What about the soaps?

Franbern - try Home and Away which is just as frothy, they are both the perfect soaps, just like having a bubble bath! They do stop for quite long periods sometimes during the holidays and I think Neighbours is starting their Easter break early but should be back in April, although with this pandemic who knows? Just can't imagine how they will deal with the virus though. If 'life as we know it' changes then they cannot ignore that.

Jomarie sorry I misread your last sentence and thought you said you were happy to be a sex addict, thought we would all be pearl clutching grin
Teach me not to skim read.

No Neighbours on today........oh dear, what bit of frothy nonsense will I watch when eating my tea today???

Casualty has had its own crisis. Charlie has gone delally and that is a signal for a complete change of the NHS and indeed the national regime . The NHS will never be the same without Charlie Fairhead.

Hopefully this hiatus will give programme makers a chance to come up with something more original and put these soaps out to grass.

I gave up watching Corrie and Emmerdale a few months ago because of the ridiculous storylines, constant changing of partners and annoying characters. I still watch East Enders but prefer just two episodes a week. I have been watching more documentaries, in particular on the BBC iPlayer and some Netflix series as well.

I'm not sure exactly what storylines sodapop because everyone is locked away in their homes with pubs closed, and can't get together for arguments or social events, and can't even murder each other.

I read that the Archers will be mentioning the virus in May. They can all record their parts in their bedrooms, so it probably won't be stopping any time soon.

Good point tanith - I gave up watching CS and EE in June and found it liberating - I had been more and more annoyed with both of them over the years and decided I could make better use of my time!! I haven't missed them at all - which has quite surprised me as I was an avid watcher of both (sad I know)
Maybe, just maybe the producers/script writers may think again about the lack of humour and the sheer misery of these soaps and make a concerted effort to be a little more lighthearted and reflect real life a bit more rather than the constant awful scenarios they create and are then copied religiously by every other soap ad nauseum
Am happy to be an ex addict - now if only I could stop my other bad habits my OH might smile at me occasionally grin

I presume that they will not start filming again until we are over the worst of this, and then there could still be a longish period before they start broadcasting the new episodes.
I am hoping that they might just slip a few Covid-related comments in the script to add an air of reality, rather than deciding to have Covid-related storylines!

I was reading that the producers are now worried that people will get used to being without their soaps they’ll get used to it and stop watching once the premade episodes run out.

humptydumpty Sun 29-Mar-20 18:30:14

jmoinged ??

kittylester Sun 29-Mar-20 18:23:49

I quite often watch Doctors after lunch. I've missed the last 3 or 4 but it hadn't jmoinged prior to that!

Ellianne Sun 29-Mar-20 18:16:23

But not so many affairs could take place! wink

Ellianne Sun 29-Mar-20 18:14:59

Well everyone is still gathering in the Queen Vic and the café!
I had a very chilling thought, being from that area myself, the new hospital at the Excel is just up the road from Albert Square. You see it on the title graphics.
I think the storylines would have to be handled very sensitively. There might be a few more murders in the families.

Charleygirl5 Sun 29-Mar-20 18:11:28

A good exit if anybody wants to leave but it will be permanent!

sodapop Sun 29-Mar-20 18:09:15

They can't ignore it surely, gives them scope for so many story lines.

ayse Sun 29-Mar-20 18:09:01

The Beeb said it wasn’t making East Enders, Casualty or Holly if anyone watches them. I. I don’t know about the rest.

Ilovecheese Sun 29-Mar-20 18:06:50

I suppose it depends on the health of the actors.

Chestnut Sun 29-Mar-20 17:54:45

I think they will all be disrupted, but how will they cope when they start up again? Just business as usual or a virus related storyline?

EllanVannin Sun 29-Mar-20 17:52:24

My Home and Away is going to be disrupted. Because it's running behind in this country it'll be shown until it's caught up with episodes in Oz then will probably stop or reduce episodes from 5 to 3 because of it being filmed live.

Chestnut Sun 29-Mar-20 17:40:39

How will the soaps deal with the virus do you think?

They have several episodes in the can but have stopped filming. So when they start up again will they bring in the virus or ignore it? I can't see how they can include it without it taking over completely. It's just too enormous.
