Early days but not too sure about this new programme. What do others think? Bradley Walsh sounds the same in every programme he is in. Is he acting or being himself? Still, it’s early days.

I loved the original , and expected to be disapointed with the remake .
However we found it to be great and really enjoyed it

Just remembered, did anyone else think that the gammon that Ma put in the oven came out as a goose ?

Yes! I just assumed I'd made a mistake. How on earth could they get that wrong without anyone on the set noticing?!

Ive recorded this, but not watched it yet.But didnt realise it had Bradley Walsh in- i can just about put up with him in game shows, but not sure ill be able to stomach him in a 'real' acting position- as someone said, he always seems to be just himself-so i shall see after first one..I hate them doing remakes (like prisoner cell block H, Randall &Hopkirk etc) they're just never the same. Even the Americans are doing it- only ones which seem better are McGyver and Magnum P.I

again next week as previous was a very hard act to follow and it is at least gentle compared to all the awful violence that is regularly on our screen in fact and fiction.

I watched it and confess to being disappointed. Thought the plots were feeble, very unrealistic and dated. Didn't find the little bit of swearing in character at all. Will try agaiin

??? Yes, I had to look twice.

H1954 Mon 11-Oct-21 11:35:56

Not quite as 'perfick' as the original and a bit too larger than life for me. It was nice to see Barney though.

I thought that at the time and convinced myself I’d imagined it!

The other Darling Buds of May with David Jason was better than last nights viewing. I like Bradley Walsh but the cast in
this one did not have the same feel to things.
I kept comparing it to the old version so in the end stopped watching bring back the old Ma and Pa they were just so cosy together.

Didn't like it. I kept expecting Bradley to say 'the chase is on'.

Did he say "Potatoes"?

(Why does he say that after The Chase has gone off the screen?)

It's one of those programmes which I may watch with one eye, the other on a knitting pattern!

I did see that an older Tristan Farnon was playing the vicar ?

I've only watched until the first ad break, but for what it's worth, I think the difference between the original series and this one is that David Jason, Pam Ferris and Catherine Zeta Jones were the Larkins, the current Pop and Mariette are acting as the Larkins. Joanna Scanlan is convincing though.

Think I'll persevere and watch a bit more . . .

B. Walsh said in an interview before the programme went out that it was still set in 1958 but updated for modern viewers. Is that why there was casual swearing all through it, pre-watershed?

Poppyred Mon 11-Oct-21 10:26:00

Very easy Sunday night viewing, loved it.

Wasn’t keen on the original and even less on the remake. Only stuck with it for 15 minutes and won’t bother again.
Agree about Bradley Walsh - I know he has to earn a living but he’s everywhere these days. I expect him to pop on the screen for life insurance or one of those leg circulation gadgets next!

henetha Mon 11-Oct-21 10:20:25

I so wanted to like this, but sadly found it a bit wooden.
Compared to the wonderful David Jason and Catherine Zeta Jones in the original I just couldn't help finding it all a bit stilted.

FindingNemo15 Mon 11-Oct-21 10:07:01

Not keen on remakes so did not watch it. When I saw that Bradley's son, Barney was in it the word nepotism sprang to mind. There are plenty of other young actors that need work.

TerriBull Mon 11-Oct-21 09:50:35

Yes it was okay, quite a nice programme for early Sunday evening. I did think the actress who played Ma Larkin was a dead ringer for Pam Ferris. I enjoyed the first series, maybe a bit more than this one. I remember the food more than anything, delicious looking made me feel hungry!

Lovetopaint037 Mon 11-Oct-21 09:16:48

Agree we had Londoners instead of the Kentish folk who were so familiar to me in the fifties and sixties as my mother’s family came from a Kent village. I missed the accents I heard my grandmother and her family had and couldn’t believe in these false characters who were as unreal as the plastic pies on the table. Pity as I like Bradley Walsh but I don’t think this has done him any favours. Loved David Jason.

JaneJudge Mon 11-Oct-21 09:08:19

I don't know if I want to watch it to be honest as I loved the Darling buds of May

Mary59nana Mon 11-Oct-21 09:07:23

Loved the original
Did not enjoy so stopped watching after 15mins might be because I'm not a fan of Bradley Walsh I think he is on our telly far to much

Bridie22 Mon 11-Oct-21 09:05:26

preferring the original so far.

Millie22 Mon 11-Oct-21 08:50:55

Didn't like it. I kept expecting Bradley to say 'the chase is on'.

BlueBelle Mon 11-Oct-21 08:48:08

Never keen on the original so didn’t bother with this one
Bradley Walsh gets him and his appendage son everywhere I prefer child / teen actors to strive out in their own and not sit on their parents coat tails I like BRadley Walsh but he is in overkill the other night he was in two sides at the same time !!!

Urmstongran Mon 11-Oct-21 08:48:06

I loved the original version & just didn’t fancy this one at all so didn’t switch the TV on. I started reading ‘Hamnet’’ instead.

I like Bradley Walsh but think he’s a better game show host (being himself) than an actor. I agree with others though, he’s on our screens an awful lot.
