I joined netflix to watch the queen and kept it through lockdown but I decided enough was enough, there has been nothing I wanted to watch on netflix for weeks. M and H signing up was the last straw, I have cancelled. It will most definitely not be missed

Growing0ldDisgracefully

We are thinking of ceasing paying for the licence fee for many reasons, also cancelling the sky subscription and just sticking with Netflix, amazon prime and 'ordinary' channels such as ITV. I'm not a huge watcher of TV but OH is. However we have discovered the catch up of Outlander on Amazon and have been binge watching that - how steamy is that!

I thought you have to have a tv licence if you watch or record programmes from any channel not just BBC.

I’m not a big television watcher, however I do like the odd series. We’ve been using our sons Netflix account and I’ve really enjoyed Safe and The Stranger written by Harlan Coben and After Life starring Ricky Gervais.

Thanks for some of the other mentions of programmes on here, I will take a look.

My problem with netflix is the amount of swearing. When they took over designated survivor the f word was used consistently and spoilt the series for me

Growingold - you need a TV LICENCE to watch or stream anything. I’ve just checked on TV Licencing.

i agree all Netflix customers should cancel and say it is because of Meghan and Harry they would soon cancel the deal
Then you can go back

grannygrumps1- one of the good things about Netflix is that there are no advertisements!

I joined to watch the Crown and see what all the fuss was about. After watching the Crown I went through films and TV.
Most of the TV series I`ve seen, only a few films of interest. I lasted one month then gave it up. Might go back when the next series of the Crown is finished. Having them two involved does not help me to want to go back.

We watch more Netflix than live TV. All down to personal preference.

I got Netflix at beginning of lockdown and it has been a saving grace. Changed my Sky package very slightly and got it for a very small amount extra. Not been much on terrestrial TV or Sky all summer. Have usually managed to find something on Netflix. Watching Young Wallander currently. DH likes science fiction and there's plenty to keep him happy.

My son (21) signed up to netflix for his uni student half price offer- and as there was something then i was keen to see & it wasnt on sky, and theres his younger brother at home too, now hes re- enrolled this yr hes resigned netflix, so i agreed to pay half of what hes paying, so its not too bad.ive not had time to browse further though, but we both have a netflix button on our tv remotes, and yes it does show you a list of shows.might browse the movies when ive time.

We signed up for Netflix. I use it as a bribe to get my DH to do long walks with me - he walks, I don’t complain about his choice of program and some of them are dire, only bearable as background noise!
Thank heavens for work prep and jigsaws!!
I do enjoy series like Unforgettable, The Good Witch ( NOT Sabrina!) Lucifer, White Collar and the Republic of Doyle and there are often films and series which we remember and watch for nostalgia.
Thanks to Netflix I discovered that Mark Harmon wasn’t just in NCIS?.

Ayse. If you cancel Now TV I have found that they come back in a month or so and offer a reduced subscription. I'm currently only paying £1.46p a month. I gave up Virgin last year after my husband died and my son moved into his own flat. Saved loads of money. I share my Prime and Netflix details with my DD. I watched Hamilton using hers
Disney+ but not interested in Disney as it seems to be children's programmes plus the Marvel and Star Wars franchises; none of which I'm interested in.

All the comments about M&H are a bit mean, live& let live i say! You (nearly)all loved Harry till he got married! I wouldnt let them signing up to anything influence me tbh, as someone else said they're not forcing you to watch them.

Lilyflower Tue 08-Sept-20 11:16:28

My DH and I say that, if it were not for Nexflix, enjoyed on my DS's account, we would be forced to talk to each other.

Happily we never seem to run out of things to watch. We have particularly enjoyed:-
'The Looming Tower'
'Mindhunters'
'The Break'
'Borderland'
'Bordertown'
'The Crown'
'The Forest'.

We are currently watching 'Young Wallander'. It is not at all a plausible prequel to 'Wallander' as it is set in the present day and is very PC. However, if viewed on its own merits, it is an engaging enough crime drama. The chap who plays Wallander is very handsome too!

Jodieb
Just ask one of them to include you on their account. It is free to add another family member to an existing subscription.

That is what we did....and our connection is free. Great to have it available to dip into when required.

jerseygirl Tue 08-Sept-20 11:34:59

We love Netflix, its been a godsend throughout lockdown. Just finished watching The Fall which was brilliant. I wouldn't part with it now. You can always find something to watch. Worth every penny of the monthly charge.

pansypotter58 Tue 08-Sept-20 11:37:06

Frankie and Grace..

? It depends what you choose to watch on Netflix!!

glammanana Tue 08-Sept-20 11:44:04

Jodieb I use my DDs account she has the option to sign in 6 (I think) other family members either in the same house or not,she has her account on my lounge TV and my bedroom TV .

Spookwriter23 Tue 08-Sept-20 11:47:56

I love Netflix, and watch a film every night there's some good series on as well, I got with my TV contract, I also have sky cinema

Nightsky2 Tue 08-Sept-20 12:05:12

Clairefontaine. you can only do this if you live in the same house and not if your son or daughter lives somewhere else!.

Soniah Tue 08-Sept-20 12:06:13

Love Netflix, some great films plus series like Stranger Things, Dark (very complex but brilliant), Umbrella Academy to name but a few, a series starring one of the actresses in Stranger things about Sherlock Holmes young sister looking for her mother who disappears starting soon. If I had to choose one provider it would be Netflix

suziewoozie Tue 08-Sept-20 12:07:48

Nightsky do you mean ‘can’ in the legal or practical sense? I expect it’s part of the contract with Netflix but there you go.

I have also cancelled Netflix. I joined to watch The Crown, binge watched it and then cancelled it again because I couldn't find anything else to watch. I don't watch american programmes or things I've already seen. I watch mostly BBC iPlayer, things like antique programmes, food shows and quizzes. I've watched so much less tv since the start of lockdown.
Instead of Netflix I subscribed to Readly which gives me loads of magazines on all sorts of subjects including all the weeklys to read on my tablet and costs hardly more a month than buying Woman's Weekly every week, and I read books on my kindle constantly.

Nitpick48 Tue 08-Sept-20 12:29:24

@quizqueen “Foolish enough to pay for it?” Thanks a bunch!
