I was watching Christine Patterson in the Sky News review last night and realised that, whenever she’s on I stop what I ‘m doing and always sit down and watch/listen to her. So I googled her and realised she’d written formany newspapers throughout the years but I hadn’t picked up on her articles. It made me think of journalists throughout the years that I have always made a point of reading. I guess Katharine Whitehorn was the first one I can remember. I sometimes come across some of her articles that I’ve cut out and used as book marks. Richard Baerlain (sp) and Hugh Macillvaney (sp) when they wrote in sports pages and took sports writing to a whole new level. Caitlin Moran whose first book I bought when she was just in her teens after reading her in The Observer. She’s still my journalist of choice and after all these years I still hang onto her every word and she makes me think and laugh in equal measure. And now I’ve discovered Christine and found links to lots of her articles on her Wikipedia page. I shall plough my way through them and also send away for her books. I read a book by Lynn Truss (not to be mistaken with Liz Truss) recently and rather liked her too. Often seems to be women writers who write articles that make me realise I’m not alone in having a rather chaotic existence. Oh, and I nearly forgot the one who wrote as Dulce Domum in, I think, The Guardian. Her name escapes me. My friend used to send me her articles because I didn’t buy that particular paper.
