Ok, am I the only one who hates tennis?

Wimbledon bores me rigid. The gasping and grunting with every shot really grinds my gears. I have never really been into spectator sports but sitting there for hours at Wimbledon watching a ball go back and forth, back and forth, and then if it rains there is a risk that Cliff Richard will get to his feet and sing shock No thanks. It is the sheer tedium of it

I don’t enjoy watching sport and fortunately neither does DH.

Our son in law is an avid football and rugby fan as is our 4 year old granddaughter!

Barmeyoldbat Thu 01-Jul-21 17:07:23

Hate it. the only sports I enjoy watching are Wale playing rugby or the highlights of the Tour De France.

Harmonypuss Thu 01-Jul-21 16:31:27

I hate sport of all varieties.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that sports should not be jobs, if someone wants to exercise by paying tennis or football for example, they should hold down a proper job and exercise in their spare time!

As a teenager we used to ball girl at Queens Club. I ball girdled for Mark Cox and friend did the Virginia Wade, whist we were able to watch. Once or twice friends and I went into Wimbledon and were given some centre court tickets late in the day. I used to watch the tennis every year.

These days I just fine most sport very tedious from footy to tennis, rugby, Olympics. I’ll watch snooker for a bit but only the last frame. The same applies to Strictly. I just watch the final stages when I’ve nothing better to do.

DH is another story but as we’ve been without football etc for a long time, he gets to watch it on the TV.

I’m feeling rather cross that the BBC have very little other than sport on at the moment and lots of repeats.

Wimbledon I can take or leave. I even went one year when I was at college, in the time of Bjorn Borg.
It rained. But the thrill of having Bjorn walk past as they were restarting play - just as we were leaving!
(Let's just say, he looked better in photos than in real life!!)
Cricket - would rather watch paint dry! Having lived in Australia and having it forced on me every summer was enough to put me off (In the winter it was Aussie Rules)

I have absolutely no interest in any kind of sport and what infuriates me is that even though I pay my licence fee like everyone else my interests are not really catered for. I haven’t seen a decent newish release film on terrestrial tv for ages. Thank goodness for Netflix and Prime!

I quite like tennis, but so far havent seen a match at Wimbledon, its far better than football.I am not really interested in sport but so pleased England won against Germany the other evening.

Must be a pain if you do hate/dislike Tennis or Football at the moment - but I lOVE it.
I don't follow football normally but when it comes to 'world' events like these you get the top players and it's great.
I dislike Rugby; Golf and Snooker I find boring, but cannot see why you would find top players in Tennis and football boring. I actually used to feel that way about football until one year away from home at a sales exhibition I wondered what all the commotion around the TV was and went over to see - I ended up cheering with the crowd and now watch the World cup and some Euros - and enjoy the matches (tho I still don't understand the 'offside' rule properly!). - TRY actually watching it - you might change your mind. PS: Murray is back after years out of it - he's doing well so far - he won't win, but marvellous to see him back.

Wimbledon comes but once a year and you don't have to watch it. I hate football!

leeds22 Thu 01-Jul-21 15:32:32

I was a mad tennis player & fan until I was 30. Gave up playing tennis (children came along) and just stopped watching it on TV. Why BBC think its acceptable to put it on BBC1 & 2 is beyond me. Still, its better than football.

Copes283 Thu 01-Jul-21 15:20:46

Lucca - Yvonne Goolagong ... she WAS a tennis player wasn't she?!!! Sorry, I too don't take much interest whereas my 87yr old DM loves it and would be playing herself, even now, if she was able!! Each to their own I suppose!

Subi Thu 01-Jul-21 15:11:56

I find it boring, but apart from Rugby I find all sport boring!

katy1950 Thu 01-Jul-21 14:40:53

Me too can't stand it all those celebrities who go just to get their pictures in the media the players who act like divas no thanks I'd rather watch paint dry

polly123 Thu 01-Jul-21 14:36:01

Tennis is seriously boring and takes up far too much time with people seemingly endlessly droning on about it. Fortunately no one in our house is interested in it.

Grandma70s Thu 01-Jul-21 14:32:53

It’s the only game where I know the rules, so I suppose that’s why I find it rather less boring than other sports. We were forced to play tennis at school.

handbaghoarder Thu 01-Jul-21 14:31:12

No interest here at all. In fact most sport bores me to death. To each his own. DH loves it all so we watch separate TVs and no arguments over who controls the remote.

coastalgran Thu 01-Jul-21 14:28:55

Not really interested in tennis. It took Andy Murray 4 hours to beat his opponent yesterday. I have too low a boredom threshold for that sort of thing. Never really liked Cliff Richard either and the photos of that poor female scientist involved in the Covid vaccination work that was there to watch tennis, not be subjected to a standing ovation. She looked really put out. The journalist Matthew Syed said "Pigeons are the tennis players of the bird world." I get his point.

Elvis58 Thu 01-Jul-21 14:20:42

I love it! much preferable to the endless boring football which l loathe!

AlexG Thu 01-Jul-21 14:14:01

Nor me, I find tennis incomprehensible and mind blowingly boring. I also can’t stand rugby as it seems they get so hurt. I don’t understand football either but a match with really good teams is fast and exciting. Like the England/Germany match, and we won!

Brocky Thu 01-Jul-21 13:40:25

I always watch Wimbledon, I do not appreciate the grunters and screamers they should be disqualified or fined.

pce612 Thu 01-Jul-21 13:38:22

Tennis on both BBC channels at the same time, it's about time the BBC got a dedicated sorts channel so that those of us who aren't glued to every event can have their normal programming.
Summer of sport??? Not for me, thank goodness for digital channels and the radio.

Foxyferret Thu 01-Jul-21 13:32:48

I think it’s great. It was cancelled last year so I’m pleased it’s back. Not every player grunts or screams, just the odd one or two. It’s 2 weeks and the other 50 weeks, , I have to put up with boring soaps, quizzes, daft reality shows, cookery etc in which I have no interest. Now if you like those that’s fine with me, but as soon as we get wimbledon the complaints start. I hardly watch any tv in the evening, it’s all such rubbish. Not everyone can afford Sky Sports where a lot of the BBC sport has gone so I will go and watch now and enjoy. I hope the olympics go ahead as well.

Loz500 Thu 01-Jul-21 13:19:26

I’m with you hate it! Never watch it! Enough said lol

ElaineI Thu 01-Jul-21 13:15:46

I don't hate it but having tennis on BBC1 and BBC2 and football on ITV at peak viewing times is a bit off. Thankfully catch up and Netflix is available but not to everyone.

HannahLoisLuke Thu 01-Jul-21 13:15:04

I’m bored by tennis too, and I loathe the photos of Andy Murray with that awful aggressive expression and clenched fist glaring at me from the back of my newspaper the last few days.
At least Roger Federer is a gentleman so don’t mind watching him for a few minutes.
I do love the big rugby games, and yes the cricket though not test cricket, that does drag on.
My love in sport is equestrian but we don’t get that any more.
