Watching Escape to the Country today and wondering what makes people go on this type of show. I'm glad they do as I love watching but I wouldn't do it myself.

Have you ever been on a TV show? What made you go on it and what was the experience like?

Not on t.v., but I was a film extra in the 60’s.

It was in a film called Catch us if you Can. With the Dave. Clark Five.

Claim to fame? No not really.

Being a quiz enthusiast, I've been on The Chase which is yet to air. It was enjoyable but I think you need to be really clever (and lucky) to win anything. I've applied for Who Wants to be a Millionaire and others, WWTBAM rang me back a couple of times but nothing further.

Someone on a comping site (probably the previously mentioned one!), did the audition for WWTBAM and answered the million pound question. She was never asked to come on the show.

When I was at school our choir appeared on Cliff Richards’s Sunday evening show. We had a weekend in London and met lots of people in the BBC canteen. I’ve also been on Songs of Praise twice - firstly with the same school choir and later as an adult.
I’ve also been on a quiz show - Brainteaser - but I didn’t win. I beat the eventual winner in the warm up off air but we were paired in the elimination round as we were well matched! I’d like to try another quiz show now I’m retired but need to get round to applying. I’m waiting for the pandemic to be over!

I've presented Late Call and Morning Call (God slot) on Grampian and Stv and appeared with my Gaelic choir in a series on BBCAlba

I do always wonder if I have been a pair of legs and round tummy on programmes about obesity?
I have been on TISWAS in the audience when my sister was joker of the week. I got knocked over by Chris Tarrant and covered in custard pie from the phantom flan flinger?

Dairmud Gavin filmed an advertisement at my grandchildren's school some years ago. Those children appearing each had to have a separate chaperone/minder so my daughter asked if I would go along to look after one of her two children.

It was made fun for the children, digging, raking, hoeing, planting, and much footage was shot. The ad. was not very long but my charge (5 year old DGD) was caught intently talking to, and dancing with a trowel, which they included in the final cut.

Dairmud Gavin was charming and certainly showed no sign of "never work with children and animals". The food trailer was excellent and the whole day unforgettable.

I have also sung in several Songs of Praise. The most memorable was from the Big Top with all the circus performers for a Christmas special. Enjoyable, but a lot of waiting around, rehearsing, stopping and starting.
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I'm very short, and I have always been blocked from the camera by a larger neighbour. My arm may have appeared on screen once or twice!

We were on the TV in the 1980s in a quiz show called Gambit with Tom O'Connor, who was the most charming and friendly person imaginable. We had a fabulous time, staying in a lovely hotel in Norwich and being wined and dined in the evening with all expenses paid. My husband was on Child's Play with Michael Aspel and Roy Kinnear and we both did a pilot with Michael Barrymore (who was anything but friendly!) but it was never shown. It was all great fun

I was on News at Ten. I'm a childminder & was filmed at home with the children & was asked about safeguarding in response to a serious news article. Was very nervous!
I went on Popmastet during lockdown didn't win but didn't show myself up.
Auditioned for 15 to 1 with my dad, he made it through, I didn't!
Also spoke to Tony Blackburn when requesting a song on his radio show.

Songs of Praise, l was in the school choir.l thought we were getting the day off school in my mind it was 40mins long programme l would be home by lunchtime.l should have realised when they said bring a packed lunch. We got there 8 in the morning left 8 at night.l was throughly sick of the whole experience.
The next one was Antiques road show in the background at Dsrtmouth naval college. That was much nicer.

I appeared on 'The Time, The Place' 4 times with John Stapleton! (Fabulous hotel and generous expenses) I appeared on News at 10 and Channel 4 news when my caravan got thrown by a tornado and I was on Blankety Blank with Lily Savage.

I was on the local Look East Evening news some years ago, much to my mortification. It was a wild and windy winter's day, we were going to the local dump so dressed accordingly. Afterwards we decided to go on down to the beach and and look at the sea. There were several people salvaging huge planks of wood which were all along the beach from a capsized ship. A policeman was there, he confirmed we could take some as salvage as long as we declared it and gave us a form. I helped my husband carry huge planks of very sodden wood up the beach to our trailer. It was only later that evening we were told we were on TV. I had my oldest tattiest clothes on.... typical.!

I read this wearing a now-35 year old T-shirt from the bbc Travel Show, which filmed our young family on a uk beach holiday. It took 2 days out of our week for a 5 minute slot but we did get privileged visits to a swannery and an aquarium. Managed to digitise our vhs recording and it’s quite something to have video of our daughters at ages 3 and 6.

I often wonder if some people aren’t caught out with another partner when the cameras rest on couples in stadiums, audiences etc.?

hollysteers Fri 29-Oct-21 14:08:51

I sang in the television broadcast of the first Hillsborough Memorial Service with the opera company I was in. Standing in the middle of the pitch was quite daunting, one doesn’t realise how vast they are until standing in the middle!
Also in a TV programme on Bill Tidy the cartoonist, a family friend, Didn’t realise I waved my hands about so much when talking until I saw it…

Labadi0747 I LOVE Escape!! Can I ask who the presenter was? I thing they're all great but Jules is my all time favourite. Do please tell more.

Jules is my favourite too, “ anyone fancy a beer” ??
He’s just so friendly and seems to enjoy what he does.

HannahLoisLuke Fri 29-Oct-21 13:51:12

Not me but my daughter and her husband were on holiday in Gaucin, Spain and we’re returning to a little restaurant that they’d visited before and enjoyed. They were met in the street by Gordon Ramsey who was filming Costa del Nightmare or something like that. He asked if they’d mind being part of the programme, being greeted and then inside at their table enjoying dinner. They agreed and said afterwards that the food they had in the restaurant a few days before was better than when Gordon was in charge! He’d stripped the menu down so that basically there was no choice, just roast chicken and salad, which was fine but not up to the standard they expected from a world famous chef.
They enjoyed the experience though.

Sloegin Fri 29-Oct-21 13:45:04

I was on Question Time and my question was chosen- I was terrified. This was just after returning to N.ireland and the politicians on the panel weren't exactly on good terms with each other! It was interesting the reaction I got from friends and family depending on their political point of view. I was also interviewed for Newswatch years ago and that was fun as they came to my home and did the interview in the garden.

Back in the 60’s I was filmed dancing/watching The Beatles in the audience of Ready Steady Go. It was a great experience I was only 14 and it was brilliant. Also about 10 yrs ago my DH and I were on To Buy or Not To Buy. We didn’t buy but that was also great fun. grin

Grayling Fri 29-Oct-21 13:25:27

My daugher is quite a high-level quizzer and my DSIL and I were in the audience for one show. We were given specific seats with a goodie bag of eats and a drink below and picked out by the camera quite often. My phone was red hot after the programme was shown.

Grannycool52 Fri 29-Oct-21 13:15:51

I've been on the telly news a number of times, both interviewed and arriving and leaving a particular place.
Have prepared and presented a few radio programmes and have also done radio interviews.
I was very shy and quiet at school but I suppose I built up my confidence over years of practice.
I was once surprised to be told that I had appeared on Match of the Day, in the front row of the crowd with my son!

chris8888 Fri 29-Oct-21 12:57:57

I am on a comping site and lots of them apply for TV game shows. I am way to shy but I think its a great way to try your hand at winning some money. They often get hotel stays too.

LuckyFour Fri 29-Oct-21 12:50:25

Years ago, my then boyfriend and I went to Jersey on hols. We were given tickets to a tv show on a local tv channel so naturally we went along. There was pop music being played and they said come up and dance, so we did our jive. We didn't realise the camera had been on us. When we came out people recognised us and said 'I've just seen you on the telly', Fame for five minutes.

I was on Eggheads. It was great fun and our team and another stayed at a hotel in Acton (oh the glamour..) the night before. We didn't win our match but 3 out of 4 of us beat our Eggheads. I beat that plump one, Chris, on the sports questions which totally amazed me but I felt very chuffed with myself for that!
A friend of mine WAS on a winning Eggheads team - they won £16,000.
