I am afraid I am left unmoved by this supposed tear-jerker! What a waste of money! What do others think of it?

Well I just see it as another company trying to show as many black ppl has possible so ppl don’t think they are racist. But I do like the M&S one with dawn french found it fun to watch

Calmlocket Sat 06-Nov-21 10:48:53

Its been on a lot the last couple of days, and every time I think what is the point of the ad?

Flakesdayout Sat 06-Nov-21 10:45:53

There are so many other adverts on TV that are so annoying to the point that I will mute the audio whilst they are on. I don't have to do that to this one.

I found it predictable

OMG! How dull and unseasonal. Whatever happened to just showing a nice joyful Christmas advert. So tired of these adverts with 'messages'. For Goodness' sake, it's supposed to be Christmas ! The Boots one is much better.

Whooppee missA you took the words right out of my mouth and put it so much more succinctly that I would have
Total sentimental expensive tosh
I d totally respect John Lewis if they gave the equivalent money to a kids orphanage in Africa

MissAdventure Fri 05-Nov-21 10:58:38

I try to make it a rule never to watch any Christmas ads.
I think they're all a load of old tripe.

VioletSky Fri 05-Nov-21 10:52:09

I have seen the backlash against it and I still don't see what the backlash people are so cross about.

One of the comments said John Lewis had just put off 97% of its customers with their "woke" nonsense.

He should have said alienated lol

But the backlash is very very silly. It's lovely and I enjoyed it

I liked it. I am a bit of a sucker for a Christmas advert.

I thought it was lovely.

Been a big backlash of people saying it is too "woke" and "politucal" which is really odd because as far as I am aware, aliens aren't coming here and taking our jobs.... or our mince pies lol

Well, yes, to an extent. A few years ago I wouldn't have even noticed, but all this "woke" business has made me over-aware when watching adverts now. And not always in a good way. I would rather just enjoy the little film and not have to analyse every crumb (mince pie!) for a message.

Give the money to a charity instead, all totally obscene and unnecessary
(I never even noticed a sweater with a star? lost on me )

Me neither.
I did notice the mince pie though!

It's just a mince pie

Underwhelming. Remake if E T. ?

Agree absolutely- bring back the boxer on the trampoline!

Definitely.

Deedaa Thu 04-Nov-21 17:54:10

Oh well I liked it. I hope it encourages lots of sales because I still get a nice little share of late DH's pension from them! I think my favourite ad was the Waitrose one with the migrating robin.

It won't be an irrelevance when she is as famous as Adele. Keep your uni friend on your Christmas card list for concert tickets!

Oops that was for Lucca but her quote didn't show.

So the Group will spend even more millions. At least I like looking at food.

BTW, there was no reference to food and drink in this video because Waitrose will be doing their own advertisement this year.

Well the family were sitting down to a meal and they young boy took some mince pies!

Lucca Thu 04-Nov-21 17:19:30

Just as a total irrelevance….the song is sung by the granddaughter of a university friend of mine….Lola Young.

I know….so what?

GeorgeKirrin Thu 04-Nov-21 17:04:07

I've just seen the Boots one on You Tube- best so far. Sorry I can't link it.

Have you seen the M&S Christmas ad? Dawn French as the fairy and Percy Pig. Nothing too controversial.

To be fair the boy and girl are both good actors.
I hope I've got this right, the boy was in Call the Midwife and the girl played Stephen Hawking's daughter Lucy in The Theory of Everything.
