Yes - finally. About to start tonight. 7 episodes. This is in my top three of great crime drama series. The Bridge is second with Shetland third.

The phone will be on silent and MrM had better not interrupt my pleasure. I think he's tempted to watch it though.

Jed Mercurio never ceases to come up with a great story line. Series 3 was probably be best so far for me.

Very much like real life all swept under the carpet and the powerful get away with murder, or abuse, or violence, it hardly inspires confidence in authority.

Whitewave I agree with you. Watching this episode last night, the similarities with the Post Office disgrace kept creeping into my thoughts - was that due to incompetence? cover ups (i.e. corruption)? (e.g. it was known the IT programme was full of bugs) and definitely, power.

Just remember, should you end up in prison, to make an almighty fuss if they suggest moving you to another jail. Await the armed response team and duck.

The best and most gripping last episode of LOD was when Dot Cottan got shot, and Kate was doing all that racing around, jumping on and off vehicles (I think, can’t recall exactly).

Was it series 3?

Now that was exciting!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 03-May-21 07:46:41

I think that the take away from this is that the powerful always seem to win

Whitewavemark2 Mon 03-May-21 07:38:31

I do wonder if Hastings is going to be pensioned off though which is a shame.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 03-May-21 07:37:55

Yes I think it has definitely ? left us hanging.

Buckles is too young to be her father.

He isn’t H - bet a dollar on it.

Well, still, as others have said, unanswered questions..for one, who falsified the signatures on Jo’s prison transfer for assessment? I watched the last 10 minutes in trepidation.

Liked to look of Vigil in the trailer afterwards.

Rather a damp squib from a very much over-hyped series.
I remember noticing the miss-spelling of definitely, but absolutely no idea when or where, or even which series.

annodomini Sun 02-May-21 23:25:35

The best thing to come out of that episode was that now most people know how to spell definitely. grin

Shinamae Sun 02-May-21 23:24:49

Really?

Chestnut Sun 02-May-21 23:22:38

I think whatever had happened in the final episode people would have been disappointed because of all the hype and expectation of something grand and mind-blowing. I thought it wound down quite nicely and revealing Buckells as H was totally unexpected. I'll bet no-one got that right out of all the hundreds of thousands of dedicated fans! So that was the final twist which gave us all a surprise at the end.
I think it has been left open for another series, but I hope not as I think it has had its day now.

Such a let down but open to another series.
A lot of hype with no answer.
Buckles was too young to have organised all that from years ago.

Buckles was one of four H so was not the only one to organise things from years ago. They have been picked off one by one and whittled down until he is the last man standing. He may have acquired more power over the years every time another H was caught. And become more cunning in hiding his identity.

dogsmother Sun 02-May-21 22:49:30

Yes, bit flat.

hulahoop Sun 02-May-21 22:48:01

Very let down after huge build up
maybe another series is in the pipeline

suziewoozie Sun 02-May-21 22:46:03

I am SO going to watch that episode again tomorrow

I thought that (as well as ramming home the message about the importance of truth in high office) it was saying that corruption can be disguised as incompetence and people won't notice.

Oh no surely the opposite - incompetence disguised as corruption ( and somehow that scares me more)

NanKate Sun 02-May-21 22:44:19

Kate’s hair style was fab.

NanKate Sun 02-May-21 22:42:40

I wanted Carmichael to be H or whatever the baddie was called. She played a blinder in that part.

Another disappointed viewer here. ?

I'm in the minority.I still found it very tense. And more believable. Basically several police officers have risen through the ranks over the years whilst being corrupt with Buckles the latest and last to be uncovered and yet still the public remain unaware of the extent.Carmichael follows Osborne lead. OCGs probably don't operate under one head guy but splinter off relying on the likes of Buckles and taking out those who threaten their identities and operations.
And I'm glad Hastings remained,Kate and Steve weren't bent did were there for each other.Still think its been one of the best things on TV in recent years.

Maggiemaybe Sun 02-May-21 22:37:13

Well I enjoyed it! Either I’m easily pleased or the G & Ts have blunted my critical faculties (easier to type than to say when you’ve had a couple). I was glad to see the three of them leaving in that lift safe and sound at the end. Though a bit concerned that there might be an armed OCG unit waiting on the ground floor.

Emily49 Sun 02-May-21 22:35:25

Oops, missed my own comment there, susiewoozie. I was going to say I agree with you, in thinking I needed to ponder it more, maybe it was deliberately flat for a reason. Though, on reflection, I think generally organised crime and corruption is just that - organised. Tight, professional, not bumbling and full of holes

Well I need to have a good think about this. I was really disappointed snd then began to think it was saying something really profound about the state of Britain ( not just the police). That what in a way we hope is organised well though out masterminded corruption is just sheer half arsed banal incompetence by a bunch of bumbling no hopers that have and will continue to fool us into thinking they are so much more than they are snd thus will continue to have powerf over us ( and breathe) Well it’s either that or I’ve wasted the last decade of my life ??

Just a thought that popped into my head
