Just watched episode 2. Daughter recommended turning off sub-titles, just having it dubbed, and this worked well, though I still find the Korean style of acting very OTT. DH is enjoying it, I will probably give it one more try but not as enthralled as half the world appears to be!

I was told the opposite Dalia! The dubbing translation is poor and misses a lot of the meaning. Subtitles are a bit better.

Yes, I heard it was better with the subtitles.

My son in law said it’s ‘ Rat Race’ meets ‘ Hunger Games’. He wasn’t impressed, but my daughter and other son in law love it, and have recommended it.

I don’t like violence though...well, not too graphic. We’ll see.

I watched a lot of it from behind my fingers....it's open for a second series I think!

I enjoyed it and then I saw a lot of people saying Alice In Borderland was better, so I watched that as well, it's also on Netflix.I thought Squid Game was the better of the two

I often give programs/films that I'm not sure about a swerve and catch up later. Even years later sometimes.
I think I shall do the same with this.

I remember playing What's the Time Mr Wolf, similar to Red Light/Green Light.

Some schools have said they will not tolerate children rein acting the so called game in the playground.

It is violent and didn't fancy the write up but ( I found it addictive as was very curious,) you don't know till end why this game started..

Namsnanny Mon 11-Oct-21 11:05:54

If it is very violent, I would need a specific reason to watch it.
Something else that redeems it, if you see what I meansmile.
Plot maybe?

Absolutely loved this series and everyone I've recommended it to loved it too. I watch all the subtitled European series so didn't mind the subtitles but I believe if you dub it, it spoils it.

No - 10 minutes was more than enough. I think the young ones like it though.

My Korean friend says the translation is very poor. A lot of the subtlety and humour is lost

Saw a bit via Gogglebox. Not sure I want to watch more. Very graphic!!!

freedomfromthepast Sat 09-Oct-21 03:24:08

My youngest has been watching it. I started on Episode One, then got busy with life and can not keep up right now.

I described it as Korean Hunger Games.

It is graphic.

It is brutal and graphic. I would recommend it though, if you can handle that.

Namsnanny Sat 09-Oct-21 00:37:28

A review said it was very brutal, would you say so?

Shandy57 Sat 09-Oct-21 00:09:58

ha ha CafeAuLait, to the rescue again! Yes I did mean Squid Game, was thinking of squid ink, senior moment. Something about it reminds me of the Parasite film, perhaps the brutality.

CafeAuLait Fri 08-Oct-21 23:31:42

Do you mean Squid Game?

Shandy57 Fri 08-Oct-21 23:21:46

I've just watched episode 1, apparently nine episodes. Interesting concept.
