Is back on Wednesday. Can’t wait!

Laurence's room was rather lovely when finished, that walk in wardrobe was quite inspired and changed the boxy room well. But - how do people have so few clothes? I'm still working full time so I do have a work and casual wardrobe, but I have 3 double wardrobes of clothes.

The other room - I don't know where they spent the time, there seemed very little in there at the finish, just the rather strong paint everywhere and uncomfortable looking furnishings.

I come away every week thinking Laurence is rather clever at his job, in being able to visualise the finished product.

I've been waiting for the stencils to appear on the show and now they have! I did like LLB's room but think he could have chosen a better colour than brown for the panels.
I thought the other room was dreadful,I hated the colours, splattered paint and what on earth was the Disco Saugage all about?

Sarnia Thu 09-Sept-21 10:32:29

I am waiting for someone to be honest at the 'reveal' and say exactly what they think.

MiniMoon Thu 09-Sept-21 10:24:08

I thought that the blue splashed corner was dreadful. And what was the point of the "disco sausage"?
I quite liked LLBowen's bedroom. At first I thought that brown in a bedroom would be awful, but with the stencilling in the panels I was pleasantly surprised.

And that weird balloon thing! I don’t think the home owners actually liked that room. The pictures were quite nice. I don’t understand how that stencilling turned out so well as the stencil was coming away from the wall as the paint was being applied. I actually had a weird dream/nightmare about Changing Rooms last night!

Another weird one this week. What was the blue splashed corner all about? At least L L-B has some talent! I quite liked his panels and stencilled art.

I don’t know if anyone watched the George Clarke programme the other night but someone did up a house putting full length glass doors/partitions etc all over the place. They had dogs and grandchildren and all I could think of was little children and dogs running straight into them.

Yes better this week except for the skid mark - I think the designers even called it that. And, Laurence, close your legs please! ??

MayBee70 Thu 02-Sept-21 13:44:24

It’s a nightmare painting over anything like that though.

Sarnia Thu 02-Sept-21 13:04:18

I bet the lady lumbered with that wavy stripe will be at B&Q pretty smartish for a tin of paint and some brushes.

avitorl Thu 02-Sept-21 12:42:58

I agree that this week the finished rooms looked better.I thought the panelling effect and wood effect in LLB room were very clever.
The other room was spoilt by the random brown stripe going up one wall and onto the ceiling .

MayBee70 Thu 02-Sept-21 10:42:12

It was described as a skid mark on Facebook. Couldn’t disagree with that. Awful. Glass vases put on the cat climbing shelf shock. Pampas grass, with cats. I think not. Lawrence’s room was really good apart from putting that plant in front of the door. Why?! That wood effect was brilliant. No idea how they got that vinyl stuff on the ceiling, though. I’d hate to be the person removing it and having to repaint it one day.

shysal Thu 02-Sept-21 10:27:36

I thought the results were more acceptable this week, apart from the brown broom smear up the wall and across the ceiling in the beige room. LL-B seems to delight in displaying his leather-clad crotch though!

The people in Best house in Scotland are really funny in a clever way. I hate the forced humour in Changing Rooms. It was the same when they did the last BBC great design challenge and camped it up. I’ve nothing against camp humour having adored Julian Clary since forever but design programmes don’t need to be full of it.

I quite liked both rooms this week. I wish the gay pair weren't so irritating though. I thought the fashion for having half your shirt hanging out had thankfully died away.

avitorl Thu 26-Aug-21 21:07:21

On this weeks Changing Rooms I couldn't believe that tiles were used on one wall of a living room and Lino glued to another in the same room. Fortunately the owner said they loved it but all I could think of was how much damage would be done trying to remove them.Paint you don't like can be easily painted over but no quick way of getting rid of those things. I thought it was hideous .LLBowen's attempt seemed toned down in comparison.

Great. I can get Ch5 iplayer on my iPad. For some reason I can’t get Ch4.

I have been recording and watching 'Room to Improve' on channel 5. It isn't on this week and I am missing it. It is on the player, but I have seen them all. The architect designs some amazing renovations and extensions but is rather annoying and precious about his ideas. The clients always have a maximum budget at the start but miraculously find extra in almost every case. It is an Irish series, and I just love the accent!
CR was just as awful this week, but I can't resist watching!

Haven’t heard of that one. More binge watching for me tonight then !

MayBee70 Thu 26-Aug-21 18:15:58

Whenever anyone paints a ceiling with stripes etc all I can think about is how difficult it will be for someone to just return it to being a white ceiling again.

The old programmes seemed to delight in doing the most awful design changes and I often wondered if it was done deliberately just to see the look on the homeowners' faces. If so, I think it was cruel.

I think the makeovers yesterday were OK. I preferred Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen's - the other was all right but a little "busy" for my taste, and I didn't like the blue dining table.

There was also a garden/house design one by Diarmuid Gavin several years ago. We looked at a house in Hastings that had been on the programme. The garden looked OK on the programme but looked awful in real life, with a sort of raised platform at the end.

I remember one of George's programme @Mapleleaf where a man was almost in tears because after going over budget he couldn't have his much wanted work room, or some such. I think you get these TV people in at your peril.

Personally, I wouldn't let them in through the front gate without setting the cat on then.

Mapleleaf Wed 25-Aug-21 22:27:51

I'm not impressed with George Clarke, either. I watched a couple of those programmes he did some years ago where he designed makeovers for people, knowing their budget, but he usually went well over budget so that some things were left out completely, or, perhaps worse, started but left incomplete for the owners to have to try to sort out if they ever managed to raise the cash to do so. Quite unacceptable behaviour, really, but hey, it's entertainment, isn't it? ?‍♀️. No, I don't rate him at all, either.

Mapleleaf Wed 25-Aug-21 22:16:09

I tuned into tonight's programme and managed to watch less than 3 minutes - it looked dire. The bit I saw they were painting each wall of the room a different, clashing, bright colour and the neighbour was saying "Oh, I'm not sure about those colours". The other neighbours were doing something stupid with spray paint and old jugs and vases - looked terrible. That's where I left it and switched it off.

Ro60 Sat 21-Aug-21 23:27:35

Saw the first episode of CR yesterday - think I've out grown it, but will watch the next to make sure.
Just off to 'Shoty' ? thanks for the Heads Up.
