So, fellow fans, what do we think of the lineup? A very mixed bunch, personally only know of five, I’m sure we will soon have our favourites. Can’t wait for the glitz and glamour to brighten the long dark nights looming?

Josianne Sat 04-Dec-21 13:29:22

And from what I remember the (possible) spoilers on GN aren't even posters who comment on the actual dancing. It's just weird they come out with the right two names.

Sparklefizz Sat 04-Dec-21 13:20:34

But why do people have to post the spoiler in the first place? It says a lot about the sort of people they are to want to spoil a lighthearted thread.

Mollygo Sat 04-Dec-21 12:36:24

Josianne, just record or watch the program.
No spoiler posts can come in until after the program has finished and they’ve had time to do the dance off.
Guesses, or posters’ views on who should go can be made during the program or even before the program starts but anyone can do that. They may or may not be right. Usually it’s a while after dance off time-say about an hour, before the info is fed to those who want to know.
If you’re not watching it live then just avoid this on GN till tomorrow night.

Josianne Sat 04-Dec-21 09:31:35

Am I right in thinking it is still only the one dance tonight? Just working out my recording times AND when to cut off commenting on here in case of a spoiler post.

Love it Dinahmo grin

Also Dan’s Rumba hip action, which was so subtle it couldn’t be observed by science. Dan’s hips have now been referred to CERN, where the Large Hadron Collider will be analysing them for weakly interacting particles #darkmatter.

Turned on BBC Breakfast this morning and Dan was in the middle of talking about himself and "Strictly" confused He is making me cross.

TillyTrotter Mon 29-Nov-21 09:14:02

That’s a very good analogy Josianne.
It keeps us all talking about the show anyway …. ?

Josianne Mon 29-Nov-21 09:07:05

I think Strictly is actually very clever as a concept. On the one hand you have the show and entertainment side, and on the other the exacting techniques of dance. Sometimes even the judges are divided because Anton often looks for the artistry and whole package, when say Shirley and Craig are judging the number on the actual dancing. How many times do we especially hear Shirley say, "at this stage in the competition" or "at this level"? So viewers have the choice to enjoy the show or to nit pick the dancing, or both.

TillyTrotter Mon 29-Nov-21 08:19:10

I remember John S being kept in by the public as he was the ‘comic turn’ that year.
There wasn’t a celeb. who filled that description this series, but I can’t remember seeing a celeb. being kept in because of their popularity to the quarter final stage. I think that’s what is staggering.
Dan and Nadiya do look lovely together and it’s hard to dislike them even if you’re not one of their voting fans.

Mollygo Sun 28-Nov-21 23:06:15

Dan’s right on Twitter. It’s a tv show. Some of the comments made to him would definitely class as bullying in different circumstances. Would you tell the victim of bullying and harassment to give in to the perpetrators?
As lemsip says it’s a show. If it was just a dance competition, the judges would make the decision, because even if you’re a qualified dancer, unless you’re there, you don’t see everything so can’t really judge the dancing.
We all know what we like-but there’s not really 100% agreement on who’s best, even on GN.
From the BBC point of view, no public vote and the programme would make no money. All the angst about who should go and who should stay probably increases the voting and the revenue.
If anyone has a way to change the voting and still make money I’m sure the BBC would be interested.

There is no comparison between John Sargeant and Dan Walker. I have a memory of John Sargeant in the Paso, dragging his partner (Kristina) across the floor like a sack on potatoes. He did bow out of the contest with dignity making the excuse that he was booked to be a speaker on a cruise ship. Dan has improved hugely since the beginning though I do agree that his standard is never going to reach the heights of Rose or AJ. Yes, he should have gone tonight, but...that's Strictly!

Well said Dan on twitter?

Thank you to everyone who is sending lovely messages & enjoying us having fun on #Strictly and to the few who say…

“Just leave”
“Aren’t you ashamed?”
“You’re a disgrace”
“It’s a fix” (which I don’t get)
or
“Who is voting for them?”

IT’S A TV SHOW!

See you in the 1/4 finals ?

Grandmabatty

I fear so. He must have a formidable following to keep him in thus far.

He keeps mentioning Strictly when he's presenting BBC Breakfast.

Sparklefizz

I remember John Sargeant was kept in by the public votes for quite a while (not for as long as Dan) and he was embarrassed by it. I remember him saying that if he got voted through again, he would leave because he knew it wasn't fair.

And sure enough, he wasn't voted through! Hmmm. Not sure what I make of that ... whether the public thought he wasn't worth wasting a vote on, or ???

I'm sure John Sargeant left voluntarily because he was embarrassed at being voted in every week. He admitted he'd agreed to go on a cruise as a speaker because he didn't think for one minute he would last as long as he did.

Sparklefizz Sun 28-Nov-21 20:55:39

Grandmabatty So you are predicting that Dan still won't go and will be in the semi final? Surely not?

Grandmabatty Sun 28-Nov-21 20:52:43

I don't dislike Dan. I think he accepts the criticism with humour and good grace. He's quite self depreciating too. He has improved enormously. However he really should go next. I would hazard a guess that Rhys and AJ will be in the bottom two next week and Rhys will go. I did predict tonight's bottom two yesterday but not who would go. I couldn't have called it. To be honest, they are all in danger now.

lemsip Sun 28-Nov-21 20:51:58

It's a 'show' if it was a dancing competition it would be decided by the judges and that would be that. The catch to make it a show is that there is PUBLIC voting for who they like! the public are not proffessional dancers! It is entertainment. why can't people 'get ' that.

Charleygirl5 Sun 28-Nov-21 20:51:12

Sparklefizz I have a feeling Dan would not do the decent thing and would stay until the bitter end. He has been fortunate not to be in a dance-off because that really would be him shown the door.

Sorry fourthed.
You beat me to it Sparklefizz.

Charleygirl5 Sun 28-Nov-21 20:40:00

I really think the voting system should change for next year because Dan should have gone weeks ago. It really should not be a popularity contest and he was rather smug tonight I thought.

Tilly was very mature giving that lovely speech and Rhys should not have been in the dance-off.

It beggars belief who may be in the dance-off next week. God forbid that Dan could be in the final.

Josianne Sun 28-Nov-21 20:38:58

Third.
I actually reported it to GNHQ earlier because I guessed that's what was going on.

Sparklefizz Sun 28-Nov-21 20:19:32

I agree TillyTrotter
