Anyone watching “Normal People”

I’m afraid I skipped to the end and am now going to rewatch it.

I think it’s beautifully done I m so tempted to finish it all off but I want something to look forward to as there is precious little on tv so need to curb my desires
Beautifully acted and a lovely Bitter /sweet story

Haven’t watched it. Was put off by a review that called it ‘up-market smut’, or words to that effect.

You can't say beautiful enough! It really is. It kept popping up on my ipad after I'd watched something else on catchup but because I was pottering around the kitchen I didn't actually watch it. It was only when a friend recommended it that I sat down and watched it on the tv that I was drawn into it.

It is quite beautiful. I have not read the book but love, love the TV series.

I’m binge watching it. Works for me on several levels. It really brings back the pain of young love, a time in our lives when life revolves around looking for love and relationships that were so powerful you can still feel the pain half a century later. Tied up with the fact that we used to go to Ireland every year to visit a friend who has recently died. For some reason I’d been thinking about her a lot recently and remembering the wonderful times we’d spent in Ireland, so news of her death upset me terribly. So I’m finding the series bitter sweet but riveting.

Finished watching it a couple of nights ago, far better than the book imo, superb nuanced performances from the two leads. Slow, but engrossing, I enjoyed it very much.

I watched a review programme last night, Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode we’re reviewing lots of films past and present. They interviewed the Director of Normal People and Simon and Mark were full of praise for the series so it doesn’t just appeal to teenagers. Both MK and SM said they watched it with a view to watching two episodes at the most and ended up watching all of it.

I'm bingeing and on episode 9. I think it's nicely done but very angsty. It could do with some humour, in my view, to lift it a bit.

I'd like to see more of Marianne's family too. The brother is particularly menacing, potentially.

I also watched a Horizon programme originallyh shown in 1974 about induced births. Having had the experience of a dreadful induced birth which I believe affected both myself and my baby, I found it very interesting, enlightening - and ultimately disturbing.

I watched the last two episodes of Normal People tonight and thought it was beautifully done. I can't understand why anyone would find the sex scenes offensive because, at least between Connal and Marianne, they were gentle and caring. I thought the whole drama was so real and believable and touched on so many important issues.

One of the best things I've seen on TV for a long while.

I binge watched it over a couple of days and thought it was excellent. I haven't read the book but many people are saying the television adaptation is even better than the book, which they had obviously enjoyed. I too noticed the matching underwear then realised the wealthy mother would only buy matching underwear for her daughter, things like that matter more than showing actual love and understanding to some people. I never quite got why the girl's brother seemed to be so much in control in the cold, unfriendly, household, small wonder the girl was so lacking in self-esteem she let other boyfriends abuse her the way she did. Connal was lovely, a very sensitive piece of acting from that young man throughout the entire series imo. I found it very moving.

I’ll be watching the last couple of episodes tonight, I’m enjoying the nudity and sex scenes immensely

I should have read your original post more carefully as you say there that it is in 12 x half hour episodes! I feel there is a lot in the story that is not explained and so I was expecting further episodes ?

I haven’t read it, sorry! I guess TV are just cashing in - not always successful!

Yes, there are 12 episodes. That’s the end of the book. They’re going to televise her previous book next year - “Conversations with friends”

Think episode 12 is the last, is that the end of the book? (I haven’t read the book).

How many episodes are there? I watched episode 12 last week but can’t find any more Is there going to be a second series?

It’s so moving.
We are loving it.
The acting is some of the best I’ve seen.
Just don’t want it to end.

I am following it but am not fully engaged as there seem to be far to many repetitive sex scenes when I find myself admiring the headboard rather than what is going on below; I wonder if their relationship falters because they indulged in full blown sex before they scarcely knew each other. The relationship between Marianne and her family is far more gripping. There was real menace when her brother walked behind her as she was standing at the sink; I thought he was about to hit her with the wine bottle, then their mother said nothing after he taunted her, poured water over her and gave her a vicious shove.
The book was suggested for my book group, and rejected; I hope it isn't resurrected.

I started watching it on i player as nothing else on. I am now ahead of the tv episodes, think I have 4 more to go.

I think it’s very good. The lead actor (so far anyway) seems such a nice chap, the sort you would want your daughter to marry. And the girl is so pretty, but lots of issues.

Not sure ‘Normal’ People is the right title.

Shall try and get the book to read.

TerriBull I agree with you 100%, the two young actors engaged my emotions very well, in fact although I have watched the whole series, when ads for forthcoming episodes come on tv, tears come to my eyes. I will probably watch it again before it disappears from the iPlayer.
