I see it's started already the relentless covering of this programme. Why do news programmes feel they have to tell us about this ad nauseum. Second rate so called celebrities exposing their frailties to the world.
OK rant over what do other people think.

Never watch this. Life is too short.

Dickens Wed 24-Nov-21 09:29:47

A hugely popular form of mass entertainment in ancient Rome was watching gladiators slug it out with each other employing weapons with which they were the most skilled in using. The programme is just a more refined version of that.

We watch the contestants, with horrified fascination, because we all share a fear of misadventure... we want to see how they cope - it's possibly a way of facing our own fears and insecurities. Part of the 'human condition'.

And I believe the programmers have tapped into the human psyche and know that they're on a winner. That's why the programme is so popular, and will continue to be a popular form of mass entertainment. Because we are all fascinated and at the same time repelled by horror.

We love it. We're not brain dead. We're quite bright really smile

I did see a bit in the newspapers where the locals in the part of Wales where the castle they use is situated complained and didn't want them there. I suppose they are thinking that it may become a fixture now that the TV bosses realise it is cheaper to stage it in Wales in a draughty castle. I wonder if they are staying in a luxury wing of the castle between shooting scenes.

To be fair, there are people in Wales (see also Cornwall) who complain about ANYONE from outside daring to turn up on 'their' turf! Plus ca change.. etc.

Reminds me of a chap from England who bought holiday home in Wales and complained some spoke Welsh

Similar to the pensioner who booked a hotel in Spain and - if the news report is to be believed - made an official complaint that there were too many Spaniards in it. Apparently, she thought they should "go somewhere else" because they made her feel uncomfortable.

I hope someone challenged the chap from England

Anniebach Wed 24-Nov-21 13:37:19

Dickens he said it on BBC news at the time the Welsh Nationalists were setting light to holiday homes and trying to blow up reservoirs !

More recently a chap from England bought a holiday home in
Mid Wales village then started his own campaign to have the name changed because it was embarrassing for his daughters .

The village is still called Three Cocks.

Redhead
Difficult in understanding how any person can watch this so called entertainment.
Without a doubt rather watch paint dry

Aveline Wed 24-Nov-21 14:09:33

Please do so and accept that not everyone shares your 'taste'.

pixie601 Wed 24-Nov-21 15:25:02

So much hype for total tosh - can't stand Ant and Dec either.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Nov-21 15:41:26

Isn’t it fabulous that we are all different with varying tastes, stops the world from being boring.

There is no need whatsoever to castigate anyone for the choice of tv viewing.

Anniebach Wed 24-Nov-21 16:55:12

True GrannyGravy we are brain dead and sub human !

DeeDe Wed 24-Nov-21 19:02:09

It’s what it is, I don’t mind it, worth hearing the older children's laughing and gets them off their play stations and some extra together time ..
if you don’t like it erm stop moaning and change the channel over wink

Aveline Wed 24-Nov-21 21:48:07

It's not just me who watches it in our house!

Calistemon Wed 24-Nov-21 22:25:32

Is that Cocks or Cochs, Anniebach?

?

Anniebach Thu 25-Nov-21 09:27:39

Calistemon. Three Cocks. It has a Welsh name but it’s not used. I have been to the pub there which is called Three Cocks,
do Google it, it connected to the three railway lines which were
there.

Has a great garden centre if you are ever in the area.

I will, we need some inspirations for places to visit.

Calistemon Thu 25-Nov-21 11:08:32

Oh googled it, it's not far!
Why have I never heard of it.

Oh dear, poor man.

That really sounds disgusting. Fish can be quite dodgy especially if there was any shellfish.

DanniRae Thu 25-Nov-21 11:39:19

Personally I think they go over the top with some of the trials. How Richard was supposed to find the gold stars in all that gunge I can't imagine.
I wish him a speedy recovery.

Smileless2012 Thu 25-Nov-21 11:53:42

Poor manshockit was a ridiculous trial. I agree DanniRae impossible to find anything in that amount of gunge and unfair IMO to have knots so tight it was virtually impossible to undo them.

I'm sure when he was in with the fish guts he said something had gone into his mouth!!

I agree GG, posters castigated for what they watch, the news paper they read, how they voted in the referendum (still going on), how they voted in the last GE, which political party they support etc.

Aveline Thu 25-Nov-21 15:38:20

It's the interactions that I like. I usually fast forward through the trials. The daft challenges are usually fun though.

Zoejory Thu 25-Nov-21 15:43:54

Poor Richard is out. He's burst his Covid bubble so can't return.

Calendargirl Thu 25-Nov-21 15:47:20

Just read that he is ‘gutted’ to be leaving.

No pun intended.
