Do you remember this series that was on TV some years ago? I have just found it on Pluto free TV. I am thoroughly enjoying it!

I certainly do! Preferred the books, tho - gave more rounded characters, I thought, but, yes, a good watch.I loved his description of 'traditionally built women' grin
It's up there with The Detectorists as one of my all-time faves.

We used to play the Dinner Party game - invite 6 guests to your perfect dinner party - Alexander McCall Smith was always on our lists.Lovely man.
Enjoy your viewing!

Oh I do remember ! I dreaded the tv version since the books are so delightful ! It was a great programme, so colourful, the main actress was such a good fit !

I loved the audiobooks, I didn’t realise it had been made into a TV series! I must look out for it.

I did enjoy the TV series but I preferred the books too.

Alexander McCall Smith came here to give a talk and a book signing years ago; a lovely man and a most entertaining evening.

I did enjoy the TV series and agree the main character was well cast but do prefer the books, read every one I think. The same with the Detectorists, nice gentle humour. Wish there were something similar to watch now, most comedy programmes seem to be rude, vulgar or very edgy with lots of swearing. I have never heard of Pluto free TV so think I will go and ask Mr Google.

Having read the books ages ago, I must try and re-read them.

Ghosts on BBC1 is a gentle comedy, with some good one liners.

Alexander McCall Smith has a wonderful gentle sense of humour. I have read many of his books and always feel better afterwards. They are definitely 'feel good' stories.

Toscalily You can get Pluto as an app on your smart TV, or as an app on your tablet. It is free. It's mostly obscure American TV shows, none of which appeal to me, but I did find this one gem. I probably won't watch anything else on it!
