Bloody football!

Yes, I know some like it, but looking at the tv schedule for the forthcoming Saturday evening, 7.15 to 9.45 on BBC 1 is given over to it, then 10.35 to 11.50! Give me strength!

I suppose one saving grace is that it's not international games, with people (and I use the term lightly) chanting their support for a non existent country called "Engerland".

So Phoenix, when you've aquired a 2nd tv, proudly show it to OH, and say " look darling, ive got you this so you will be able to watch ALL the sports on it- while i watch all the stuff ive been meaning to catch up on in the lounge"- oh to be a fly on the wall...grinhmm

Hate it with a passion I’m lucky in that DH hates it as well. Why do these tv channels think everyone enjoys it being televised morning noon and night ?! It dominated some headlines when nothing was even being played! Sad !! With all that’s going on in the world why does sport take such precedence? Money of course angry just like they went ahead with the Cheltenham races but that obviously wasn’t behind closed doors as they needed the ‘punters’ there.

There are severe already dedicated sports channels and this is the first time for many years that football is on free to air channels because of special circumstances. It should help keep people at home rather than trying to see matches elsewhere. As we have had no live sport for 3 months a few football matches are great to see. After all there is no Wimbledon, very little cricket and some of us sports fans are pleased to see some sport back on TV.

Nannan2 Thu 18-Jun-20 10:26:05

And theres the rub, all you who have OH or whomever, who insist on having the sports on, expect YOU to be the one giving up the main tv for them, and watching (or whatever!) something else on a 2nd tv/screen/tablet/ etc.- Just as the tv organisers expect us soap or film watchers to give up the main tv channels for it all- as though its NOT as important as the sport is! Thats what is so annoying!angry

Oh gawd theres the bike riding too, and the bowls, the list is bloody endless!sad

Sadgrandma Thu 18-Jun-20 10:17:09

When I first met my husband, I asked him if he was a football fan and he told me he wasn't interested - Yeah!! My ex had been obsessed and it drove me mad. However, what he failed to tell me was he was obsessed with just about any other sport - cricket, darts, bowls, cycling you name it and, yes he's quite into football these days too, since his brother has encouraged him to accompany him to their local team games! Ah well, earphones on and I'll be watching things on my Kindle.

Grandad1943, thought you'd gone to 'the office'?grin

Nannan2 Thu 18-Jun-20 10:13:04

No, no exceptions, for wimbledon or anything else! What would be any type of sports should go on the dedicated channel- and stay on it! And yes, Shelmiss, another one for just the reality crap they dish out constantly too!- do tv bosses think thats all there is to our nation? Just sport watchers or reality tv viewers? Have they never thought to ask us?No of course not! That would be too easy.hmm Yes there is all the other channels, & Netflix etc but why should that mean our usual normal channels are taken over & usual programmes ditched for sport or reality show rubbish?angry

patricia1958 Thu 18-Jun-20 10:06:38

Sorry to say but its on again Sunday morning

Nannan2 Thu 18-Jun-20 10:01:58

Advice to phoenix, get another tv! Most homes have more than one these days, unless you live alone, & it doesn't have to be a big or expensive one, or look/ask for one on Freecycle!

Callistemon Thu 18-Jun-20 10:01:49

Nannan2

Yes Callistemon, but then the ITV group will want to do it too! Could always dedicate ITV2 or 3 or4 i guess? But they wouldn't bother asking us, the actual viewers/licence fee payers first, would they?hmm

Yes, ITV3!

Apart from Wimbledon which should take utmost priority on BBC1!!
I doubt they will put on two weeks of classic tennis matches.

GreenGran78 Thu 18-Jun-20 10:01:13

There are far more fans of theatre than of football. What a pity that we can’t have ‘Show of the Day’ and watch all the best of the West End!
So many people from the entertainment world have been thrown out of work, but have had far less attention than the ‘poor’ footballers.

Shelmiss Thu 18-Jun-20 09:57:58

I don't like football but more than that I hate reality TV - I think there should be a dedicated channel to all that stuff. Oh wait, there is: all of them! sad

BladeAnnie Thu 18-Jun-20 09:57:06

I hate to say this but I love football!! Been a season ticket holder for many years and my team was the first to k/o last nightsmile

Newquay Thu 18-Jun-20 09:57:02

I cannot stand football or indeed most other sports. Especially these days with these overpaid twerps playing football. Sky is just so greedy-it drives me mad! It’s all about big money making business these days, little to do with sport imho. And don’t get me started on the misery of gambling. Rant over!

Nannan2 Thu 18-Jun-20 09:56:40

No sport ever in our abode.

I think it stems from OH and I both having sports-mad fathers who were able to impose sport on the household, especially on a Saturday afternoon. I think we must both have rebelled when we had a choice.

So no sport in our house with a possible exception when the Olympics are running. Only some of the final events, though. Definitely not wall to wall.

Callistemon Thu 18-Jun-20 09:53:49

Welshwife

You are all lucky to have had the weeks free of sport! BBC Wales has had not only football matches on but also international rugby!
I have often wondered why they do not show the sport on one channel or even put it on BBC2 sometimes.

I don't mind rugby, especially when they score a try, sliding across in all that mud.

Toadinthehole Thu 18-Jun-20 09:52:18

Thirty years ago I’d have agreed, but since, we’ve had and still have..video, DVD’s, all the i player channels, NetFlix, Amazon, and the most useful of gadgets....the set top box! Why would you care what’s on live TV?

Nannan2 Thu 18-Jun-20 09:51:48

Yes, i forgot, theres the rugby as wellangryYes that is a great thing young Marcus has done for charity! Good on him! But constant footy and other sports, still no!grin

Callistemon Thu 18-Jun-20 09:51:15

Why not dedicate one BBC channel to sport?
Turn the useless BBC3 channel entirely over to sport and then everyone will be happy.

Izabella Thu 18-Jun-20 09:49:17

I am truly blessed. NEVER any footie in this house. In fact the tv is rarely on these days.

grandtanteJE65 Thu 18-Jun-20 09:47:51

Well, nowadays there is always netflix!

We don't have to watch football and Tour de France.

Of course, out television can be turned off, as neither of us cares for spectator sports.

Grandad1943 Thu 18-Jun-20 09:45:01

Ahh, come on, go with the flow Nannan2. ?

Nannan2 Thu 18-Jun-20 09:43:52

Oh & when we're really lucky, theres the olympics as well!grin
