Good to see the new series of this. Looks promising.

Nicola Walker looking as miserable as ever, but I don’t suppose she had a lot to look happy about really.

Several back stories going on behind the obvious suspects.

I've just finished binge-watching it. No spoilers but I will just say I thought it was terrific - terrific acting, terrific storyline - really recommend it.

I think where separate threads would be helpful would be if we had one titled say Unforgotten Series Six with Spoilers and Unforgotten Series Six No Spoilers Please. for those who like to watch week-by-week.

I see I am not alone in having binge-watched this but it's hard to discuss in any detail until the whole series had aired.

Sparklefizz Wed 12-Feb-25 11:03:30

I'm enjoying it. A good strong drama.

merlotgran Wed 12-Feb-25 10:21:08

I love it and only have the last episode left to watch.

Calendargirl Wed 12-Feb-25 07:16:18

That’s my fault BlueBelle, carrying on the old thread, but I thought it was a bit pointless starting a new one.

I find it interesting picking up old comments.

I just start reading from the latest dates to see what others think about it.

BlueBelle Wed 12-Feb-25 07:02:34

Probably just me but I wish we could have a new thread about this series instead of a continuation of a very old one as I keep getting muddled up and reading old bits before I find the beginning of this new one ok just me!!

I certainly wouldn’t have recognised the boys mother as Michelle Doltrice but I think the young man is playing an excellent part as an autistic adult

I was thrilled to see this return, I love the complex plots and red herrings; I thought it would not be the same without Nicola Walker but her replacement is growing on me. I agree that there are a lot of different threads and characters to the story but I can't wait to see episode 3.

I loved Sunny's "Nah!" story, the way he told it! He's such a good actor.

Allira Tue 11-Feb-25 16:24:58

Probably we should do that Calendargirl, I don't know why we never did watch it.

ferry23 Tue 11-Feb-25 16:22:18

Nicola Walker was always going to be a hard act to follow so I wonder if Sinead Keenan deliberately steered the role the other way. She's a great actress herself - played the Mother in Little Boy Blue wonderfully.

I think once they both opened up to each other in the last series their relationship has definitely softened and I'm enjoying her in it.

SilverBrook Tue 11-Feb-25 13:11:10

This is series six and there is a progression. I think it helps to watch the earlier series to become familar with the format; several different characters whose lives have all been linked in some way in the past but it can take up to six episodes to figure out how. Some big names in those early ones.

I was irritated a tad with series five, neither Jesse nor Sunny on top form as both had personal problems plus Cassie left big shoes to fill, but I took to Jesse more once she and Sunny reset. For me, he is the consistent, steady, beating heart of the series.

Jesse has a different style to Cassie but I think it was important not to have a carbon copy. Also, I think her slightly abrasive style contrasts well with Sunny’s much quieter calmer approach.

We were gripped from the first episode. So much so, we sat up until 12 midnight last night watching all the episodes. In a way a predictable ending but it was very gripping. I like the new lady, I think she is good in the part. No she’s not like Nicola Walker but maybe she doesn’t need to be. It’s more believable than the woman replacement in Shetland I think. A really good programme but probably got to wait again until next year for a new series now. I like the multi layered character approach.

Calendargirl Tue 11-Feb-25 12:34:53

You should probably watch the old series first Allira, to get into the ‘feel’ of the programme.

Nicola Walker was the original DI and was much missed when she left.

The new Irish one is growing on me, but not the same. Always comes across as hard, unlike Nicola who did an excellent job, but seemed much more empathetic with both her team and the families she dealt with.

But some good plots, need a bit of following though.

NanKate

Did any of you recognise Michelle Dotrice (Some mothers do have ‘um’) the bedridden mother of the lad with mental health issues?

They made her look so old. She was married to Edward Woodward. She lived in Stratford upon Avon in her teens, as I did. Her father was a famous Shakespearean actor Roy Dotrice.

Enough of my teenage memories.

I was trying to work out who she was, NanKate and couldn't, so thank you.

We'd never watched the previous series and found this one confusing, mumbly and wondered if we might not bother to watch any more. Don't like the main woman detective at all.

Please tell me it might be worth persevering!

This is one of my favourite series on TV. I binge-watched the latest to the end into the early hours of this morning.

As always, I enjoyed the way the team work together and finally get to the truth through meticulous investigation, but this story was too heavy on issues.

Without giving anything away, the ending was too similar to a case Sunny had investigated with Cassie and not altogether plausible but it didn’t detract from the clever way the stories of the various characters are interwoven.

Clawdy Tue 11-Feb-25 08:35:13

She looks too old to be the mother of the autistic boy.

NanKate Tue 11-Feb-25 08:32:08

She is 76.

Calendargirl Tue 11-Feb-25 08:22:55

Michelle Dotrice was also in ‘The Cockfields’ playing the part of Lyn, the friend of Sue who enjoyed a glass or two of wine.

She seems to have replaced Maggie Steed, who played her in the first series.

Yes, she does look older, but then she probably is in her 70’s (haven’t looked it up though).

Litterpicker Mon 10-Feb-25 23:31:03

Saw Michelle Dotrice in the cast list, NanKate - I wouldn’t have recognised her.
The plot is quite complicated, jumping around from London to Cork and back to Deal. I don’t like the way the autistic character’s story is heading. There do seem to be a lot of current ‘issues’ in UK society and politics all bundled into the various storylines - asylum seekers, deficits in resources in mental health services and social care, Albanian gangsters, ‘wokeism’ among students, media pandering to the right wing, Incels. It’s more exhausting than reading Gransnet 😂

I ve started it I don’t take to the new ‘Nicola Walker’ so much yet, hopefully she ll grow on me, don’t think the togetherness is there yet.
Promising though

Kim19 Mon 10-Feb-25 14:41:32

Yes I enjoyed it. Warming to the new lead lady. She is very astute. Nicola Waker will always be a hard act to follow imo.

Calendargirl Mon 10-Feb-25 10:21:09

Reviving the old ‘Unforgotten’ thread.

Thought the first episode of the latest series looked promising.

As usual, lots of new characters and plot lines, but no doubt will become clearer as time goes on.

Certainly recognised the chap at the end, it’s good when they bring in old story lines to see how they progress.

Clawdy Tue 28-Mar-23 19:42:14

Enjoying it, but wow, last night's was complicated! So much to take in.

Pittcity Sun 05-Mar-23 11:12:59

Just finished the latest series and had to listen with headphones as some of the dialogue wasn't clear. I really enjoyed it although I guessed some of the twists.
Lots of familiar actors to spot.
I don't think I'll be using ITVX much in future though as it is very stop/start on my TV. Probably stick to recording and fast forward through the ads.
