I read the book first, then saw the stage play.and then the film. All are very good and really do represent (in a fictionalised way) Australia as it was in the 1950s and we were beginning to move towards the multicultural society we have now become. I very much identified with the heroine.

Yes I watched it, it was the first film I watched on Netflix a few weeks ago, enjoyed it, easy to watch, no violence/swearing etc etc .

Thoroughly agree I really enjoyed it.

Yes I saw it some months ago, and did recommend it then. I loved it, such a feel good film and a bit different. Also enjoyed seeing old style Sydney. Agreed I will watch again when I need "taking out of myself".

I watched this film on Netflix last night. I don't know how well known it is but I had never heard of it. It starred Julia Ormond and was set in Sydney in 1959.
I can thoroughly recommend it as a really feel good film with excellent acting. For me it was the sort of film I will watch again and again.
Has anyone else seen it? If so what did you think.
