Or other channels .... I don’t have Amazon prime or sky. I’ve run out of things to watch. I’m on series 2 of spiral but find it heavy going, a bit too brutal. Have seen all Line of Duty and The Bridge
I’ve watched Bridgerton Queens Gambit Rita Virgin River seaside hotel on all4 Offspring Rake Grace and Frankie....
Embarrassing how much I’ve watched ! A lot of it in the wee small hours

Lucca Sun 17-Jan-21 17:11:41

Yes I looked into that. It it seems then You still have to pay for some stuff?

welshwife Marseille is in French with subtitles- I didn’t have a problem with the subtitles on our tv, it’s a good series.

Mollygo Sun 17-Jan-21 17:00:02

Emily in Paris-very enjoyable. Bridgerton-good for costumes and ideas for using stepladders, Republic of Doyle, Unforgettable, White Collar, all enjoyed and Bones-really good for making you immune to the sight of gruesome bodies. Couldn’t cope with Anne with an E. I loved the books, but the series has been given a 20th century “look how evil we can be” twist that wasn’t in the books.
Currently I’m binge watching House on Prime.

Thanks *Grannynannywanny, I will do that.

Glorybee Sun 17-Jan-21 16:27:34

pensionpat , yes, we watched Unorthodox first, Shira Haas who played Esther is also in Shtisel, a fabulous series!

pensionpat Sun 17-Jan-21 16:22:12

I love Catastrophe. Episodes is also very funny. Glory bee have you found Unorthodox? So interesting.

Grannynannywanny Sun 17-Jan-21 16:19:23

Lucca and shysal Catastrophe was originally on channel 4 and I watched it last night on the channel 4 catch up app All4. It’s free. I downloaded the All4 app and logged in and there was lots to pick from

We watched and really enjoyed Shtisel on Netflix. It’s subtitled but that didn’t spoil it. It’s described as
‘A Haredi family living in an ultra-Orthodox neighbourhood of Jerusalem reckons with love, loss and the doldrums of daily life.’

It's not difficult to be streets ahead of Holby!!

annodomini Sun 17-Jan-21 15:43:14

On Amazon Prime, I discovered New Amsterdam, a hospital series with a difference. It shows up the enormous cracks in the US health 'system'. The stories of the main characters are believable and I found I wanted to know 'what happens next', so binge-watched until the series came to a temporary halt because of the pandemic. I look forward to the day when it can resume. Streets ahead of Holby!

Berylsgranny, yes I’ve watched all Ozark on Netflix, I really enjoyed it. It got more violent, the last 3 episodes of series 3 were so appalling, I was revolted.
But I will watch the next series which is supposed to be last, I want to see how it all ends.
I really enjoyed Good Girls, can’t wait for another series. Recently I’ve enjoyed Little fires everywhere, on Amazon Prime.

This evening I am going to watch The Nun's Story recorded from BBC2 yesterday. I remember watching it many years ago, but have forgotten most of the story.

I watched it yesterday afternoon and had also forgotten most of the story.

It's a great film.

We did the month free trial with Amazon prime mainly because of postage before Christmas. then in desperation looked at Amazon Prime TV and were pleasantly surprised what was available, including lots of documentaries. We have decided to renew for another months at £7.99 which is less the cost of a cinema ticket.

Has anyone watched Ozark on Netflix? - it's very good. Lots of swearing and sex scenes if you don't mind that but the story line is quite good. Worth a try.

Me too ?.

petra Sun 17-Jan-21 14:15:23

Shysal
Same for you. Join free for one month.

petra Sun 17-Jan-21 14:14:21

Lucca
Is the reason you don't have Amazon because you don't like the company?
If that's not the case why not sign up for a months free trail.
If your concerned that you might not remember to cancel etc
When you join and receive your confirmation email cancel then. You will still get your month free trail.
If you don't feel happy with that take your card off the site then there's nowhere for Amazon to take your money from.

shysal Sun 17-Jan-21 14:04:58

I Googled Catastrophe, it seems to be only on Amazon Prime which I don't have, what a shame.

A friend recommended Catastrophe, a romantic comedy starring Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney. I tried it yesterday evening and enjoyed it so much I watched 5 episodes on the trot.

Is that Netflix ?

grannyactivist Sun 17-Jan-21 13:51:24

We’re watching ‘This is us’ on Prime at the moment, just one episode each evening. We then spend ages discussing it. It’s very moving at times, I needed to replenish the box of tissues I keep under the coffee table!

J52 Sun 17-Jan-21 13:38:03

I bring to the list:
Dirty John Betty Broderick
The Laundromat ( not about washing)
Enola Holmes
Motherhood BBC series
The Irishman

Vegan can I ask if Marseille was in French or English? We started watching it but could only get the French dialogue and although normally that would be fine with subtitles we found they were white in a light background and difficult to read.

Jane10 Sun 17-Jan-21 12:29:40

I was late to 'Anne with an E' on Netflix. I'd thought it would be sickly wet stuff but it absolutely isn't. I'm happily spending my afternoons on 19th Century Prince Edward Island these days. The characters are interesting and the storylines are good too.

pensionpat Sun 17-Jan-21 11:58:17

We are watching more tv than usual so I appreciate these recommendations. I have recently started to watch old favourites( I mean really old) on YouTube. We’ve enjoyed the whole 91 episodes of The Onedin Line, all 4 series of Shine on Harvey Moon (very funny) and plan to watch Friends in the North. Roll on gardening time!
