Waitrose Christmas Food Ad

Why oh why, did Waitrose pick the extremely irritating blonde woman who stars? in the current food ad. I am sure that she is the same person who was totally miscast in the Agatha Raisin tv series and completely ruined it. I was really looking forward to watching a new detective series but switched off before the first one ended.

I watched the ad waiting for the punchline where perhaps she gets a dish of Heston’s mince pies complete with cream tipped over her head, possibly by Heston!
I couldn’t believe the central message of this advert - The best thing about Christmas is the food. We like many others had to cope with severely curtailed Christmas plans last year and most of us surely realised the best things about Christmas were the people we were missing the most.
Don’t know the central actor so if this is a stock character for her it’s passed me by I’m afraid. Unless it’s meant to be ironic and super clever, I’m left thinking that Waitrose, much as I love them dearly, have hit a wrong note this year.

The best thing about Christmas is judging the adverts, it seems. ?

Is it Ashley Jensen in the advert? If so, I’m not keen on her accent somehow, don’t know why. I’ve not taken to her in any of her acting roles.

I just think it's sad that the real joy and meaning of Christmas is discarded in favour of encouraging overstuffing stomachs with unnecessarily expensive food.

MagicWand Sat 20-Nov-21 18:23:21

Exactly wildswan16, you have expressed it a lot more succinctly than I did!

Luckygirl3 Sat 20-Nov-21 21:44:12

Yes - I did not like it. Little girl gives present and this is discarded in favour of stuffing her face!

Exactly!! Waitrose has gone down a bit in my estimation, after advocating this message. Food is certainly NOT the best thing about Christmas.

It's not great. Don't know who the woman is.

I said earlier I think it’s Ashley Jensen.

LilyoftheValley is this the actress who plays Agatha Raisin then?
I've read the books but not seen the series and she is not a bit as I imagined Agatha.

OK I'll stick my head over the parapet and say that I really like Ashley Jensen - even as Agatha Raisin, I just view the TV series as a different version of the stories. I thought she was an ideal choice for the Waitrose ad and I think for a lot of people the food is the most important part of Christmas. Most of us try to buy a few special treats for our Christmas dinner,

Yes, you did! But I still don't know who she is.

I now see she was in a TV show that I've not watched.

? Ditto

She seems nice enough, an attractive woman and she's only doing as asked in the advert - acting, in fact.

Presumably she's getting paid but perhaps she should have refused to do this on religious grounds hmm

Now, where's my Advent calendar? The chocolate one?
