No, not my taste at all.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 30-Aug-21 15:42:02

Nor mine. Never could understand how anyone found him amusing.

Hellogirl1 Mon 30-Aug-21 15:44:16

As a comedy slapstick performer he did nothing for me at all, although my hubby thought he was fantastic. But in later life, as a serious actor, I was very impressed with him.

Or me, really not my taste at all

Noooooo I think he was a sweet likeable man but not his humour never made me laugh
wasn’t he a huge hit in Albania ?

Hellogirl1 Mon 30-Aug-21 15:56:35

Yes, he was very popular in Albania. At that time, he was the only "outside"entertainer they were allowed to watch.

Thanks Minimoon …..

Well, considering the very rough start Norman Wisdom had when he was young. I think he has done a sterling job lightening the load in dedicating his life's work making us laugh - coz life's tough enough as it is Chuckswink

As a child, I loved Norman Wisdom - and still have a soft spot for him. Perhaps I have an infantile taste in humour because I still find Some Mothers do 'Ave Em funny. But I like more "sophisticated" humour too.

DiscoDancer1975 Mon 30-Aug-21 16:53:22

Absolutely hilarious. I loved him. I always felt Lee Evans was very similar, but spoilt by swearing. Norman was good, clean and funny.

I’ve got this vague memory of him being in Coronation Street. Was I dreaming ??

timetogo2016 Mon 30-Aug-21 16:57:15

I loved him when i was young, but find that sense of humour irritating now.
And i also thought Lee Evans was very similar to him,but as someone posted, without the bad language.

DiscoDancer1975 Mon 30-Aug-21 16:57:44

Ps, I think his ‘ stand up’ was better. Can’t say I really remember him in films.

Grandmabatty Mon 30-Aug-21 17:18:22

I dislike his films as I am not keen on slapstick. He was also considered an unpleasant man to work with and was apparently known for molesting women in his films.

I loved watching Norman Wisdom growing up it was slapstick but funny. They were better than some of the miserable soaps shown on tv now. I watched a documentary about his last years a while ago he suffered strokes. He ended up in a nursing home the staff and residents loved him as he entertained them nearly every day.

Kandinsky Mon 30-Aug-21 18:45:13

Loved him.

I liked George Formby but my brother like Norman Wisdom. I would still watch Dad's Army on a permanent loop and laugh I also still love Porridge.

Dorita Tue 31-Aug-21 16:36:51

I do, not seen any recently though. He was funny.

Skydancer Tue 31-Aug-21 16:48:07

I agree about Porridge and Dad's Army. Old humour - never disgusting or embarrassing but simply fun. I never get tired of Fawlty Towers and loved Father Ted. My Dad loved Morecambe & Wise and the Two Ronnies. Admittedly some of it is a bit sexist for modern times but there's still some good humour in it.

Not a fan or NW but love Father Ted.

Very many years ago when I was at university there was a Charity blind date scheme set up (long before the Cilla version). I think the names were just drawn out of a hat - no computers in those days. Anyway mine took me to the cinema and what was on but a Norman Wisdom film. It was cringeworthy and we left before the end. I never saw that guy again and since that day could never see Norman Wisdom without shuddering, though I'm sure both Norman and the date were perfectly lovely men!
