Good to see the new series of this. Looks promising.

Nicola Walker looking as miserable as ever, but I don’t suppose she had a lot to look happy about really.

Several back stories going on behind the obvious suspects.

What would go in the no spoiler one, though?

Good point, trisher. They cold be setting it up for her to leave.

Well it will probably sort out her pension problem ?

That really made me laugh sw!

Iam64 I'm with you on this. That was exactly my thought process. Everything points to Ram being the murderer, which is precisely why I don't think it's him, because Unforgotten is well known for its twists and turns wink

I’ve been gardening, my brain sometimes thinks of things other than weeds. I suspect Liz. To achieve the rank she has takes huge confidence. She’s emotionally controlled but when she threatened her overbearing bully of a mother, she was frighteningly serious.

STORY SPOILER ALERT - Brain fog - can someone remind me how the police made the connection between the car with the body in the boot and the man whose has just died in the house (with a body in the freezer)? And how did the police know there had been a body in the boot (it was 30 years ago)? I think I must have dozed off, I just can't remember that bit!

They discovered that the man who had hidden the body in a freezer had been stopped and breathalysed on the same night that Matthew Walsh had last been seen alive. And it was in the same vicinity. They then discovered that Robert Fogerty (who'd been the drink driver) was a probationer who'd just passed out at Hendon that same day. They spoke to the PC who'd stopped him, who told them there'd been 4 other newly qualified cops in the car, and had their names. When they discovered they'd all been drinking in the Ifield pub and that one of the women had been sexually assaulted by Robert Fogerty, they started piecing it all together from there.

I did not see that coming for Cassie last night.
When she came out of the forensics Lab the Asian detective was lurking and for a few minutes I thought he was going to go into the forensics and try to get the pen. If he had done that then it would mean he knew about it and it would have incriminated him. I was wrong so now wonder if it was him who ran into Cassies car. Will have to wait until next week now.

I keep thinking about the fountain pen, too. It was clearly expensive so which of the rookie group back then came from a monied background?
Maybe Liz?

calandergirl and jane thanks for that I d obviously forgotten that part or maybe missed it out
I get it now ....amazing what you miss even when you think you ve watched it all

Unnecessary muse there d be no point in commenting on a ‘no comment allowed’ thread

JulieNoted I thought exactly the same as yourself- I did not think Cassie would make it back to the car in one piece. I do hope she did not die last night.

I kind of expected something to happen to Cassie last night. In fact I thought she was going to be jumped as she left the station, and stopped to look at her phone. Then I thought there'd be someone in her car - it only showed a close up of her at the wheel, so I wondered if someone was lurking in the back.

So, what a cliffhanger! I really hope this isn't how she leaves the series, that would be awful, but I somehow don't think that's what'll happen - she'll probably go on to solve the case from her hospital bed wink

Exactly that - I was on the edge of my seat from the moment she left the Forensics building.
Boy did I jump at the moment of impact!

I don’t think Cassie is married to her current partner is she? He works for a different police force and came in to the series 3 story to help with their investigation which originated in his area, the body was found in Cassie’s area. During series 3 they dated a few times but she ended it because of her mental health issues arising from the serial killer investigation. Right at the end Cassie and Sunny and John were taking flowers to the grave of the victim then at the beginning of this series John was in her house but seemed to go back to his work and they have been discussing buying a property together. Assuming Cassie isn’t dead the ending last night will probably escalate the relationship one way or the other.

Cabbie21 Tue 23-Mar-21 11:37:37

I really struggle to concentrate so it is useful to have reminders eg when some people mentioned the dramatic ending I couldn't recall it until more details were given.
I can't imagine that the lead character would die before the final episode.

Oldbat1 Tue 23-Mar-21 11:04:14

I wonder whose posh fountain pen it turns out to be? Very difficult to fall on a pen so must be deliberate murder. Last night I did jump at the ending.

Who do you mean by Cassie and her boyfriend calandergirl Cassie s married isn’t she and her husband working away from the area ?

She only met him last series, and I just assumed they weren’t married. I know he got a new job offer, which is why I thought they were planning on buying a property together and moving away, which is why her pension is important, and also why she wants the house issue resolving with her dad.

Or maybe I have got the wrong end of the stick, not unknown!

I do wish there could be two threads for a TV programme. A dedicated one with no spoilers and another for general discussion/comments with references to what has happened.

trisher Tue 23-Mar-21 10:27:34

People used to put "Spoiler Alert" at the top of their posts if they wanted to discuss something of significance.. I'm wondering if Nicola Walker is leaving and the series will go on without her, so this is a chance for the team to solve it all without her?

BlueBelle Tue 23-Mar-21 10:27:18

In my opinion as I said before it s up to the person who hasn’t watched the programme to NOT come on a thread about the programme not for us to tiptoe round talking in riddles to worry about giving the game away
Non watchers have to take responsibility not other way round

Surely Cassie can’t be dead programme would die too it’s got to be a pretty high risk taker to purposely do that Ram is definitely the obvious choice but is it too obvious ? Can’t wait for next week now seems a long way off

Jane43 Tue 23-Mar-21 10:04:28

I was talking to my daughter-in-law last night after the episode and we both thought Ram was the obvious suspect but will it be the obvious one? In her interview with Cassie the lady who previously backed out of her top job offer was so dispassionate it could be her, she has a pretty miserable home life but she is planning a wedding, perhaps she doesn’t want her future spouse to know about her past. Then again one of them could have hired a hit man, the rich one possibly, he does have some dubious connections.

On another point, if something has been aired and I haven't watched it I don’t look at discussions about it until I have. The definition of a spoiler seems to be changing from not discussing anything that hasn’t yet been broadcast to not discussing anything at all in case somebody hasn’t watched it yet which is odd.

Calendargirl Tue 23-Mar-21 09:25:40

I posted earlier in this thread that I thought Cassie and her boyfriend would not have a happy ending together.

I hope I’m wrong, and a bad accident isn’t the reason.

Doodledog Tue 23-Mar-21 09:15:02

tanith

?

You can't seriously be rolling your eyes at a spoiler? After you've clicked on a thread about the programme and there have been numerous posts saying that people are going to reveal details of last night's episode?

I think there is going to be more than the training college that links the suspects (apart from The Incident, that is). Someone obviously knew that Cassie was spilling details, unless the murderer is going to try to bump them all off, or they were all in it together, Murder on the Orient Express style.
