Apparently a new series of Eggheads is starting today at 6:30 pm on its new home Channel 5. I used to be a regular viewer but stopped because of the constant repeats and changes in screening time so I will give it a try.

I always enjoyed it, not so keen on Jeremy Vine though, I liked the other guy, Dermot somebody?

The challengers today are Jay's pub quiz. I've been doing his online quiz every week for over 18 months.

I agree about Jeremy Vine, I liked Dermot too. I get fed up of Jeremy pretending he doesn’t know the answer to a question a contestant got wrong so he has to ask The Eggheads. I also get fed up of him saying, ‘Eggheads, you have WON’, at the end of most shows. Despite this I will give it a try but the ad breaks may be annoying.

I`m looking forward to this new series, ad breaks shouldn`t be too much of a problem, it`s only a half hour programme, so there`ll only be one break. Looking forward to seeing how Jay and his team do. Tried to spot him in the London Marathon, but if it showed him it was whilst I was out of the room.
As a matter of interest Pittcity, how did you find last Thursday`s quiz? My family and I all thought it was more difficult than usual, but maybe we`re just thick, lol!

We play as a team over WhatsApp, Hellogirl and each of us have a specialist subject. We managed 47 after much deliberation. I don't think we'd do as well if it wasn't for the long breaks to go back over answers. I can never do modern films, TV, music etc.
I didn't think last week was particularly difficult as the flag and map were easy and there was no distant photo of a place....these are the ones that throw us!

Jay was injured during the Marathon and so was walking a lot of it. I think the TV missed him because he was so far behind. He did finish though.

In direct competition with Strictly. Not a chance!

Pittcity Mon 04-Oct-21 18:58:57

Spoiler alert

Jay is better at writing questions (most of the time!) than answering them.

Watched it and it was like having an old friend back even with the social distancing. Not sure about Beth without her glasses though. Lovely see Judith - she's my favourite egg!

Nannylovesshopping Mon 04-Oct-21 20:15:09

Just a thought, has Jeremy got new teeth?

Hellogirl1 Mon 04-Oct-21 21:01:25

Didn`t there used to be 5 in each team?

Deedaa Mon 04-Oct-21 21:56:20

* Hellogirll* It used to be 5 on a team and they have also cut out one round of questions, presumably because of the commercial break in the middle. Not too bad though, apart from Jeremy still being annoying.

Jane43 Mon 04-Oct-21 22:08:39

I got the impression that the questions were easier than they used to be, I was surprised at the questions the challengers got wrong considering they were quizzers. Judith is my favourite too now that Dave has passed away, he was such a lovely man. I will keep on watching as just one ad break is OK and they give you a question to think about during the break too. At least we didn’t have to listen to Lisa’s singing.

Hellogirl1 Tue 05-Oct-21 00:32:16

I too miss Dave, he was so nice and "normal".
I`m with you, Jane43, regarding Lisa`s singing (caterwauling), I used to dread any chance of Jeremy asking her to sing!

LadyGracie Tue 05-Oct-21 07:26:18

I prefer the old version but I'll give it a chance. I agree Jeremy looks like he's got new teeth, they look too big and he's got a bit of a lisp.

DanniRae Tue 05-Oct-21 10:15:39

I quite liked it but some of the questions were definitely easier because I could answer them!! grin

Sar53 Tue 05-Oct-21 10:52:36

We also thought the questions were easier and were very surprised at some of the wrong answers.

Good to see it back though.

Eggheads has always been my favourite quiz so I was disappointed when the BBC decided not to continue it because not enough "young" people watched. I'm really pleased to see it back on C5 but agree with others that questions seem easier and J Vine is still annoying.

I've noticed that Chris doesn't appear on the Eggheads photos on the opening credits - J Vine hasn't mentioned him leaving and I can't find any info online, does anyone know if he is on the new programme?

BlueSapphire Thu 07-Oct-21 16:35:20

Yes, Chris is still there, he has been on a couple of times this week. My favourite quiz too and have really missed it. My favourite Egghead was always Daphne, so knowledgeable. Think Chris is my favourite now.

MerylStreep Thu 07-Oct-21 16:42:06

I love everything quiz related. But I can’t watch ( or listen) to anything with Jeramy Vine in it.

I think you might be getting confused with the old Eggheads shown on BBC2 weekdays after the lunchtime news? Chris definitely hasn't been on the new Channel 5 version shown at 6.30 weekdays. It will be a shame if he's no longer featured.
