Watched this on Netflix last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good cast and no swearing smile. Recommend.

We watched it too.
Very intersesting.
The true stories are often the best.

It’s definitely on our list - once we’ve finished the box set of Spiral series 1-6, which I gave to dh for Christmas. Looking forward to it.

I enjoyed it too . Looking forward to reading the book now written by Peggy’s nephew.

I watched it last night. Lovely gentle film.

Witzend - currently watching Spiral, only on series 1 though, got quite a bit to go.

Also really enjoyed this. Good cast, a true story and not a murder in sight.

Looking forward to watching The Dig.

I really enjoyed The Dig - beautiful filming. Bit sad to read in reviews that they’d diminished the role of the female archaeologist, Peggy, making her out to be ‘bumbling’, when apparently in reality she was very capable. They also had a young male photographer, whereas it had originally been two women. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be artistic license in films, but it seems a shame not to celebrate women’s achievements in those early days. Good film though.

Watched part of it last night and hoping to catch up today. I agree that it is gentle and interesting and makes a wonderful change from some of the in-your-face films that are around. But the nit is British! smile

I watched this a couple of days ago, and loved it. It is one of those films I could easily watch again.

Great film!
And, if we ever get normal life back, I can recommend a visit to Sutton Hoo, which is just amazing.

Ealdemodor Sun 31-Jan-21 15:27:02

Also, how I would have loved to see it at the cinema - one of the things I miss the most.

Lisagran Sun 31-Jan-21 15:29:16

Oh, how I agree, Ealdemodor, seeing a film at the cinema is such a different experience, isn’t it?

Such a lovely film, I am recommending it to everyone!

Such a lovely film, found that at the end my face seemed to have sprung a leak confused

Recommended it to everyone. Even our American friends in Florida, who loved it.

I must be the only person on GN who wasn’t overwhelmed by the film although it would probablh have been a better experience in the cinema. The romantic sub-plot with Lily Allen was a bit pointless? The back story of Edith Pretty and her involvement with Sutton Hoo proved much more interesting on investigation. She was 56 in real life when all this happened (having had her son at 47 and widowed four years later). She died only a few years after the dig in question took place.
Having said all that, it has inspired me to visit Sutton Hoo!

I loved this film and it seems many of us did as I think this is the 3rd thread on the subject!

Watched it yesterday with all the family ( in our bubble) Since lockdown we have looked for films that we can watch all together including 11 year old grandchildren . This for the bill brilliantly and we all enjoyed it. Lovely film . Was cross though Ralph Fiennes character didn’t get full recognition at the time, only much later

Dottynan Mon 01-Feb-21 14:55:34

I loved it and will probably watch it again

Juliet27 Mon 01-Feb-21 14:55:50

Ralph Fiennes character in it brought ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ to mind.
