Freda and the implants for Aled. Now she has kidnapped the little chap to stop the operation. She comes over as the most impossibly selfish woman and I have no sympathy for her. One storyline that has disappointed.

I think the fans are right about the Adam/Sarah/Lydia storyline. It's going to be a Uni rape/assault/did she consent or not/was it even Adam scenario. I wasn't keen on Adam when he first appeared on the Street but I have warmed to him and hope it is not there as his exit story. I'd rather it turned out to be a 'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned' plot.

I’m still wondering how Lydia’s found a 24 hour childcare facility to look after her child of an evening when she does all her plotting and scheming and furtive texting. Surely Sarah would be asking her who’s looking after little whatever his name is while she’s out with her non-existent fancy man?

Likewise, I wonder what Daniel does with Bertie, while he’s at work or in the pub, or even at home in a clinch with one of his fancy women? Mind, all the children seem to live in their bedrooms apart from being called down for their fish fingers and beans, and sent back to tidy their rooms or do homework. Then they emerge fully grown to cause havoc and have unsuitable relationships. Poor kids!

Toyah is a pain in the doo dahs, sticking her nose into everyone else's business with her 'I'm a counsellor don't you know' attitude.

Maggiemaybe Sat 05-Mar-22 12:22:10

Does anybody else always shout at the telly in a rage when you see angry eyes alighting on a beautiful bunch of flowers and you just know that it’s about to be crammed violently into the nearest bin?

What a wicked waste. angry Pass them on to someone who’ll enjoy them, for pity’s sake!

Grannynannywanny Sat 05-Mar-22 10:04:15

Toya could use her counselling skills to set up a marriage guidance clinic in the street as there a few in need of relationship counselling. Sarah and Adam, Daniel and Daisy, Abbie and Kevin, Craig and Faye,Imran and…oh maybe that would be a bad idea!

Reading my TV guide for tomorrow, Abi ‘uses drugs to block out her pain’.

How many more times?

And when did Nick’s sweet little son (Sam?) get his voice back? I know he was helped by communicating to Hope on her walkie talkie, but he suddenly seems completely back to normal, which is good of course.

We seem to be seeing the same characters week in, week out. Not much sign of Todd, Billy, Paul, Evelyn, Eileen….

I used to love Corrie and now watch Classic Coronation Street on an afternoon. The modern day Corrie is such drivel.

The Classic Coronation Street focused on the characters as much as the story-line. That's what made it so interesting.

The current CS is all about making the characters fit the story-line - some of which are so far-fetched that the characters become mere props to the story.

And they wring every last drop out of these implausible plots to the point it becomes tedious and boring. And there's consequently no character development.

Eastenders is the same.

They need script writers who are more attuned to human behaviour as opposed to those that only seem able to concoct fantastical stories in their heads.

I wonder if this is finally the end of the road for Abbie and Kevin’s relationship. Or if it’s going to be another cycle of Abbie in a downward spiral of drugs and alcohol with Kevin ready to pick up the pieces and start again.

lemsip Sat 05-Mar-22 08:24:57

corrie is like two different shows now. There is the sarah and adam show in there 'posh' flat then you have chesney and gemma struggling with quads . ridiculous now! Mind you I'm still watching, well just about.

Charleygirl5 Sat 05-Mar-22 08:12:57

Devorgilla those were the first thoughts that entered my head.

It is on again tomorrow, Sunday.

Devorgilla Fri 04-Mar-22 21:10:57

Oh dear, Adam. Why didn't you insist that the Police take fingerprints and DNA from alleged damage to the flat?

Yes Maggiemaybe, I also wondered why Joseph couldn’t go and spend some holidays in Portugal with Linda.

But then Chesney, Gemma and Bernie would have complained that the school holidays were a time for them all to be together, doing goodness knows what.

And yes, if Linda offered to buy some of his clothes, shoes and school stuff, why not? Most grannies would help out if need be.

Maggiemaybe Tue 01-Mar-22 10:52:35

In any normal family, Joseph would just have been invited to stay with Granny Linda in Portugal for the Easter/Summer holidays, and she would have offered to throw in a few quid every month to help towards his upkeep in Weatherfield (maybe the money she’s going to save when the housekeeper leaves). But I suppose we’ve got to have the all or nothing dramas to keep us interested.

When Chesney told Joseph he’d ring him at “7 o’clock your time”, it reminded me of when we went to Portugal and spent the first few hours on the wrong time as we’d been told on the plane to change our watches. They’re on the same time as us. smile

Corrie is boiling up to another round of big storylines with no doubt improbable outcomes, following hysterical scenes. The Sarah/Lydia/Adam affair is unlikely to end well, at some point Gary's buried secret will rise from the woods with repercussions all round, Abi/Kevin/Imran/Toyah looks set for a carnival of screaming and retribution, not to mention the flinging of engagement rings, and there is undoubtedly room for some breast beating with Emma/Faye/Craig. A fleet of taxis will be outside the cabin to facilitate tear stained departures with soggy faces in the rear window. Not forgetting Kathy and Brian - that one has some mileage - oh it will be an adrenaline fuelled Spring in Weatherfield.

Grannynannywanny Tue 01-Mar-22 08:43:16

I agree Sarnia. Poor Toyah is going to be heartbroken. I wonder if Lydia’s lies will soon be exposed. She’s covered her tracks well so far in her sinister plot.

Sarnia Tue 01-Mar-22 08:28:54

With Kevin's message that he wants Abi gone before he and Jack return home she is going to go off the rails big time. I would be very concerned if I was Imran. Seeing him and Toyah play happy families, getting engaged and adopting Elsie, will fester in Abi's mind as she loses everything. I have my money on her shouting about what happened.

Calendargirl Mon 28-Feb-22 20:43:16

Oh, poor little Joseph!

He’s such a good little actor, looked really upset. Well, they all did actually.

pinkprincess Mon 28-Feb-22 18:01:15

I used to hear the term "fancy man" a lot when I was young and not old enough to know what it meant.
The part the country I live in fancy man means sleeping with a man you are not married to or living in sin which was another term.

Sarnia Sat 26-Feb-22 15:15:50

Yes Rosina .' No better than she ought to be' makes no sense to me, either. A bit like 'Now,then'. Thinking about that for too long could bring on partial madness.

Maggiemaybe Sat 26-Feb-22 13:18:10

I can’t get my head round “No better than she ought to be” either, Rosina. “All fur coat and no knickers” describes it so much better. grin

I just love that Maggiemaybe - what a perfect description - a 'Fancy man'. My Mother has said that of someone; does it mean I wonder a man you fancy, or a man rather fancy in his behaviour, dress etc? Clearly a lot smarter than the cloth capped Rover's Return clientele. On a similar vein and probably from the same era - no doubt quoted by Ena Sharples in her heyday - what on earth does 'No better than she ought to be' mean?

Aveline Thu 24-Feb-22 15:14:47

Nothing wrong with a fancy man. It's a great concept! In Lydia's case he a 'flight of fancy man'!
More to come in that story plus the Abi/Imran story has more mileage in it.
If I was Joseph I'd be off to Portugal with glamorous Gran like a shot.

Maggiemaybe Thu 24-Feb-22 14:25:53

Oh dear, hark at me. Fancy man! I think I’m turning into Ena Sharples.

Hitches up ample bosom and heads off to see if there’s a milk stout lurking in the pantry.
