I've just caught the end of the Panorama programme about the cobalt being mined for Elon Musk's Tesla company. Hundreds of what seemed to be mainly men, knee deep in rubble with hand tools, some going down deep holes into the ground, health and safety seems absent. Same old same old exploitation, the workers earning very little and cannot even put food on the table whilst Elon Musk is very very rich. I can't understand how it still goes on in the 21st century.

Shandy
I’ve been aware of that situation for a long time.
What angers me is: we ( the west) pulled out of Afghanistan where there are trillions of dollars worth of these metals.
We could have mined these minerals for the greater good of Afghanistan.
Madness.?

I watched it, I thought that the nuns were doing an amazing job in bringing it to attention. It was impossible to argue with the points they made about the obligation on Tesla to support the local economy.

I googled Tesla last night, somehow they have managed to avoid negative publicity. Those poor nuns, I expect they often go hungry themselves and give their food to the children.
