Heard Adele new song today on the radio and again on the lunch time BBC news, which everyone is raving about, but DH and I couldn't understand a word she was saying? We have previously liked her music but don't think I will be rushing to download this one. Also is it "News" that she has released another album? What do others think?

Too samey, again! Poor husband and child. I find it worrying that so many young girls idolise her too.

I find her voice has a very attractive lilt but her personna certainly doesn't do it for me.

I think the LV problem was with getting the staging right, as staff were off with Covid and deliveries were held up. As far as I know there is no suggestion that Adele had Covid herself.

Music awards nowadays are a total farce. I loved Skyfall and Rolling in the Deep but her songs are so miserable I could not listen to a whole album. The lady can sing but I think she has become completely self absorbed. Miraculous recovery from whatever was wrong in Las Vegas. If Id paid the ticket money that some fans did, I don't think I'd be too chuffed with Adele right now.

I understand that the album's about her divorce. How uplifting! Her ex-husband must be thrilled!

Oh, that's already been done, surely!

Tammy Wynette and D-I-V-O-R-CE
Can't get better than that one.

I agree with her sentiments entirely - including that having an award for the best song/singer/musician is sensible. There is no need to have a male prize and a female one, as far as I can see; but there is definitely a need to have sport segregated by sex rather than 'gender', as that is a very different ball game (no pun intended!).

If the decision had been made on the grounds of 'no need to have two sets of prizes' it would have been better than doing it to placate Sam Smith, though. I like his music, and he does seem to be less whiney since he declared himself non-binary, which I hope means that he is happier than before; but I don't believe that policies should be driven by tiny minorities, or on the basis of 'gender'. If there is a need for two categories, they should be male and female, based on sex, and then there is no doubt about who should enter which one.

I also think that we need to keep an eye on the distribution of the prizes, and be prepared to reverse the decision if necessary, in case the majority get handed to men, as is often the way when men and women 'compete' (I'm thinking grammar school places, management roles and so on).

Well done to Adele at the latest woke Music Awards ceremony being brave enough to say she liked being a woman ?

And definitely with this one, the world has gone mad well done Adele ?

I like her music but don’t like what she’s done to her face.

I agree with that statement

Same old, same old.

I like Adele and her music but am getting fed-up with the modern trend of letting all your troubles out for public consumption, Thank God Prince Harry doesn't sing. Yet

People on here who don’t like Adele seem to ignore the fact that she has had the two best selling albums in the UK in the last 10 years, and is a worldwide bestseller. Not many British artists have achieved that in 40 year long careers. You may not like her but millions do, and her new single has gone straight to number 1.

Whether you like Adele or you don't like her, is it really appropriate for the release of her album to be part of the news broadcasts?

This is because it's such a rare event! ???
Rather like an eclipse.
She has done virtually nothing when you compare her to people who have been around for decades and have written hundreds of amazing songs.

I was interested to hear what she wrote about her break up, but couldn’t understand a word! Guess I’d better download the lyrics.
I applaud her ability to lose all that weight, but on the other hand it was great to have a successful singer who was recognised for her talent and not her body.

Typical Adele song. Too much wailing for me, sorry!

lavenderzen have you been a poster in the past? I seem to recognise your style.

Good grin grin

Never liked Adele singing her voice just grates on me .
As for the attention given to her new Album it is safe to say it will be No 1 ...... So its a big media hype and of course big money will be made by all

lavenderzen Sat 16-Oct-21 11:39:43

Oh fgs. Another stupid comment. No one is trying to detract from the awful events that have happened to the MP, we are discussing music. Perhaps you would like to add this sort of comment to the Games threads etc if it makes you feel better.

LuckyFour Sat 16-Oct-21 10:52:34

Adele is definitely not news. Who cares if she's made a new record. I heard it about five times the day before yesterday and found it tedious and boring.
Then we have the killing of a well loved MP. Shocking. This is news but very very sad.

henetha Sat 16-Oct-21 10:31:33

Well I like her. And I love the new song.

Maggiemaybe Sat 16-Oct-21 10:28:05

I love Adele’s voice and she’s an extremely talented songwriter. And I can’t see anything in the lyrics of this song to cause pain to her son or her ex.

On the other hand a friend of DD2’s had recently split up with one of the songwriters of the Kaiser Chiefs’ Every Day I Love You Less And Less. She wasn’t happy to think that she was probably the inspiration for such lines as:
It makes me sick to think of you undressed.

Brutal.

lavenderzen Sat 16-Oct-21 10:06:15

Mind you I wouldn't expect anything other than the remarks above from other posters. No praise for anyone, just ripping into people.

lavenderzen Sat 16-Oct-21 10:04:27

It is a beautiful song about the struggle they all went through during her divorce. The words are very clear on the YouTube download I have and I absolutely love it. The house being cleared, her driving away - what's not to love. Her voice is hauntingly beautiful. I love it.
