Witzend Thank you for this. I saw the original too but would love to see it a 2nd time. His story was as dramatic and tense as an episode of "Spooks" !

Ditto. Had a crush on Nureyev when at school. I was lucky enough to see him dance le corsaire at the met in New York in my twenties.
I was travelling round USA and just walked into the met box office and got a ticket - didn’t break the bank. Imagine

In case anyone’s interested, apropos of my Men At The Barre post the other day, I found the BBC docu-drama on YouTube - I just put in Dance to Freedom and it came up.

I did see the original but it’s well worth a 2nd watch - the story of the few months leading up to his defection, and what finally triggered his decision.
The young dancer who plays Nureyev is extraordinarily like him.

I can only have been 12, but I still remember vividly the headlines at the time - such a major thing at the height of the Cold War.
