I am afraid I am left unmoved by this supposed tear-jerker! What a waste of money! What do others think of it?

I loved it! Good song and imagery. However, I'm so intent on watching the video that I forget they are advertising their Christmas food and drink products!!

That video is showing an old one! Try again.

Well I really liked it but it doesn’t make me want to buy anything from them.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 04-Nov-21 13:30:43

I gave up before it finished, didn’t do anything for me and seemed to go on for ever. I think JL have lost the plot but perhaps I’m a grumpy old bag. Bring back the snowman and snow lady with the stick arms. Hope Aldi have their little carrot again this year. Used to love the M&S ones with Shirley Bassey, real extravaganzas. Does anyone remember the simple ones from the 50s/60s, Tom Thumb cigars and ‘tick-a-tick Timex’?

Smileless2012 Thu 04-Nov-21 13:35:51

Same for me tanith.

Visgir1 Thu 04-Nov-21 13:37:34

Loved it.. And to me JL is my mother ship ( I know)
Anyone see the Sports Direct advert? The most expensive one ever made for Christmas.

Kim19 Thu 04-Nov-21 13:39:42

Don't know how they do it but every year JL have this advert spot cracked. At first people start by knocking it and then they grow to love it. I've seen this time and time again.

Bridie22 Thu 04-Nov-21 13:43:18

Loved it ?

Zoejory Thu 04-Nov-21 13:44:49

Well I have never seen an advert, disliked it then decided to love it, Kim19! .

I think this ad is one of their worst offerings. I don't like it at all. I prefer the banned Home Insurance one.

As for it being a tear jerker? What is it about the ad that makes one's tears jerk?

Calmlocket Thu 04-Nov-21 13:45:43

Not impressed, their xmas ads are much the same with different characters. The money spent on these ads could be put to better use!

Josianne Thu 04-Nov-21 13:46:42

In a word "boring". No animals!

Gwyneth Thu 04-Nov-21 13:50:23

Fed up with all the ‘tear jerking’ stuff these days. I wasn’t even clear what it was advertising only that previous posters had mentioned food.

Anniebach Thu 04-Nov-21 14:04:21

I don’t like it. I fell in love with Edgar 2019

The cost was £8 million. Lots of John Lewis ex employees who were made redundant aren’t happy.

Jaxjacky Thu 04-Nov-21 14:23:13

Sorry those who don’t, I love it ??

Kate1949 Thu 04-Nov-21 14:24:52

I've always found John Lewis too expensive. They closed their 'flagship' store here in Birmingham. It wasn't there for long.

Smileless2012 Thu 04-Nov-21 14:25:09

£8 millionshock how on earth could it have cost £8 million?

kittylester Thu 04-Nov-21 14:42:16

visgirl I have never eard it called that effort but it is also my mother's hip. Actually, there aren't many options nowadays.

Kate1949 Thu 04-Nov-21 14:45:14

I quite liked the ad though!

maddyone Thu 04-Nov-21 14:48:20

Did it cost £8 million? Good grief, what a waste of money.

GreyKnitter Thu 04-Nov-21 14:52:09

The beginning of November for Christmas adverts is far too early! I’m not going to watch it for a couple of weeks at least. I had an email from m and s with theirs attached too but I’m afraid I deleted that.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 04-Nov-21 14:54:24

If I were one of those former employees on the scrap heap I'd be livid. What a waste.

BlueBelle Thu 04-Nov-21 15:06:29

ET phone home …Nonsense really …. I never can understand all the money spend on a single advert when half the world is starving I m sure they have never made me go out to buy anything and I don’t think I ve ever set foot in a John Lewis store so won’t rush off to start because of that ad
Not impressed

Have you seen the M&S Christmas ad? Dawn French as the fairy and Percy Pig. Nothing too controversial.
