The show's producers have had enough notice to put together a show as poor AJ has been out of action all this week.

Tilly has got Covid and others may test positive before the weekend (not wishing it on anyone, obviously!)

They must have ideas in reserve during the pandemic, just as they had Cynthia stand in for Craig when he got Covid. It's such a great shame when this Saturday is not a normal week's Strictly.

I feel so sorry for AJ. Her dancing was fabulous last week and she would be a deserving winner. I saw her being interviewed this morning and she can’t even stand up. If her poor foot is so painful at this stage it’s unlikely she’ll dance and it sounds like it would be unwise to try even if there was an improvement before the weekend.

TillyTrotter Thu 16-Dec-21 10:55:04

At any other time in the competition AJ and Kai would have got a ‘pass’ through to the following week on medical grounds giving them time to get their dances down.
That can’t happen this week with it being the Final.
Or could it? ?
It wouldn’t be much of a final show with only 2 couples -
and other competitors and pro’s missing.

Kim19 Thu 16-Dec-21 10:48:26

That's a rather well thought out scenario, M. Don't think it will happen though.

Mollygo Thu 16-Dec-21 10:37:47

Perhaps they all should choose the two dances they got best marks in and we could watch reruns of those performances and vote on that. In between, we could watch the strictly team-either live or some dances from the series.
Then we could have half a hour to vote and announce the winner. Gives them all an equal chance and everyone can vote for their favourite as usual.

Sparklefizz Thu 16-Dec-21 10:26:06

Poor AJ. Even if her foot is ok to dance on Saturday, she will have missed all the training during the week. I agree Kim I don't think she should even attempt to dance. Such a shame as I knew they would pull out all the stops and I was so looking forward to seeing their dancing.

Kim19 Thu 16-Dec-21 09:40:06

Sadly, I think AJ shouldn't even attempt to dance and she was my anticipated winner.

Pittcity Thu 16-Dec-21 08:46:03

Robert Webb won't be dancing either.

Josianne Thu 16-Dec-21 08:34:56

Oh no, poor AJ. Let's hope it isn't too bad.
And Tilly has covid this week so can't come back for the finale dance.

TillyTrotter Thu 16-Dec-21 08:23:10

Sad to read AJ has strained ligaments in one foot and can’t put her weight on it. She was walking with the aid of crutches yesterday.
What a crushing blow for her and Kai; it is bound to affect her time to practice and her performance in the final if she is passed fit to even take part. ?

TillyTrotter Tue 14-Dec-21 22:05:27

I agree Josianne and I hope Johannes can rein in his enthusiasm on Saturday so that it is John who shines.
He must feel he is the underdog as he was in the bottom two last week so less pressure on him.

Josianne Mon 13-Dec-21 14:52:48

I think what I was trying to say earlier, in terms of the actual dancing, is that it should be far easier for two men to lift each other, and catch each other (oops John!), due to their strength. Even if Nicola as a boxer were strong and could lift her partner, there are still things which got in the way when the two girls came together. Having said that I don't think Katya outshone Nicola as much as Johannes does John with his fantastic dancing, and that for me is an issue with the boys' partnership.

Mollygo Mon 13-Dec-21 13:59:25

Pittcity, the stereotyping and inclusivity is also to do with the ‘must be one of each’ that seems prevalent in adverts and other programs.
I like acknowledgement that colour, sexual differences, disability, even hidden disabilities exist in programs like The Last Leg or Modern Family or with news or weather forecasters where it doesn’t seem that forced.

Another thread for me to avoid then.

There are people who have no idea what their posts imply, honest. No wonder people complain about the older generation.

Gays, northerners, blacks... anyone else you'd like to stereotype or joke about?

I don't think we are stereotyping or joking Alegrias. We are pointing out that everything has to be PC nowadays and inclusivity seems to be forced.

I think as far as the gay coupling goes, it was far more successful with the boys this time round than with the girls last time, though to be fair the girls were stopped in their tracks with covid. I wonder if it will be a permanent thing?

Also, apart from being stopped by Covid, John is, quite simply, a much better dancer than Nicola was. She wouldn’t have gone much further in the competition anyhow, IMHO.

Rhys was never going through to the final. The Beeb now have their dream team.

A gay couple, a black TV presenter and a deaf contestant. Two black TV presenters would have upset the balance.

Cynical moi? ??

I must be cynical too. Thought that for a bit merlotgran.

My unspoken thought for some time- factoring in one (presumably) heterosexual white male dancer of course (Kai) and as you say - a dream team.

Sorry Alegrias my first thing in the morning eyes just looked at merlot's above comment in the box.

^the gay coupling^ confused

Do you mean the same-sex couple?

Katya's not gay.

OK

Charleygirl5 Mon 13-Dec-21 08:40:45

I could not choose last night between John and Rhys. I think unless Rose falls she will win because she has a large following from her TV days and now the deaf community.

I also do not think it should be the public's decision- we obviously miss the odd step that goes wrong. I do not think it should be down to personality although they all are superb dancers. My vote is with AJ.

Pittcity Mon 13-Dec-21 08:39:20

I thought the same as Merlot, but substituted "northern" for "black" wink

I’m in team John - based on the dance off he was technically better IMHO. Rhys great too though, close call.
