Last night of the Proms - will you watch?

We do, every year, sadly much toned down but still a landmark in the year.

This year we're at home, instead of the caravan, so I can sing along with gusto (er he always sings out of tune, that gusto)

Will you watch - and sing?

People often don’t realise that it’s only the last bit of the Last Night that is a singalong party. Before that it’s a normal serious concert. I’m watching it. Emma hasn’t started yet. When she does I’ll probably flick back and forth between the two..

If you meant this for me, thanks for your thoughtfulness but I’m well aware of the format, having attended many Proms in the past. smile

No, it wasn’t aimed at you, or at anyone in particular. Just an observation.

I’ve been to Proms, too, and I’ve been in a few as well.

Didn't really enjoy last part this year. Seemed a bit stilted and also very English - more so than before Covid but maybe because people not travelling. Really didn't like the slow paced and spaced out version of national anthem. Made it seem funeral like and the choir looked silly spaced out like that.

I don't watch the last night every year but I did last night. Agree with others the accordionist was a rather striking, good looking lady and while I did enjoy most of the programme I thought in the past they have been a bit better, perhaps that was to be expected really. I intend to watch some of the concerts I have missed this year as they are all on player apparently.

I loved the second half, the first half not so much for the first time ever.

Me too * Hellogirl*.

I also agree with MrsPickle about the audience being close together and hardly any masks. Seems very unwise.

That's lovely, Merlot
I'm glad you got to watch some of it.

Thank you, MissA. I managed the finale. My lovely DSiL handed me a large glass of wine and turned the volume up. A few Kleenex helped as well. We sang for DH who always said it was one of his favourite nights of the year.

Now back to the tennis. ?

Great evening! I'd not seen Stuart Skelton before, wasn't he brilliant and such an entertainer. I love the Finnish conductor exhorting the British audience to sing Land Of Hope And Glory properly.

MrsPickle Sat 11-Sept-21 22:28:20

How daft to have the orchestra and choir spaced out and the audience squished together

nadateturbe Sat 11-Sept-21 22:27:14

Great atmosphere!

MissAdventure Sat 11-Sept-21 22:08:09

Marvellous, isn't it?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 11-Sept-21 22:04:50

Watching with DD, thoroughly enjoying ourselves

I'm sure all that gusto in singing must be bad!
Perhaps they should calm down a bit?

MissAdventure Sat 11-Sept-21 21:54:42

No, now you come to mention it.
And all that air coming out of their instruments!

Lucca Sat 11-Sept-21 21:53:25

Not a lot of masks around….

Lovely! smile
I don't understand anything about music, but wow!

MissAdventure Sat 11-Sept-21 21:39:01

I only looked at the tennis for a second.
The music is too fine to miss.

MiniMoon Sat 11-Sept-21 21:35:38

I'm watching. I only saw/heard bits of the first half as I was making jam. Silly time of day to do it, but the raspberries needed using.
I'm enjoying the second half though. The Australian tenod has a beautiful voice.
Some lovely harmonies here, very atmospheric, with the mist in the valley. Ah, the Kelpies.

MissAdventure Sat 11-Sept-21 21:29:51

I havent looked at it yet, but I'm going to flick over now.
I'm not enjoying this one so much.
Oh, hang on... his voice is exquisite on those high notes.

MayBeMaw Sat 11-Sept-21 21:27:38

Can’t you take the tension of the tennis like me either?

MissAdventure Sat 11-Sept-21 21:24:23

Isn't she beautiful? smile
