Look on the net Nannan2. There was one market research company wanted to talk on the phone about tea drinking habits for 2 hours. Pay was £50, not bad considering you could do it at home in pyjamas and they even sent a few new teas to try.

Maybe we could start a gransnet panel.

DH and I were talking about this the other day, we hate most of them. Don't mind if it is a country with which the presenter has connections (India, Joanna Lumley) and quite enjoy Michael Portillo but watch very few of the others.
I'm guessing that they get paid a lot for doing it and they get a free holiday. I particularly dislike the boys on motorbikes ones (other than the Hairy Bikers).

£50 an hour for 'market research'? Where do we sign up??

I totally agree so bored with it they must line up on coastal paths, train stations, canals, motor homes, campsites all saying and showing us what we are missing cos we are in lockdown .loved Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer though so funny

Maybe it was Paul M and his wife because they live together and therefore people outside their bubble would have complicated filming in covid times.

Personally I prefer the group interaction of several bods.

I’m also fed up of all the cookery programs. So if you can’t travel, go cook.
I hardly ever watch ITV or BBC I search the other stations and look for good series or films, been watching Perry Mason lately, makes a change to all the swearing and sex!

I agree that there are too many celebrity travel shows but I don't think they are cheap to make as, no doubt, the celebs demand high fees. Why can't they use some of the less known actors who have been out of work since the pandemic. I'm sure the celebs don't need the money. The same goes for voiceovers on adverts.

Agree with your posts Nanan2 we were asked for our opinions. Like many people on GN I am an avid reader who also enjoys Television, the two things are not mutually exclusive are they.
So kind of the 'celebrities' to entertain us, I hope their salaries compensate them.

Yes we have traveled the world many times.......from watching the telly. The lady with Paul Merton is his wife.

Could do with a good Drama like 'A suitable Boy", Why did they make the last books of Poldark into so few episodes? Though it was always spoiled in our house by DH saying Ohh Demelza from the first time it was adapted. I would even watch "The Jewel in the Crown", again from many years ago. It tempted me to read the book.

My son (22) watched the one about Clarksons farm- he said it was quite good- but he then told me about most of it- while i had to grin & bear it- i love my son, but i can't stand Jeremy Clarkson!??

Yes, I thought we were having an interesting discussion, Nannan2, on what we think about the sudden plethora of travel programmes (following the interminable cookery programmes, house renovation programmes) and now we find ourselves judged!

See, again- Ladylfl- we AREN'T bad tempered people- we were asked by Original Poster what we think- and we are saying what we think! And if we start to watch something which might just be interesting, or 'inspiring' only to find its not- then we've a right to voice our opinion, just as you've just done on us- or even on your books! & why does it seem there's an assumption just because we watch tv we won't read books too! I myself am an avid reader, as I'm sure a lot of other tv watchers are.?

I can recommend the japan travel. Two episodes by Sue Perkins. A very different take on Japan a country which I have visited 3 times. When I last visited I had a flower arranging class and joined a tea ceremony.

Ye!!! - I wrote a long diatribe on this very subject for my column in the local paper, in March this year. The following is a copy of the closing paragraphs.

"What makes an actor or comedian uniquely qualified to wander about the world at someone else’s expense and then pontificate on our screens? Isn’t it about time we less well traveled people got a go? We could bring a fresher perspective, and might even have a more informed or quirky viewpoint.
Available: one mature female, willing to sacrifice her time to critique all the Shows on Broadway, visit Concert Halls the world over, go Wine Tasting in Australia, or investigate the quality of Parisian Patisseries, after which she would probably need to compare the efficacy of various exotic Health Spas in inducing weight loss, - all in the selfless pursuit of information for the masses, of course!"

at least the british summer weather in the paul merton one was true to form and didn't put on airs and graces

You're right Oldwoman70- i think thats why i stuck with the celebs caravanning one for about 5weeks till i got bored- at least thats something we can all try to do- not some rich celeb being paid to stay in expensive accommodation, or with the dearest travel arrangements ever.Or how about more of the 'swap' programmes where they send ordinary folk on the rich folks lifestyle/holiday so they can experience a bit of luxury for a change?- and exchange other ages too- send the grandparents not just 'parents with kids' families that they usually do?! Or sending ordinary different age groups of people holidaying in the many different 'staycation' holiday parks around Britain so we can see without going which are worth our money and which arent- like a test-run for when we want to start venturing out again!???
