Is anyone else watching it? Looks interesting.

Late to the party as only finished watching it on Catch up yesterday but found it very annoying. So many reasons to shout at the TV. Also concerned how the recently bereaved would see it. So unrealistic! That maybe wouldn't have mattered if it had been funny, but it definitely wasn't.

Keeley Hawes at her worst, silly smile included.

I so agree, especially the smile.

☺️

I watched it in one go, I liked the dark humour but I did think they tried to tick every politically correct box as possible and it got a bit tiring. I do realise I am turning into my Mother. Surely building standards wouldn't have signed off a flight of stairs open like that anyway? and she wouldn't be able to keep going into the hospital morgue like that?

Kandinsky Thu 04-Feb-21 17:16:14

I gave up after 4 episodes, I just lost interest.

Total dross!

Just watched on catch-up. Don't know why I bothered. Keeley Hawes at her worst, silly smile included. No basis in normality at all. If they kept roling the body out for her to see wouldn't it have begun to decay? Imagine having that in your house!!!!

BlueBelle

I can’t imagine why loveto I haven’t heard anyone who enjoyed it yet

Seems to make no difference if ‘they’ want to do a second series.

‘Hold The Sunset’, a prime example.

I rest my case.

I love black comedy and don’t find this distasteful, just not funny or witty. Tried second episode to give it a chance and turned it off after 10 mins, just too daft.

I only saw the first one last night so have not read others views. I must admit I found it funny and interesting and looking forward to watching part 2.

Calendargirl Tue 26-Jan-21 08:02:02

Glad it’s not just me who doesn’t find it in the least funny.

‘Tasteless’ is how I’d describe it, from relatives wandering around the mortuary viewing the deceased whenever they feel like it, the mortuary attendant’s wooly hat and scarf adorning the corpse, a motley selection of folk rocking up with the coffin balanced precariously on the car, the grieving widow digging the grave in the night atop a mechanical digger.....

I just wonder how anyone recently bereaved feels about all this, assuming they are still watching.

BlueBelle Tue 26-Jan-21 06:51:02

If this is funny I must have never had a sense of humour can’t bother with it any more amazed at such ‘famous’ people have accepted roles either desperate or seeing something I m not Lost on me I m afraid

Disappointed with it, some good actors but such a silly story line.

Who on earth would have a house built for them without apparently ever seeing it. Where were they supposed to be living while it was being built? No sign of her moving a houseful of stuff into the new one so is she still paying rent somewhere or paying off a mortgage? She seems to have no in come of her own. If her husband gave the house to his parents shouldn't they be having meetings with solicitors to sort this out? he must surely have signed some sort of agreement with them. Again who behaves like this? "Sorry dear, I've built you a lovely house, only it isn't yours because if I die it's going to my parents"

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 25-Jan-21 11:55:47

I quite enjoyed it and felt there were some funny lines. I'll stick with it to see how it progresses.

BigBertha1 Mon 25-Jan-21 11:18:27

I sort of liked it. The idea of the funeral at home is interesting although we have both decided on no funeral of any kind. Joanna Lumley is fabulous reminds of my sister- emotionally flat.

Funnygran Mon 25-Jan-21 10:12:07

We’ve watched 4 episodes so far and DH gave up in the middle of the last one. I’ll watch another while I’m ironing later but have to admit I’m losing interest a little. Wouldn’t watch a second series. I do like Keeley Hawes usually but am finding her character just a bit unbelievable.

eazybee Mon 25-Jan-21 10:05:23

I enjoyed every minute of last night's episode; very surreal, but with closely observed characters. I liked the little touches; Joanna Lumley's sharp looks at her granddaughter throughout the funeral, her reluctance to clap (I'm with her there, ghastly habit), the ebullient sister-in -law, the relationship between Gemma Jones and her bullying husband. the concern of the celebrant. The family's real grief came across strongly; the plot remains a mystery, but I love the acting.

Kandinsky Mon 25-Jan-21 09:41:21

I sometimes think these dramas would be better off having relatively unknown actors - actors who might give it a bit more wellie ( so to speak ) Joanna Lumley & Nigel Havers look like they’re just doing it to pay a bill & couldn’t care less really.
But I suppose they need the big names to draw people in.
Maybe the director is just not that great?
Massive waste of talent going on though.

Curlywhirly Mon 25-Jan-21 09:27:40

I read over the weekend that the shots of the house exterior are of an actual house in Farnham, but the inside shots are a mock-up in a studio - that would explain how those lethal stairs were allowed!

Puzzler61 Mon 25-Jan-21 09:02:11

I don’t find myself wanting to see the next episode with anticipation as the storyline is too slow.
I do want some curtains I can shout at “Curtains close”.
The rest of that strange house I’d be glad to leave.

sodapop Mon 25-Jan-21 09:01:08

The second episode was disappointing I thought, there is some promise in the ideas but they don't seem to come through on screen. I thought Havers and Lumley seemed very flat and one dimensional.

Shandy57 Mon 25-Jan-21 08:58:18

I watched all episodes waiting for it to get better, I won't watch a second series.

Kim19 Mon 25-Jan-21 08:50:18

Have to confess I'm struggling with it. So far from reality that I can't get my head round it. I know it is only fantasy and I usually liked to be stretched but I need a bit of something recognisable to bedrock on I guess. I will watch one more episode......
