For me it's Anything Goes, a recording of the West End show with Robert Lindsay and Felicity Kendal. BBC2, Boxing Day.

My 84 year old aunt is convinced she had seen the 'lost' Morecambe and Wise tape before.

HannahLoisLuke Thu 30-Dec-21 15:27:42

Well blow me down. Having grumbled about the various tired Christmas shows and joked that I wouldn’t be surprised to see Morecambe and Wise featured, guess what? Morcambe and Wise were indeed on amid much fanfare after the discovery of a ‘lost tape’ in Eric Morecambe's loft.
I didn’t watch it.

Quentin Blake - The Drawing of My Life was on BBC2 today (Christmas Day) It was extremely enjoyable.

Again! I love it.

Not Christmas, but just seen an advert for the Downton Abbey film to be shown on New Year’s Day.

I shall look forward to that.

We watch very little on 'normal' tv now, to be honest - we mostly watch stuff from Netflix or Amazon Prime. However, xmas wouldn't be xmas without the only xmas film I'll watch - Die Hard. And I love to sit and watch The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child with my grandson.
Love Actually though? Worst film ever...

Gareth Malone Blackburn singing show was lovely.

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 15:36:56

Sounds of the 70s could be right up my street. smile
What channel will it be on, please?

Daisend1 Thu 23-Dec-21 15:17:34

For me it will be Sounds of the Seventies and shedding tears on hearing ' Days I Knew Then'

Oldbat1 Thu 23-Dec-21 15:14:22

Morcambe and Wise on Christmas Day - it is a “lost” tape found by Morcambe’s son in the loft.

Maggiemaybe Thu 23-Dec-21 14:53:38

The Repair Shop was good as well.

Maggiemaybe Thu 23-Dec-21 14:52:19

Me too! And there’s another one on next week. smile

I haven't even bothered to look through the listings, they are always disappointing. I do most of my watching on catchup services these days, iplayer etc. I see iplayer currently has all episodes of the wondrous Royle Family at the moment, that will keep me going through Christmas.

Call the Midwife I will record, so I can whiz through the bits with Miriam Margolyes, why on earth have they brought her back? Worst character in it. Looking forward to It's a Wonderful Life, The Mezzotint, Around the World in 80 Days, Carols from Kings, The Tourist,Scot Squad,Four Lives,The Railway Children,Anne,Widows,Carry on Screaming, One Foot in the Grave.

The Royal Variety performance was really low rate this year...
what has happened to show business, where has it all gone..
alan carr rubbish.

Shandy57 Mon 20-Dec-21 23:16:37

How nice so many of you like Carols from Kings, my daughter's friend went there.

I'm just looking forward to Call the Midwife.

HurdyGurdy Mon 20-Dec-21 23:01:15

I've just watched the Christmas special of Motherland. Only caught it by accident, as I'd not seen it promoted anywhere. I missed the first 10 minutes or so, but I expect it will be on iplayer sooner or later.

I laughed out loud quite a few times, and will go back and re-watch the first two series.

Looking forward to Call The Midwife, but other than that, nothing really has grabbed my attention yet.

Chardy Mon 20-Dec-21 18:06:56

I caught a bit of a film called In The Heights on Sunday which reminded of West Side Story (from a Lin Manuel Miranda Broadway musical). Lots of singing and dancing, so I recorded it. No doubt it'll come up again on Sky.
I too like Death in Paradise, but if I remember I'll watch it, if I don't remember I won't.

Anyone else remember the anticipation of one-off Christmas specials, eg Stanley Baxter, Morecambe and Wise (obviously) etc? Or the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour Christmas 1967?

Bought the Radio Times hoping to see something that grabs me but nothing In particular, with the exception of It’s a Wonderful LifeI usually listen to Radio 4 or 4 Extra during the day - anything that makes me laugh or think. I love Count Arthur Strong’s radio show 11:30 am Xmas Eve, Dead Ringers, Moominland Winter (Xmas Day), Ed Reardon’s Christmas week. Plus on Sounds 90 minute Mclevy with a Christmas theme, and, of course Fi and Jane’s Fortunately podcast. And this week InOur Time was an analysis of A Christmas Carol. I’ll have to see what’s on Talking Pictures TV but can’t stand all the ads. How many films have been made over the 100+years of cinema? And why do we just get the same old churn of a handful? I’m beginning to know the scripts. I shall watch Monsieur Houlot’s Holiday when I need something gentle and absurd. Happy watching, listening, reading, puzzling or whatever.

Thanks for that. I love, In Our Time but haven’t checked it out recently.

Listened to it last night. Really good. Also realised that You’re Dead to Me has a Christmas special, too.

SachaMac Mon 20-Dec-21 11:15:48

A Boy Called Christmas was on my ‘to watch’ list but it sounds a little drab!! At least you got a to have a nap.

TwiceAsNice Mon 20-Dec-21 11:09:45

Carols from Kings
Call the Midwife and All creatures great and small Christmas specials

Watched A Boy called Christmas on Sky last night. Very bored ad underwhelmed and dozed off! Rest of family seemed to like it

I think the freeview offering is pretty poor, this year. However, I will be watching Call the Midwife and Love Actually.
