Just watching this.

Another psychological thriller.

Joanne Froggatt playing another abused wife.

Where does she work? I thought she was a veterinary assistant, then I wondered if it was a prison, or a dog rescue centre. Still not sure.

6 episodes, no idea where it’s going.

It was a bit of a daft plot, though I couldnt help cheering when nasty ex got his come uppance.

A nod to strangers on a train?
More like a head banging against the wall!
Or was that just me when I realised I wasted my time on this?
Very implausible attempt at cloning the above story.

Calendargirl Mon 15-Nov-21 07:08:24

The scene at the start when Olivier and Theo were on the train. I thought that was after all the other happenings, and they had planned a meet up to discuss things. Then I realised it was all the beginning, that it was just coincidence they had sat together, hence the upcoming plot.

A nod to ‘Strangers On A Train’?

It sort of came together but im still a bit confused about certain parts,

Juliet27 Sun 14-Nov-21 22:44:47

Thank goodness it’s finished is all I can say

BlueBelle Sun 14-Nov-21 22:39:40

I got it, but found the final episode very far fetched as if!!
Convienent that she had black trousers coat and hat in her small suitcase of clothes that he packed for her I just don’t see how that all happened
The two lads were very good actors very realistic

Zoejory Sun 14-Nov-21 22:12:11

Edgewater was the swimming pool complex where she dropped her baby into the water, expecting him to walk on water.

Cabbie21 Sun 14-Nov-21 22:05:41

Well it is over, but I dont know what to make of it!

Calendargirl Sun 14-Nov-21 22:05:14

Just watched the final episode.

What a load of tosh really.

Still don’t know what ‘Edgewater’ referred to.

Did she not think she would be found when she went away to Wales? What was she living on? Fresh air?

How did she know where Theo was living?

I thought the boys playing her sons were good little actors.

Calmlocket Mon 08-Nov-21 12:32:40

Although married they are seperated so technically an x partner

trisher Mon 08-Nov-21 12:12:37

Re the scene with the policeman, yes you can ask for a police escort to collect your personal stuff from ex partner but they will not get involved in a civil dispute.

Is he an ex-partner? I thought they were still married.

Mary59nana Mon 08-Nov-21 12:06:43

Does anyone else find the sound on this drama poor as I'm upping the volume every time Angela Black speaks ???

I don’t agree with you Joanne Fogett haters she’s one of my favourites actresses I think she’s playing the part of an abused woman well, she’s mentally and physically pounded stripped of her own abilities to judge a situation !! She’s hammered into the ground and in a great big fog of who to believe who not to believe couple that with losing her boys to a man she knows as a monster Oh come on what do you want her to do
I m much to lost in the story to worry about how she found the papers or where she hid them I would have probably put them in my bra I think you are all looking for picky faults and not seeing the story as a whole

On the other hand she's capable of pretending she is mentally ill and has recovered (to please the psychiatrist), researching and finding the man who set her up, pinching papers from her husband's files and concealing them in minutes, oh and asking for the CCTV coverage from a garage. IT's not the acting that's bad it's the character that's unbelievable.
The scene with the policeman was a bit unbelievable as well. I don't believe the police would have sent anyone she would have needed a solicitor or a friend to accompany her. He hasn't after all had any charges brought against him.

She was in Coronation Street years ago,and she hasn`t changed much,a very good actress.

I feel I have wasted so many hours on this that I must get to the end. So many unrealistic situations. I hope it ends well.

I didnt think anything was unrealistic, the husband had messed with her head through his abusive behaviour toward her. Half the time she doesnt know if she is coming or going.

Do you think things will get explained in the final episode?

That job at the dog rescue centre, obviously letting that aggressive dog loose was a parallel with her own life?

The squashed rabbit on the drive?

Why DH has never bought her a dishwasher, even though they live in a big posh house?

How she managed to put everything away in the filing cabinets, dash upstairs and hide those bulky papers somewhere in her jeans in the short time it took her husband to walk away from the front door and the policeman?

Figure out who this mysterious friend is from years back who she thought was having an affair with husband?

I could go on…..

SuzieHi Mon 08-Nov-21 08:59:31

1 quite like Joanne as an actress. She comes over to me as a composed, thoughtful and quiet person in this drama. Personally can’t bear over acting - lots seem to too much screaming and shouting these days. Horrible husband. No idea why she married him? His success /power/ money?
Attempt at drowning baby was awful- was it because she was so mentally screwed up with post natal depression?
Not sure how will it end?
PS Husband declared it stupid from episode 1 & is not watching!

Gingster Mon 08-Nov-21 07:25:03

Yes I’m another still watching. I agree Joanne Frogatte is a poor actress - yet she has been in a lot of dramas. Very wooden !

Calmlocket Mon 08-Nov-21 07:19:38

@ allsorts, she is being mentally and physically abused by her husband, she is on autopilot and going through the motions.

Kandinsky Mon 08-Nov-21 07:16:05

It would be better if a better actress was playing the lead role.
Joanne Froggatt is not convincing at all and has zero personality. I just don’t care enough about her to enjoy the program if that makes sense.
The husband is very believable though.

seacliff Mon 08-Nov-21 07:15:36

I agree Allsorts. Unusual for me to dislike an actor, it's normally judged on the part they're playing.

Allsorts Mon 08-Nov-21 07:02:21

I have stuck with it, but I find Joanne Froggatt extremely annoying. I don’t think she’s a good actress, her face overdoes the angst, she hardly opens her mouth when she speaks and then the words seem to be dragged from her. She makes no attempt at normal conversation even at work. There’s no warmth there. You would be a very mixed up child living with such cold undemonstrative parents, yet I am still watching. Running over the road in a immaculate silk nightie to the furthest house was ridiculous.
