If you like Clint Eadtwood and/or his films, please dont go to see this.
Remember him at his best.

Its wrong on every level, from plot, script, camera angles ect.
Notwithstanding, his co star is badly cast for the role. He seems out of his depth and hard to understand.

I'd very much hoped I would enjoy it. But I just felt uncomfortable all the way through.

Thank you for the heads up. I appreciate that as I was intending to see this film.
I adore Clint Eastwood, I remember him well from Rawhide as Rowdy Yates, and have seen most of his films as actor/director.
I think I will give this a miss. It’s hard to see the actors and actresses we grew up with, age and lose their vigour.
I know the feeling - I’m past my sell by date myself !

Thanks Namsnanny, I heard the radio 5 film review which concluded this movie is dire.
I’ve enjoyed Clint Eastwood so I’ll give it a miss

I’m another who once had a huge crush on Rowdy Yates. But I went right off Clint Eastwood years ago when he chickened out of a visit to the U.K. for a premiere or something, because he was too scared to get on a plane after some terrorist incident.

IIRC it was 9/11, in which case I suppose just possibly understandable, but dh and I visited sister in the US around the same time, not long after her husband had died.

For an actor whose career has so often included ‘tough guy’ roles I found it particularly pathetic. Bah! Cowardy Custard!

And I’d also say don’t bother going to see The French Despatch.

Weird. Gave up twenty minutes before the end.
Think you need to be young maybe …..

And I would say don’t bother to go and see Spencer(about Diana) I saw it Saturday and tried to stick with it but it was so Dire I walked out about halfway through, only the second film I’ve ever walked out on.. others might enjoy it but it certainly was not my cup of tea and I was very disappointed

Jeanne and Witzend I think that DH has a crush on Clint full stop. hmm
I find his directorial films sooo depressing (Gran Torino, Million Dollar Baby etc). Even his early directorships (?) are miserable and full of violence.
I can’t see what all the fuss is about. He was a looker though…
Fun fact: Paula Yates (RIP ♥️) had a cat called Rowdy

You’re right Fanny, I enjoyed Million Dollar Baby but it does make you feel like shooting yourself when you’ve just watched it. Not exactly a cheery watch.
He was gorgeous though when younger, especially in his Dirty Harry days.

I used to love Clint Eastwood. One of the films I enjoyed most when he was older in 'In the Line of Fire' with John Malkovich and the lovely Rene Russo.

I'll give this one a miss though, thanks.

Play Misty For Me introduced me to that wonderful Roberta Flack song, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.

MerylStreep Mon 15-Nov-21 18:01:44

The Bridges of Madison County.
How dreadfully sad was that. ?

Clint was too old for the part though (sorry Clint but you were).Seeing as it was his company and I think he directed it, I suppose if he wanted the starring role …..

Didn’t think Meryl Streep was right for her part either.

This is just my opinion, but having read the book, neither of them were the best choice.

Great film though.

Calendargirl - absolutely agree. The book was better.

I’ve just gone down a bit of a rabbit hole…
Ewan (Kirsty’s dad) MacColl wrote The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face about Peggy Seeger, who became his wife.
But he was previously married to Joan Littlewood! ?

Wow, those are reminders from the past! smile

Regarding Clint’s latest film one of the critics said ‘at least he keeps his clothes on”. Ouch.

I liked him in ‘Grand Torino’.

This one is high on my watch again list. DD1 bought me the DVD and we watched it together years ago. Heartbreaking?

Kalu Tue 16-Nov-21 15:45:55

Love that song Fanny although I prefer the Roberta Flack version.

FannyCornforth Tue 16-Nov-21 15:59:56

Yes, it’s gorgeous isn’t it

Namsnanny Wed 17-Nov-21 11:15:01

I agree with you Kalu Roberta Flack has a beautiful voice.

I liked him in ‘Grand Torino’.

Even the wardrobe department got it wrong. Badly fitting jeans, unflattering jackets etc.
