Ooh, yes Miss Marple. Good point!
It’s been a while so I will start us off…….whats for supper and why?
How do you hang your washing out?
The main room in your house...
Started watching this 3 parter last night. Couldn’t recall the case until I saw the pictures of the murdered couple, and remember thinking at the time how shocking to be killed as you walked innocently on a coastal path.
Found it to be a bit plodding. Probably because there was no ‘who dun it’, as we know who did it.
Ooh, yes Miss Marple. Good point!
But i was wondering all through it - how could the police not have got a photo of him from years ago if they'd gone to spain then surely the passport office could have helped with that?!?
I like the dramas over 3/4 nights then i record them & watch one after the other! The weekly one hour episodes are too time consuming to wait for and I've lost interest before we get to the end.And yes the adverts i always fast- forward as well.
Thanks AuntieFlo and you to ginny for reminding me about Ch.4 at 9pm tonight. I shall definitely tune in.
Didn’t know the murderer had a daughter. She’s possibly around early 40’s now. Maybe she didn’t want to be involved. It must be awful having such a psychopath for a father.
Poor Andrew. His dad was so cruel to him. His mum was an emotional wreck and bullied too.
I cannot imagine what angst that mum must have felt leaving her beaten, sick 12y old at home whilst a group of them flew off to Spain on the murderer’s ‘Spot the Ball’ winnings. No way could I have done that - let alone enjoy a holiday. She must have been really frightened of her bullying.husband mustn’t she?
She even stuck by him when he was in prison! That’s the time I’d have gone to report all I knew to the Police. I’d have felt safe enough to do it then. He was in prison originally for 9 years. I have to wonder why she held back?
I was living overseas so had no inkling of this case so therefore totally absorbed over 3 nights. Clues would have to be investigated meticulously in order to prove guilt. This is not unusual in the real world. A professionally produced story. Will watch follow-up tonight.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I knew the verdict, I felt quite worried waiting for the jury's decision in case they found him not guilty. How brave of the 2 girls, one of them sexually assaulted and the other raped to appear in court to give their evidence.
It looks like I didn't miss anything, then. I struggled to catch up the 1st two episodes yesterday afternoon, the internet just didn't reach that room, tried another TV it wasn't set up for ITV HUB so gave up!
I found it compulsive watching. I liked that it was shown over 3 consecutive evenings, (when it's weekly it takes me half the programme to catch up..!!)
I'm looking forward to seeing the true story behind it tonight, is it on ITV at 9pm, Auntieflo?
I don't remember the original case at all and had actually picked up the story via an Australian newspaper!
Only saw the last night one, but enjoyed it.
We have all got used to the speedy cases in Midsummer Murders etc when police tramp all over the evidence and it's all sorted within an hour so this would seem slow. But especially with cold cases , according to a policeman friend of mine, that is how it is, like putting together a jigsaw.
Sorry, but couldn't see the excellent Luke Evans without thinking "Beauty and the Beast"!!
Poppyred
Welsh accents were spot on for a change! It would have made better drama if the murders had been re-enacted as well, in my opinion.
Interesting that the real Superintendent Steve Wilkins is from Cheshire - but who would object to having Luke Evans playing your part?
Thoroughly enjoyed it. May have been portrayed as a plodder in the series, but my goodness, all credit to his determined doggedness, his hunches and insistence on going over and over the forensics.
I enjoyed it and thought it well done, even DH who wasn't interested even got caught up with the story.
There is a follow up on Ch4 tonight, at 9 pm, if anyone is interested.
Jane10
Callistemon those forensic costs would be the same whoever employed the scientists to carry out the painstaking work plus their equipment. It just wouldn't be as itemised I suppose.
I definitely would not have watched if the offences were re enacted.
Yes, possibly , Jane10 but it is all so different since privatisation. Profits entered the equation.
Cameron knew he'd made a mistake.
I thought it was very worthwhile and gripping even though we did know the outcome. The eye for detail and dedication shown by the police was amazing.

In it, Steve Wilkins says that when the drama was suggested to him, his first thought was for the families & the victims, and how important it was to him that it should be sensitively portrayed and not sensationalised. I think the cast and the producer & director succeeded admirably.
We watched this too and thought it was sensitively handled for a police drama. I heaved a sign of relief when the verdicts came in. We’ve spent many happy holidays in Little Haven and know that stretch of the coast path and the surrounding countryside very well. Horrible things happen in even the most beautiful of places.
I definitely wouldn't have watched if the murders had been reinacted. How awful would that be the families who have suffered enough.
I agree with Chestnut's posts. I found it fascinating and horrifying.
IT was very good, hard to watch at times but I would love to know if Andrew made a life for himself, he was so short of money, company and a comfortable home. Despite all the cruelty he is a good man and deserves the rest of his life be good. There is a younger sister, Theressa but she was never mentioned.
We really enjoyed it and thought Keith Allen was amazing, do wonder what happened to the son.
I found it gripping. Wasn’t it chilling that when the police arrested him the boot of his car had all his requirements for another crime - rope, balaclava etc? I thought Keith Allen played a blinder. Forgot he was Lily Allen’s dad!

We enjoyed it after initially thinking it was a bit slow. And actually it made a change that it focused on the painstaking police procedure rather than dramatic flashbacks.Very well acted too by all the cast.
I wanted to like it but found it tedious and actually slept through most of part two.
Poppyred It would have made better drama if the murders had been re-enacted as well, in my opinion
I probably wouldn’t have watched it at all. I can’t bear seeing violence even when it’s fictional, let alone based on a true story.
It was hard enough watching the two girls give their evidence.
