Another new to the thread, i do not remember any racism around Meghan Markle. Everyone was delighted to see that the royal family were going to be so like so many other families, ablend of all ethnicities.

The racism is just a weak argument by those who prefer slogans to thought. Regardless of her ethnicity MM would be just as criticised as she is now because of her behaviour and actions. The racism card is just another card that she can exploit.

I am late to this thread, I smiled, giggled and acknowledged friends and family as I walked down the aisle with my beloved Father.
DH and I laughed our heads off as we walked back as a married couple

This is the perfect film for Grans who like their entertainment unchallenging.

I'm watching some paint dry.

Lollin Sun 25-Jul-21 19:25:42

Now I know where I’ve been going wrong all these years, I smiled and said hello to people as I walked down the aisle. Why did no one warn me. I now understand the phrase ‘blushing bride’ I obviously should have blushed instead of smiling. Sadly not even my own mother warned me to, think on girl and know your place sad

Galaxy ???

Galaxy Sun 25-Jul-21 19:05:22

Probably thinking I could murder a pint right now smile

Aldom Sun 25-Jul-21 18:22:02

In the programme about the Middletons the landlord of the pub in Bucklebury (invited to the wedding by the Middletons) said as Kate came down the aisle she saw him and smiled!!!

Lucca Sun 25-Jul-21 16:02:29

Oh my goodness …is miss Middleton smiling on her way down the aisle?

Aldom Sun 25-Jul-21 12:24:35

Lovely puppy Elliane Hope we can follow his/her progress on 1000 words.

Aldom Sun 25-Jul-21 12:22:27

Sorry Anniebach but you are wrong. I smiled both down and up the aisle. Pure, unadulterated joy.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 25-Jul-21 11:48:23

The tabloids have had it in for Meghan (and now Harry) ever since the wedding. It is partly racist (yes it is!) and partly the fact that Harry, that sad little Prince walking behind his mother’s coffin, has married a strong, beautiful woman who is the opposite to Kate (although don’t forget the Waity Katie stuff the tabloids printed for years) and who speaks her mind. There is an excellent piece in the Onserver this morning about Harry’s book. The book which is being condemned although no one has seen it yet. Why shouldn’t he write a book? Plenty of books have been written about the RF but woe betide if they write their own.

Blossoming Sun 25-Jul-21 11:44:07

Slagging someone off for smiling when they’re about to marry the man they love. This thread really has hit a new low.

Caleo Sun 25-Jul-21 11:43:50

The presenter said the American attitude towards Meghan is that she has been badly treated by the royal family; the English/British attitude is that she failed to act responsibly as a royal duchess should. Sorry, I can't quote so this is my paraphrase of the comment.

It should be remembered that only a subsection of the populations are interested in Meghan and Co however sheds light on the contrast between American and British ethos .

other weddings

mokryna Sun 25-Jul-21 11:35:42

Just compared with others wedding while taking the vows eg Grace Kelly, Catherine as it was such a serious occasion. Of course I am not against happiness.

Ilovecheese Sun 25-Jul-21 11:34:25

What on earth is wrong with smiling when walking down the aisle?

Calendargirl Sun 25-Jul-21 11:09:21

*smiling in church, like the cat that got the cream, as if it was a film set*.

Actually, Meghan's expression is exactly the same as that of Scarlett O'Hara when she wakes up after having spent a tempestuous night with Rhett Butler.

Meghan is the cat who got the cream, and one can only gasp in amazement at how quickly, and how ruthlessly, she has exploited her triumph.

Sadly, for Scarlett, it wasn’t ‘happy ever after’ though.

Will it be for H&M? Doubt it.

Rhett Butler was a much better option.

Galaxy Sun 25-Jul-21 10:04:13

Yes I had two very separate groups of friends at the time and it was so odd to have them all in the same place it made me smile. I was so happy they were all there. I dont think DH was smiling I think he looked terrified smile

Juliet27 Sun 25-Jul-21 10:04:08

Sweet new arrival Ellianne

Alegrias1 Sun 25-Jul-21 10:02:31

I used to think that too Juliet27!

Juliet27 Sun 25-Jul-21 10:01:16

Also my former music teacher playing "Nights in White Satin" on the church organ as I walked up the long aisle
Stupidly I used to think it was Knights in White Satin. Felt that wouldn’t give them much protection! ?

trisher Sun 25-Jul-21 10:01:14

I was watching "Beck".
I smiled when I walked up the aisle-all the people I loved best why wouldn't I?. But we both had to try hard not to laugh at the altar, when we noticed the vicar was still wearing his painting trousers under his surplice! (is that worse)

Galaxy Sun 25-Jul-21 09:57:38

But that doesnt mean no women smiled annie, surely you know that. Before today I would have said that no one would judge a woman for smiling at her wedding, I was obviously wrong, that's the danger of basing facts on our own small area of experience.
