DanniRae Thu 18-Jun-20 09:10:21

I love the programme but actually have no idea who is going to win but I do know I am going to miss it! sad

Grammaretto Thu 18-Jun-20 10:11:25

what will we watch?
All the good programmes are finishing for "the Summer" and if anything we'll have some awful zoom type copies.

Even my favourite radio progs are saying well that's goodbye till September. Come on now, BBC some of us pay our licence fee.

Any suggestions?

JessK Thu 18-Jun-20 10:40:27

Can't wait for the final next week. My money is on Claire to win but it could be a close run thing. Lets hope there will be another series.

trisher Thu 18-Jun-20 10:45:13

I thought the wrong one went as well. Nicole seems to stay in because she has flair.

Callistemon Thu 18-Jun-20 10:59:32

Liz's first two garments were not so good but then her flapper dress was excellent and, imo, should have won garment of the week. Claire's was not and didn't fit properly; that was a basic error and should never have happened at semi-final stage.

The reason Liz's dress didn't win was because they couldn't choose that as garment of the week then vote her out.

Welshwife Thu 18-Jun-20 11:34:50

I have thought the last couple of weeks that much of the finishing has been poor. Some of those flapper dresses might have been better with camisole style straps etc rather than a very badly finished V neck. We never see the insides either!

Grammaretto Thu 18-Jun-20 11:40:03

Have any of you ever made something like that 20's dress?

I made my DS pyjamas in vyella with french seams when he was 6! ?

Welshwife Thu 18-Jun-20 11:46:37

I once made a pair of men’s pyjamas in Viyella with not only the French seams but also a fly front - so complicated.

Grammaretto Thu 18-Jun-20 12:13:52

Welshwife A fly. Wow!
I may still have those PJs. sad that I am I must have been very proud. I think I was honing my skills on something which wouldn't be seen much. grin

Unfortunately the natural progression was a shirt and I got stuck on the cuffs. I made both sides the same. Anyway his own DC are older than that now and I haven't made them anything since they were babies.

Doodle Thu 18-Jun-20 14:30:00

I gave up trying dressmaking ages ago. Nothing ever fitted ? but I love quilting.
I have watched all the series. It is such a good program.
I think Claire will win too, if nothing goes wrong. I agree nothing much to watch on TV at the moment.

trisher Thu 18-Jun-20 15:07:25

All the dresses I made in the 60s had french seams we were told in needlework they were the only acceptable ones because a lot of fabric frayed.

BlueBelle Thu 18-Jun-20 15:13:40

I would like.Matt to win
I was trying to remember this morning who went out last night so had a quick look on the iPad to remind me and realised I had slept through the whole of the last flapper dress project
I do think the right one went out Liz had not been up to speed on a few past items (before last nights) I think Nicole is in 3rd place with a close run thing between Claire and Matt

Alishka Thu 18-Jun-20 16:12:48

Was it Matt who did that bright red vinyl dress? Whoever it was, I wish they'd sewn those CDs onto it - that dress called out for bulls-eye details on it I reckongrin
Loved Claire's tubing dress!

Grammaretto Thu 18-Jun-20 16:17:39

BlueBelle me too. I slept through the transformation challenge.
I can't remember what Matt has made. He does seem very competent but careless and likes things to be easy.
It will be Claire unless she has a very bad day.

Calendargirl Thu 18-Jun-20 16:27:46

I nod off sometimes, think I also did in the transformation challenge.

We must all be riveted if we keep dropping off!

I suppose the sewing is quite a soporific programme to watch though.

Luckygirl Thu 18-Jun-20 17:54:03

I thought Claire's flapper dress was a total disaster - surely getting the fit right is so basic as to be hardly worth mentioning at this stage of the competition.
