Watched the first episode of this remake last night. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as the original one back in the 70s, but it was fantastic. I absolutely loved it. The characters were perfect, the animals, the beautiful scenes of the Yorkshire Dales everything! I would recommend it to anyone even if you don't like animals. There's a scene at the end where a calf is born after a very difficult birth and that reduced me to tears though. It's on channel 5 9pm on Tuesdays. My only complaint it should be Sunday night viewing.

No.not for me! Mrs Hall is far too young and behaves too much like a member of the family, Tristan is so dull and slightly morose, James? Siegfried okish, but not a patch on Robert Hardy. As for Mrs pompfrey? Oh no! Not a patch on the original.

I didn’t see the first series but I’ve just watched the first two episodes with my dd. We both loved it and will be watching the rest.

Is that beautiful dog a Golden Retriever? It’s huge!

I missed the first episode as I thought it was just repeats. Then recorded the second episode, and watched the first on Catch-up.
Absolutely, excellent, light entertanment at its best - just what we all need at this time.,

^Diana Rigg plays Tricky Woo's mummy.*
I didn't know that Alexa until I read the other thread. Sad, but nice that she was working until recently.

Totally agree loved it first time around . I think this is a brilliant remake . I said to my husband should be on a Sunday night x

Lisagran- fat finger syndrome on my part!

Lisagran Sun 06-Sept-20 12:38:22

I enjoyed the programme, by the way - a bit of escapism!

It's 2021. Time for your own TV or at least your own remote.

Fully agree with your comment Jane10 - and I like your idea of pretending that this awful year, 2020, Is over and we’re in next year now grin

Cabbie21 - Husband sounds a bit Victorian, hope you’re able to live your own life in other ways?

I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch it but after reading all the positive reviews on here I thought I would give it a try. Absolutely loved it!

I enjoyed this reboot. I thought the cast selection was spot on. Will be interested to see Tristran in the next episode.

Really enjoyed this remake which we thought was better than the original. The cast seems perfect. Best thing we have seen for awhile. Well done a Channel 5 you have brightened our viewing.

I loved it too.

It's being repeated on Sunday at 6pm (Channel 5) for anyone who hasn't seen it yet or who would prefer to watch it on Sundays ?

Many thanks for the time of the repeat xx

They definitely have a hit on their hands if the opening episode is anything to go by.

Like others I remember the original and was doubtful that the new version would be as good but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I agree though that it would make perfect Sunday night viewing, but there is nothing to stop us recording it to watch them.

Looking forward to the next episode!

I had recorded this and decided to watch it last night. My husband wasn’t going to watch it with me but said would give it 10 minutes to see what it was like. We both loved it and will be viewing it again.

cornergran Thu 03-Sept-20 23:44:43

We enjoyed it, relaxed viewing with superb scenery.

Gwyneth Thu 03-Sept-20 22:49:47

threexnanny ........yes I agree re Mrs. Hall being a little too young and attractive. In fact I thought she and Siegfried made a lovely pair. A possible romance do you think? Or is that a step too far from the original?

gulligranny Thu 03-Sept-20 22:40:43

Thought it was great, as good as the original. Samuel West had big shoes to fill and did it perfectly. Love the chap playing James and the girl playing Helen. DH loved it too (he doesn't have control of the remote; it's mine I tell you, mine!) so that's another positive.

Floradora9 Thu 03-Sept-20 16:03:55

Cannot say I enjoyed it all the falling about in the mud was so staged . I will stick with it for a few weeks and hope it gets better. James Herriot's son wrote a very good biography of him well worth a read .

Grandmabatty Thu 03-Sept-20 15:04:35

I've just watched the opening episode after all the positive comments here and I really enjoyed it. I thought the acting was excellent right from the start, the period features looked authentic and it was lovely to see the Yorkshire countryside.

blondenana Thu 03-Sept-20 15:01:27

I always watch the Yorkshire vet,and followed on by All creatures great
Love Our Yorkshire farm too and small was a perfect viewing evening for me

Looks like I’m alone in not liking it. It could be because, for me, Robert Hardy and co captured the characters perfectly, but I’ll persevere, if only for the scenery!

DH controls the remote and he decided not to watch it. We were both concerned that a new version could not live up to the wonderful Robert Hardy and co. I would like to see it though and will try to convince him.

Blimey! Do you have no say in what you watch?

DH would love to control the remote but in order to do that he'd have to stop nodding off because I've mastered the art of releasing the magic buttons from his grip without waking him up! grin
