I just heard yesterdays episode on bbc sounds and i was getting really annoyed.
I know its not real life but the Alice story line is really irritating me.
Fallon interfering, Alice like a spoilt brat. Chris getting all worked up. I hope Alice does leave and Chris says good riddence to her and Fallon keeps her big nose out of other peoples affairs. Get back to Tracy and Gazzer and everybody else. The Alice alcoholic story is dragging on now imho.
Sorry if this upsets anybody.

I take it all back! Apparently The Archers is returning to five days a week in August and still hopes to revert to six days at some point. Great news (as long as the story lines improve)!

That's good to hear and I, for one, am very happy with the story lines.

Well, that's a slow burner if ever there was one! There was a 'tendresse' between Shula & Neil when they were young. I seem to remember an episode in which Neil accepted that he and Shula were not to be, about the time that Susan became pregnant.
And Shula has her moments - in fact I find her one of the most irritating characters as when she stops being virtuous, she causes havoc!

I'm also wondering if the scriptwriters read my posts (not really!) about nurses & teachers being written out of Ambridge. The recent teacher appearance seems short-lived but Ben will be around at least for 3 years, and now we have the re-appearance of Amy (though I am finding that story-line implausible!)

I think its reciprocated so its going to be fun. The one thing I dont understand is how Shula plans to be a priest, she would have to sell the stables, leave Ambridge etc. I wonder if it's the affair with Neil which will end her plans.

Shula is 63 on Monday and most dioceses do not train candidates after the age of 60 for self supporting priests (part time ones ) and after 55 for full time ones, so the whole thing is most odd. I like the idea of Neil / Shula knocking the thing on the head thanks Galaxy. Just seen that Sunday 15 August is the re-start of six episodes; let’s hope the script writers give us better storylines!

I do wonder how Shula has fallen for Neil. Who writes this stuff?
I also remember them in the barn many years ago but that feels like a rather slow burn of a story line!!

merlotgran Fri 06-Aug-21 14:09:57

Neil sounds ancient.

Galaxy Fri 06-Aug-21 14:24:31

Arent they a similar age?

eGJ Fri 06-Aug-21 14:30:16

Yes Galaxy Neil is just 15 months older

Rosycheeks Mon 09-Aug-21 06:36:28

Shula in love with Neil!!!! Thought it would be the other way round. Are they going to have an affair?

NfkDumpling Mon 09-Aug-21 07:53:55

Weren't they nearly an item many, many years ago? I have a vague memory of a bit of a fling which didn't take off due to Neil only being a pigman.

eGJ Mon 09-Aug-21 07:58:15

Yes they did and Shula had a fling with Nigel Pargetter too, who married Elizabeth.(and fell off the roof)

silverlining48 Mon 09-Aug-21 08:00:45

Neil is married! How can Shula who is training for the church , even consider anything like this, ( and isn’t Neil still s pigman?)
I think she and Alastair should get back together,

silverlining48 Mon 09-Aug-21 08:02:17

Roy and Kirsty too...

eGJ Mon 09-Aug-21 08:03:28

Neil seems to be wavering and a bit too devoted and solicitous to Shula and Susan can be very annoying!

eGJ Mon 09-Aug-21 08:04:30

With you on the Roy and Kirsty scenario. His recent foray into online dating was ridiculous

I think The Archers must have some new script writers at the moment. Some storylines are just out of character and some simply farcical. I wish I could stop listening!

They are trying too hard to be woke - we have had a bit of everything: domestic violence, bi-sexuality, gay characters, alcoholism and so it goes on. It sometimes feels a bit in your face. I live in a village and we have a fair cross-section of people, but it all seems to come a bit thick and fast on The Archers, as if the writers are worried they might get criticism.

I too wondered about Shula's age in relation to training to be a vicar. And as for her and Neil.............

I think I must have missed something. She seems more horrified at her feelings than "considering anything like this".

What did I miss

silverlining48 Mon 09-Aug-21 16:17:02

Didn’t she admit to Alaister that she has feelings for Neil, or was I mistaken? Will have to see next time.

Luckygirl Mon 09-Aug-21 16:42:39

She did indeed!

Mouseybrown60 Mon 09-Aug-21 18:05:36

What’s happened to Usha and Kathy?
My favourite character is Kate. She is so funny especially when she has a rant at Jakob!
Anyone else have a favourite character?

Mouseybrown60 Mon 09-Aug-21 18:56:56

Wot? No Archers fans out there?

silverlining48 Mon 09-Aug-21 19:21:05

We havnt gone. We are all listening to TA.
Can Alice be any meaner?

No idea where Kathy and Usha are and Kate is one of my least favourite characters.

NfkDumpling Mon 09-Aug-21 21:10:48

Oh, tonight's was good!

Galaxy Mon 09-Aug-21 21:16:32

Kate is one of my least favourite characters too, but I have a soft spot for Lillian who lots of people find irritating.
