Surprised that nothing up to date on this soap with such a current dramatic story line and some of the best acting I have ever seen on a soap.
Roy's soliliqy at the beside of Nina deserves an award of its own. Absoilutely brilliant. I am not someone who usually gets emotional with Soap stories, but was in tears with him on that, and also some excellent acting by the younger cast members.
Sorry that we have lost the lovely Seb, and what was looking like to being a wonderful relationship with Nina. But this is really an excellent, well-scripted story line, and whereas all us watching it know who was the ringleader of the assault, do wonder how long it is going to be before Corey is brought to proper justice.

I agree Franbern David Nielson was so good and not overly dramatic. I have just been watching him in a very early episode of Heartbeat in a similar role.
It's an excellent story line, I read that the Corey actor feels he is the most hated man in Manchester.

I think it’s been done excellently and I d like to congratulate Abi on some fine acting ....when she was literally howling with sorrow it was so real I was crying with her
It’s been very very well handled
Well done Corrie

Ilovecheese Thu 13-May-21 16:24:57

Not just that story either, the Fiz and Tyrone story has been really well done by those two.

Sarnia Thu 13-May-21 16:26:01

This storyline was to echo the murder of Sophie Lancaster some years ago. Sophie who dressed as a Goth, I believe, was in a local park with her boyfriend and was set upon by a group of boys. I agree with Franbern that the acting has been very good. I read that the young actor who plays Corey was out in Manchester when a small group approached him and he thought that it might mean trouble. Instead they congratulated him on his acting performance. A bit different to the actor who plays Tyrone being accosted in his local supermarket by a very belligerent lady who gave him what for over his treatment of Fizz and the girls. grin

There have been, in recent years, truly award winning story lines, and acting coming from Corrie . This most recent one involving Seb, Nina and Abi makes it difficult to believe it was 'acting' and will give the writers and producers a difficult task and surely make 'a hard act to follow'.

soop Thu 13-May-21 17:21:23

I wholeheartedly agree with your post, Franbern.

Franbern Fri 14-May-21 11:42:27

I understand that Sophie Lancaster's mother has been involved with the Corrie script writers on this. She feels it has helped a little towards some sort of closure.
When Abi fell to the ground when first learning of Seb's death, I was virtually in tears myself and I am not one that usually gets so emotional with Soaps. (Just brought back memories of learning - 20 years ago - of the death of my youngest when he was 25 years of age).

FInd it hard to understand that people cannot differentiate between actors and the roles they are portraying.

Do hope that this story line is not dragged out too long, and that it - the writing, direction and the acting is recognised in awards.

Yes it has been good.
Shame the Bailey family can’t take some acting lessons from the rest of the cast and of course it’s way too late for Gail .....

JaneJudge Fri 14-May-21 11:45:57

I'm sorry you've lost your son Franbern sad I don't think anyone truly understands how awful it is to lose someone so young in your family, especially your own child. I agree it is being acted brilliantly

grin poor Gail. I always remember that episode where her and her Mother (?) are walking in the peak district swinging their arms. I think it ended up on Harry Hill's TV burp

I stopped watching Corrie a couple of years ago now, after being a faithful watcher for many years. After reading the comments on this thread I am tempted to return - it was the relentless dramatic (slightly unbelievable) storylines that began to annoy me and the lack of humourous characters, which used to be so enjoyable. Has anything changed in that respect ? - please tell me before I commit again.

Calendargirl Fri 14-May-21 11:59:48

And yet, after Aidan’s suicide, Gail stood at her window looking out over the street she had ‘lived in for nigh on 40 years’, and gave an equally heartfelt monologue, saying how one never knew what was going on in other people’s lives, although we think we do.

Thank goodness for some better story lines and acting, as Corrie can be awful. I agree, the whole Bailey family are excruciating. Hope Ed stays with awful Aggie in Birmingham.

Purplepixie Fri 14-May-21 11:59:53

I gave up on Coronation Street years ago. I think it was around the time when Michelle Keegan’s character in the soap was killed off. These days I watch Classic Coronation Street which is so much more fun. Back in the Days when Jack and Vera had the Rovers Return. It is such good fun and much better viewing than todays Coronation Street.

Aveline Fri 14-May-21 12:10:03

I agree with the OP. This has been excellent writing and acting. I, too, hope its not dragged out too long but suspect they'll not be able to resist running on and on with it.
The Tyrone story isn't very credible really. Silly boy! Evelyn will soon sort him out.

Ashcombe Fri 14-May-21 12:17:08

I agree with Purplepixie about Classic Coronation Street which has believable plot lines, humour and is well scripted with an understanding of the characters. A few months ago, I almost gave up on the current Coronation Street but I’m glad I didn't as the current story is being well handled.

vegansrock Fri 14-May-21 12:31:38

There have been some dire storylines recently - Nick/ Leanne, Johnny/ Jenny yawn, but this one has been gripping. I’m gladMaureen Lipman is back too. Alina would never fancy Tyrone.

timetogo2016 Fri 14-May-21 12:43:32

I have only just started watching corrie within the last 4/5 months.
David Nielson has been in Corrie for years,as i`m sure you all know,he is without doubt one of the best actors on the show.
He deserves the best actor soap awards i m o.
Dh and i are watching the old corries from the 90`s when Jack and Vera werein it,so funny.
The two story lines at the moment are brilliant and the acting is too unlike Les Battersby, god he was s..t

Franbern Fri 14-May-21 18:45:45

Obviouslywith such a dramatic snd tragic story line dominating at the moment, there is not much comedy. However, Yes - this is usually part of Corrie. Reason I started to follow this Soap and stopped watching Enders many years ago.
Some lovely comic characters and actors - Mary, Steve often provide those wonderful lighthearted moments which we can all enjoy.

BlueBelle Fri 14-May-21 19:02:21

I like Corrie more now than in the old days and it’s certainly done a blinder this time I too hope it isn’t strung out too long as sometimes they lose me when the storyline goes on for ever Agree wholeheartedly about all the Bailey family awful storylines around them and such wooden acting
Where was Evelyn she didn’t go off with the chap did she ? Glad she’s back

Calendargirl Fri 14-May-21 19:30:15

BlueBelle

I think in real life, Maureen Lipman’s partner died, hence some time off,

Doodledog Fri 14-May-21 20:19:02

I think the older characters were offscreen because of Covid restrictions.

I agree that this storyline has been excellent - both the writing and acting. I'm less keen on the one with Rita's ex foster-daughter trying to flush out Leanne and Simon. After Kevin's sister Debbie as arch-baddie we could do with some more positive new female characters.

I think that Peter's storyline is being handled well, too. I don't like soaps showing people with alcoholism either get offered a transplant and go back to normal immediately, like Phil in Eastenders, or go to three AA meetings and put it all behind them, as Linda seems to have done. I think it gives the wrong message to heavy drinkers, and might encourage them to continue, thinking that when they have over-stepped the line it can all be turned around, when it often can't.

Calendargirl Sat 15-May-21 10:28:18

Oh no!

Have just seen that the Rovers is to be sold in the summer.

Pleeessseee don’t let the dreadful Uncle Ronnie be the new landlord!
