Surprised that nothing up to date on this soap with such a current dramatic story line and some of the best acting I have ever seen on a soap.
Roy's soliliqy at the beside of Nina deserves an award of its own. Absoilutely brilliant. I am not someone who usually gets emotional with Soap stories, but was in tears with him on that, and also some excellent acting by the younger cast members.
Sorry that we have lost the lovely Seb, and what was looking like to being a wonderful relationship with Nina. But this is really an excellent, well-scripted story line, and whereas all us watching it know who was the ringleader of the assault, do wonder how long it is going to be before Corey is brought to proper justice.

Didn’t realise until I read it the other day that the girl who plays Hope is, in real life, sister to the little boy who plays Joseph, Chesney’s son.

They do look alike once you know.

And an older sister is in Emmerdale, but I don’t watch that.

A future family of Redgraves!

Maureen Lipman has some good lines, as does Mary, Dev, Sally and Tim and now George the Undertaker, so the humour is still there which I like. Haven't got time for Billy-Paul-Todd triangle or Gemma and the quads who must look after themselves.

I stopped watching Corrie a couple of years ago now, after being a faithful watcher for many years. After reading the comments on this thread I am tempted to return - it was the relentless dramatic (slightly unbelievable) storylines that began to annoy me and the lack of humourous characters, which used to be so enjoyable. Has anything changed in that respect ? - please tell me before I commit again.

The same with me, although must say I’m not still not really that tempted to return.

She is indeed very good Sarnia I agree with you about Corrie having bucked up recently. Making more use of Ryan as well, he has some good facial expressions.

Sarnia Thu 05-Aug-21 20:00:33

Corrie has bucked up a bit recently. Todd getting his comeuppance and will Fizz find Emily Brontosaurus and put two and two together about the fire? The little girl who plays Hope is very good, not only with the way she delivers her lines but the looks she gives people.

I agree with everything you have said, but I still don’t see why they should be ‘token’ because they are black. Their blackness hasn’t contributed to the rubbish storylines, or their acting, or anything else, as far as I can see.

Sometimes families just don’t’gel’ in soaps, and I think this is what’s happening here. The chemistry between the actors just doesn’t work, and their storylines are either daft or forgettable. I don’t think their race is relevant to any of that.

Would any black family in a soap set in a multi-racial area be ‘token’ ? If so, why is that?

I agree that the Bailey family hasn't gelled, and the actors are pretty bad, but what makes people think that they are a 'token' black family?

Because that’s how it comes across,

There hasn’t been a black family in the history of Corrie, at least I don’t think so. Various single actors, but not a whole family.

It is a welcome addition, if only any of them could act. If they could, they would fit in as another Corrie family, and the token bit wouldn’t arise.

They are all hopeless, Ed, Michael, but especially Nurse Aggie.

They just don’t gel as a family somehow.

Ronnie is so much better away from them, and not wearing that white cap.

Oh yes there is two I started the other one I thought it had got a bit short ???

I rather like ‘uncle Ronnie’ calendargirl he has a nice smile and is more pleasing on the eye than old greasy Johnny
Never really believed that coupling, Jennie and Johnny seemed highly unreal as a couple to me
I can’t imagine where dopey Nick got that boy wonder from its hard to think he came from his loins ?

There seems to be two ‘Corrie’ threads at the moment, I posted on the other one that Ronnie has grown on me and I hope he helps Jenny run the Rovers.

He seems much better away from his dreadful ‘can’t act’ screen family.

Luckylegs Sat 03-Jul-21 19:01:17

I think the whole Bailey family are wooden as actors. It’s a shame, they were brought in as a token black family but they are all completely wooden!

dogsmother Sat 03-Jul-21 18:53:35

I don’t think the actor who plays the footballer is as poor as the one who plays brother and his mother, think are both poor, irritatingly poor. I also agree the uncle would be a much likelier match for Jennie than Johnny.

Just watching Gail in hospital with her mum sat by her side ! That’s very Poor when thousands have died unable to have their loved ones with them . My mum was in our local hospital last week I was unable to go with her in the ambulance or visit. Keep up Corrie.

The recent episodes dealing with Weatherfield County FC having a gay player have been spoilt for me by Nathan Graham's acting. Was he really the best at auditions?

Lucca Sat 15-May-21 10:32:32

Aveline

Oh no! Just too 'woke'!

Why is it woke ? I’m confused

Aveline Sat 15-May-21 10:29:18

Calendargirl Sat 15-May-21 10:28:18

Oh no!

Have just seen that the Rovers is to be sold in the summer.

Pleeessseee don’t let the dreadful Uncle Ronnie be the new landlord!

shock

I think the older characters were offscreen because of Covid restrictions.

I agree that this storyline has been excellent - both the writing and acting. I'm less keen on the one with Rita's ex foster-daughter trying to flush out Leanne and Simon. After Kevin's sister Debbie as arch-baddie we could do with some more positive new female characters.

I think that Peter's storyline is being handled well, too. I don't like soaps showing people with alcoholism either get offered a transplant and go back to normal immediately, like Phil in Eastenders, or go to three AA meetings and put it all behind them, as Linda seems to have done. I think it gives the wrong message to heavy drinkers, and might encourage them to continue, thinking that when they have over-stepped the line it can all be turned around, when it often can't.

I think in real life, Maureen Lipman’s partner died, hence some time off,

BlueBelle Fri 14-May-21 19:02:21

I like Corrie more now than in the old days and it’s certainly done a blinder this time I too hope it isn’t strung out too long as sometimes they lose me when the storyline goes on for ever Agree wholeheartedly about all the Bailey family awful storylines around them and such wooden acting
Where was Evelyn she didn’t go off with the chap did she ? Glad she’s back

Franbern Fri 14-May-21 18:45:45

Obviouslywith such a dramatic snd tragic story line dominating at the moment, there is not much comedy. However, Yes - this is usually part of Corrie. Reason I started to follow this Soap and stopped watching Enders many years ago.
Some lovely comic characters and actors - Mary, Steve often provide those wonderful lighthearted moments which we can all enjoy.

timetogo2016 Fri 14-May-21 12:43:32

I have only just started watching corrie within the last 4/5 months.
David Nielson has been in Corrie for years,as i`m sure you all know,he is without doubt one of the best actors on the show.
He deserves the best actor soap awards i m o.
Dh and i are watching the old corries from the 90`s when Jack and Vera werein it,so funny.
The two story lines at the moment are brilliant and the acting is too unlike Les Battersby, god he was s..t

vegansrock Fri 14-May-21 12:31:38

There have been some dire storylines recently - Nick/ Leanne, Johnny/ Jenny yawn, but this one has been gripping. I’m gladMaureen Lipman is back too. Alina would never fancy Tyrone.

Ashcombe Fri 14-May-21 12:17:08

I agree with Purplepixie about Classic Coronation Street which has believable plot lines, humour and is well scripted with an understanding of the characters. A few months ago, I almost gave up on the current Coronation Street but I’m glad I didn't as the current story is being well handled.
