On now, BBC2. Wonderful scenery and Brilliant commentary!

A lovely programme, and no horrible intrusive background 'music' !

I realise now that that was one of the reasons it was so special. I’t very unusual to have a similar programme without background music.

Nobody seemed that keen on Chris when he spoke out about grouse shooting. (The "sport" of kings - William and Kate)

Pammiel if you turn your statement around completely, you might get some sense of the perspective of the naturalist.

Alegrias1 Thu 29-Jul-21 15:36:28

I think you'll find many people were "keen on" Chris when he spoke about driven grouse shooting. confused

Cannot bear the man would never watch anything he is involved with. Viewing for townies! The same goes for country file.

Viewing for townies?

It's an area of the country I don't know so I found it interesting.

I do also watch Escape to the Country, especially if it's in our area.

Countryfile is OK if it is about farming and food production, rural industries, but why shouldn't townies enjoy the countryside even if they are not fit enough to walk miles, climb mountains and are armchair visitors?

Thoroughly enjoyed the programme. I like Chris Packham for his honesty about the condition he lives with and how it may be helping others to understand it and not feel so alone.

Not on here, they weren't.

He seems to have a great relationship with his step-daughter too.

MissAdventure Thu 29-Jul-21 15:45:40

I've always found him rather dishy. blush

His book about his childhood is an honest and excellent account.
I must say I wept through most of it as it mirrored mine in many ways.

‘Fingers In The Sparkle Jar’ is the title.

One of the few books I demanded back from my sister so I could read again.

I loved it, found him very humble and hearing him talk about his dogs was incredibly moving, I felt very moved. I too thought it was refreshing filming himself. Well done Chris a beautiful walk.

Sparklefizz Thu 29-Jul-21 16:13:16

Granfromafar Thank you so much for mentioning this programme. I'd forgotten it was on and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It was so relaxing and beautifully filmed, and felt like I had done that walk myself.

Me too.... and I have always been attracted to men with good brains.

Pippa22 Thu 29-Jul-21 16:36:44

I might like the man a bot more if I could bear to watch this programme. Most of you seemed to enjoy it. Unfortunately he usually annoys me , I find him rather cocky and a bit patronising.

Chardy Thu 29-Jul-21 16:38:17

I've always liked Chris Packham from watching Really Wild Show with my kids when they were little. I've never found him cocky, just sincere.
As he's RSPCA vice-president, I would expect him to find certain traditional practices repugnant.

Greenfinch Thu 29-Jul-21 16:44:52

I wish there was some way he could read all these(mainly)positive comments. I think he would find them very encouraging.

silvercollie Thu 29-Jul-21 17:06:56

Other than this programme about his autism which I found to be very moving, I find listening to Chris Packham talking about farming very irritating as he clearly does not know a thing about the subject! One of his cohorts - George Monbiot - is just as bad.
These two guys need to stick with their chosen focus and leave farmers alone!
Farmers have more than enough to contend with the ridiculous claims that cattle et al are creating climate change. No, good people, climate change is mostly to do with nature.

Gwyneth Thu 29-Jul-21 18:14:13

I like Chris Packam and I thought his programme last night was very moving. I hope his very personal experiences of mental health issues will help young people. As he mentioned in the programme we have a high rate of young men taking their own lives particularly when they feel disconnected from other people. The scenery and commentary were interesting too.

NoddingGanGan Thu 29-Jul-21 18:24:13

I'm with @nanacool on this. What CP knows about the countryside could be written on the point of a pin. Would never watch anything he presented. Odious little man.

If you watched the programme I feel sure you would change your opinion of him. Neither cocky or patronising, but honest and humble.

He was in nostalgic and melancholic mood and at times he seemed quite shy. Beautiful scenery and interesting facts. An enjoyable programme.

DH can’t stand him, mainly for his views on shooting.

He appeared on The Chase once, it was quickly turned off, even though DH likes the programme.

DaisyL Thu 29-Jul-21 18:44:00

Hear! Hear! NoddingGanGan and Nanacool as a farmer's daughter and country person I can't stand him. He'd like to turn the countryside into a nature reserve. He doesn't understand that the countryside has to be managed or it would be over run with nettles and brambles and that farmers are important if we want to eat!

Lillie Thu 29-Jul-21 19:45:14

it was a good programme
BUT we must remember he is 1st and foremost a tv presenter and a wildlife cameraman
of course he comes across well but as others have just said his knowlege about conservation and farming is not extensive and is sometimes incorrect

Bit like that Attenborough fella, eh?
