Retiring gracefully from the dance floor competition, hopefully!

My dear late Mother and her chums loved him to bits -

That's good. He was brilliant as a stand in judge last year, so knowledgeable but also so encouraging to the dancers.

Blinko Thu 24-Jun-21 14:37:11

That's great. He knows his stuff and will be a popular appointment.

greenlady102 Thu 24-Jun-21 14:38:11

so far its for this year only as Bruno is still stuck in the US

NanKate Thu 24-Jun-21 14:47:16

About time too. ?

I hope they get rid of the two awful female presenters who I know are very popular with some, but not me. I switch off the sound when they are on.

Ellianne Thu 24-Jun-21 14:59:45

Yes, I would prefer Darcey Bussell as a replacement NanKate.

Anton is a good dancer but I am not keen on him and when he was a stand-in judge before, he didn't give any constructive criticism at all, and liked everything - possibly because he knew he would have to be back with his fellow dancers in the future.

If he is only going to stand in for Bruno temporarily, I suppose he will have the same attitude.

I don't mind the female judges. They do know their stuff - unlike Alesha Dixon who was on the panel one year. Shirley Ballas has apparently not been at all well since having Covid months ago. It would be great if Arlene Phillips could be reinstated. She should never have gone.

TrendyNannie6 Thu 24-Jun-21 15:06:44

I’d love Arlene Phillips to be reinstated as judge, I’m also pleased that Anton is back

Calendargirl Thu 24-Jun-21 15:47:31

Anton is getting too old for all the energetic dances. He looks like the grandad amongst all the young lads.

Last year was better without Bruno’s posturing and blatant attention grabbing. Craig was much more relaxed without him there.

Anton needs to toughen up, he was far too nice when he was a guest judge. You don’t have to be horrible, just honest and sensible feedback is what’s required, not trying to be everyone’s best mate.

Millie22 Thu 24-Jun-21 15:49:24

Yippee ... at last.

luluaugust Thu 24-Jun-21 16:22:29

Yes at last

eazybee Thu 24-Jun-21 17:39:19

Oh good; he is very knowledgeable and experienced, although I am sorry Bruno is going.
I have just remembered I vowed not to watch it again if that dreadful Motsi Obuse is still a judge; all the screaming and shouting and sashaying across the floor looking like a badly wrapped parcel. Her sister should not be on it as long as she is remains a judge.

Deedaa Thu 24-Jun-21 20:21:08

I wonder who will be landed with the rubbish partner this year!

Hellogirl1 Thu 24-Jun-21 22:24:15

I look forward to seeing Anton as a judge again, but also will miss him dreadfully on the dance floor. I`ve just started reading his 3rd book, which my daughter bought for me today, she bought me the other 2 as well.

Bixiboo Thu 24-Jun-21 22:32:18

My thoughts too Deedaa. Suspect it might be Johannes but hope not as he comes across as a lovely young man.

Charleygirl5 Thu 24-Jun-21 22:38:24

Anybody but Bruno leaping around to grab attention.
I am delighted it will be Anton.

NotSpaghetti Fri 25-Jun-21 01:16:44

Anton wasn't good as a stand-in.
I felt he added nothing.
Craig was more relaxed though as others have said.

DanniRae Fri 25-Jun-21 07:34:08

I really didn't like the idea of Anton being a judge until he stepped in for Motsi last year and I thought he did a good job. The fact that it means that Bruno isn't on the panel makes it extra good and I hope it is permanent!

henetha Fri 25-Jun-21 10:26:11

I like Anton whether he's dancing or being a judge. He seems like a really nice person to me. So good luck to him.

NotSpaghetti Fri 25-Jun-21 10:59:38

I’m sorry, I really don’t warm to him and don’t feel he made a good stand-in. I’m disappointed he’s going to be on the panel.

Grandmadinosaur Fri 25-Jun-21 20:51:03

I wasn’t a fan of Anton on the dance floor but I enjoyed his stint as a judge so I’m looking forward to him doing a full series.
I also wondered who will get the “ older” female partner now.

NotTooOld Fri 25-Jun-21 21:39:45

He seems like a really nice man so I am glad he's got the job.. I thought he might replace Bruce Forsyth as I think they were quite alike. I would actually prefer Anton to be the presenter and then they could get rid of either Tess Daly or the other annoying one with the fringe. And bring back Arlene Phillips and Darcy Bussel, too. I don't know whether I am entitled to an opinion really as I have not watched Strictly for the last two years. It has got much too shouty for me.

polnan Sat 26-Jun-21 10:36:25

I really like Anton, he is a "nice" person
I love his books, though haven`t bought the Christmas one, as I am not into Christmas stuff, though I think I will get it, cos I like the way he writes

He is a good person, encouraging, anyone can swipe!

Aepgirl Sat 26-Jun-21 10:49:20

Really pleased for Anton. He’s done it before, he once co-hosted with Brucie, and has proved he’s up to the job.

Theoddbird Sat 26-Jun-21 10:49:30

I am so pleased for him. He was brilliant when he did a couple of episodes last season. I love the prog and he is a brilliant dancer. He has had some awful partners though.
