Sad to hear that Don Everly has died - I loved the Everly Brothers and was lucky enough to see them when they toured the UK a couple of times. They started with "pop" type songs sucb as "Bye Bye love" and "Wake up Little Suzie" but their later songs, such as "Let it Be Me" "Crying in the Rain" and "Love Hurts" were beautiful with their unique harmonies. The likes of Paul McCartney and Keith Richards all say they were influenced by The Everly brothers. I was surprised to read that their mother is still alive, she's 101.

One of the last remaining pioneers of rock and roll although they were a mix of country. They were a class act, I saw them in 1959 when I was still at school, at their reunion concert at The Albert Hall in 1983 and again in 1993. Don was always my favourite and my friend Lynda (RIP) loved Phil. Cathy's Clown will always be one of my favourite records, it was a number one hit when I left school in 1960. Phil and Don’s mother is now 102, how sad for her to outlive both her sons but what a legacy!

I had a rummage around in our music collection earlier and have got a fifty-song compilation playing. This is why I’m reluctant to part with all our Cd’s - some of them are unavailable on streaming services.

I loved their music too. So much heartbreak in their voices.

A big part of my early life too, especially Sunday mornings when helping to cook the Sunday lunch accompanied by music.
Aldom, that's so tough. Take care.

Aldom flowers and kindest thoughts

?Aldom . Apparently when a baby I could only be got off to sleep if my parents played the record Cathy’s Clown repeatedly!

SueDonim Sun 22-Aug-21 19:44:05

That’s such sad news, Aldom. I’m very sorry. flowers

Thank you everyone. My other brother, the twin of the brother who died last Sunday has also been diagnosed with cancer. I feel very sad at the moment.

I was sad too, very much part of my youth and later, when they reunited. The Albert Hall reunion concert was brilliant.
RIP Don.

I'm hoping they show the reunion concert as a tribute, it really was brilliant. I had a VHS copy but nothing to play it on these days.

Sincere condolences Aldom

I saw them 5 times over many years and their last concert was as good as the first. Their voices and harmonies never failed. Let it be me is one of my favourites too. I think they had reconciled Calendargirl.

Aldom, so very sorry.

Aldom How awful. So sorry flowers

A part of my teenage years. Great music and great lyrics. Happy days. Sad times now. My younger brother died suddenly last Sunday evening.

So sad! We saw the Everleys twice. The second time was in Aberdeen and as we walked back to our car afterwards we bumped into them leaving the back of the theatre. They were muffled up in many coats, hats, gloves and scarves and clearly not impressed by the Aberdonian weather! grin

How extraordinary that their mother is still alive.

Kate1949 Sun 22-Aug-21 14:39:16

Cathy's Clown was a favourite of mine.

Calendargirl Sun 22-Aug-21 14:35:39

‘Let It Be Me’, what a beautiful song. Their gorgeous voices in such harmony.
I know they had fall outs, I hope they reconciled before Phil’s death.
I watched a great documentary about them a while ago, I hope it will now be repeated in tribute to them both.

Oh that is sad news

They were much played when I was young. Adored them.

silverlining48 Sun 22-Aug-21 12:39:56

I was surprised too that at 84 his mother is still alive. She has outlived both her sons. Oh those soaring harmonies, wonderful.

So sad (to quote one of their songs). They have always been my favourites.
